This is a total revamp. There is less talent on this team than the previous 4 years the puppet was running the show. This is a 3 year recovery whether you want to believe it or not. Look for progress as the season goes on, that is what will tell the story, not wins and losses. Enjoy the ride for crissakes.

Give us Houston's QB and we'd be exciting and fun immediately.

I dont post here much for a reason, this board is delusional and completely reactionary to what's happening at the moment.

When positive reports were coming out of camp many thought we actually had a shot at beating the #14 team in the country, a team that can likely win the Pac12. We lose and Ash suddenly doesn't know what he's doing and a different hire would've some how done better. I knew all along that there was no way we were going to beat Washington, that team is VERY talented and VERY fast. Like Ash said when asked did the scheme fail on some of those TD passes...his response was no, those guys are simply faster. Before we can compete at that level we have to get just as fast, on both sides of the ball.

It has nothing to do, with a 'learning curve', 'poor coaching', 'being in over his head', or any of the other nonsense I've heard since Saturday. We simply don't have the talent or speed to match up with one of the top teams in the country, anybody that thought we did is delusional.

Yup. It amazes me how this is hard for some to see. Saturday's game wasn't even a blip on my radar screen. It was expected. How could it not have been. Flood recruited teams get blown out all the time, and they got less and less talented every year. This for the first time is an almost entirely Flood recruited team. RU was 26 point underdogs for a reason. If Urban Meyer had coached this RU squad, he'd have lost by 20-30 too.

And some folks would be saying Urban Meyer was a bad hire or on a learning curve, lol

Really? How is that getting it? Respect his opinion, but wishing for a QB who is not here solves nothing. And not sure it would solve anything, if according to some, our OL is porous and our receivers are terrible.

He gets it, you don't.
The issue is the QB not the WRs. Can't catch a ball if it is not thrown to you correctly.
Throwing at the feet of Receivers, throwing to the wrong shoulder, continued fumbling and making bonehead mistakes . That was a major issue last year and again this year.

CL does not have a talented , acrobatic receiver like Carroo to bail him out this year on his wounded duck passes.

No, he does not get "it" and neither do you. We don't have the Houston QB on our staff or anyone who is close to Houston's QB. Got it? It's not getting "it" to wish for a hypothetical QB that does not exist on our team. Not going to disagree on Laviano's mistakes, because the were displayed in plain view, but I am going to go with our coaching staff that he is the best option right now. If you are that butt hurt by the decision of our coaching staff, yell at them. Maybe Oden will be developed during the year, and he gets a shot this year. But it does not appear anyone else behind Laviano is ready to make the step up. Don't get mad at me or other posters.
Geez, Ash coaches one game, and all of the sudden the message board is more qualified than Ash to make the QB choice. Got it.

I have posted this before, it might bear repeating....... I read on the Ohio state board that a good number of their fans considered losing Ash as a bigger loss than Herman...... That does not mean that Ash would be a better head coach, just the perspective of your average fan, as we judge our assistant coaches, believing he was a bigger asset.

We can pray that Ash can do something similar here......

On the other hand special teams are all about coaching. Fans are spot on. That's a real problem from the get go and nobody deserves a pass.

As well as scheme, time and practice. In other words, coaching.
I guess we disagree...the one thing that can overcome all of that is speed, that's why it's so heavily recruited.

One mistake and speed usually wins.

DON'T TELL ME TO CHILLOUT ICEHOLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

anyway, this happens every single year without fail, btw. The same people on this board always freak out after every lost and ask for everyone to be fired, every single time. since before this site existed. It is practically a tradition at this point.

The fact that posters are stating that Ash is "close to losing me" is out of control. We've played exactly one game across the country against a solid/ranked Husky team. While I thought it be a more competitive game, everyone should realize Ash is in for a complete rebuild. I was a huge fan of GS (our most successful modern day coach ) , thank god most of you weren't around early on or you would have run him out of town after the first 61-0 beat down by Miami (our second game into the season in 2001) or maybe it would have been the lost to D-1AA Uconn during our 4th game that year.

Stay the course folks, Ash is building this thing for the long haul , on a solid foundation.:sunglasses:

Listen, this man has it right, please coach, get your head out
of your Ash, put in someone that can throw, then build around
that, don't be stubborn like Flood and stick with a system you
don't have the personnel for. Hey Head coach I know you are a
defense man but don't let your OC cost you your job, it is obvious
he can not make the decisions he has to for now. So make it
for him, because you are taking the heat, and if you don't get him thinking right you lose your job.

One of this boards' biggest problems:

They actually think what happens in the Spring Game and Summer Camp translates into "W" on the field. Every freakin' year it happens here. Maybe people should pay more attention to the games during the season, and what type of recruits most of these kids in the program were (see: lack of, if any, P5 offers for many of Flood's recruits...), instead of "reports from camp." SMH.

There were posters, as recently as Friday night, bashing others and stating such things as "There's a hell of a lot more talent in this program than you know." Well, NO, there isn't!

What has that have to do with playing a QB that has
proved he can't play at this level, to force a system this
team isn't prepared for.

Learning a new offense isn't easy when moving from the [pro set to a power spread.
Designing a spread offense for players recruited for a pro set is going to have more than a few bumps at first.

I want it now, but realize it probably will come later :pimp:

To think that we had the speed and talent to beat the #14 team in the country was crazy talk from day 1. I agree though, this board built itself up to unrealistic expectations, then blames Ash for not meeting them.

After they have coached one game together. Haven't had time to even establish a pattern yet.

The talent is not there. It will take at least three years of great recruiting to make a difference.

It should start to turn around by 2018 or 2019.

Give Ash a chance to build a team.

2006 seems like a lifetime ago"did it really happen"lol.Watching ESPN and seeing the block R scroll across the screen as a Top 25 team used to be amazing to see, and I'd put that up there with getting the invite to the B1G. I never thought the program would fall to this level again, but it has.Greg pulled this program out of it, and made it relevant, and Ash might be able to do the same, since the administration finally seems to get it, and invest more than in the past. Fingers crossed.

How long do we have to wait before we give ranked teams a scare, like Appalachian State and UMASS did?
Would love to see it happen this year but I think having a QB who can run this offense would go a long way in that respect.

You are one of the few on here that get it.

Sorry but you don't get it. Football is a team sport. Success is not measured by the talent of one player. It is a result of 11 players all doing their assignments well in total coordination with each other both offensively and defensively.

Nice cliché that's true in principal, books and speeches.
Fact remains you go nowhere without a QB with superior intangibles, that includes all the stuff you can't teach.
Exception to rule, Alabama? Even Ohio State was QB driven 2 years ago, even with all their weapons.

Not to say a talented QB would not have a huge impact but we are not Ohio State. Even teams with very good QBs have 10 other talented players blocking and doing their assignments well. We will need a QB like Houston's for the type of offense Ash is implementing.

I agree Scarlet!
Here's the thing, give us JT Barrett and magically our blocking would improve and so would our offense.:D

I think we'll give someone a scare. If we were able to give Michigan State a scare last year I don't see why we can't give at least one ranked team a scare or upset this year.
