Chill out boys and girls

I think we'll give someone a scare. If we were able to give Michigan State a scare last year I don't see why we can't give at least one ranked team a scare or upset this year.
Without Carroo? We better get something from Howard and Bailey to off set Grant for that to happen.

Sorry but you don't get it. Football is a team sport. Success is not measured by the talent of one player. It is a result of 11 players all doing their assignments well in total coordination with each other both offensively and defensively.
Let me explain: if I was a DC of an opponent it would be easy to game plan against this O. I would match up my best/fastest DB against grant (you will see Peppers one on one vs Grant all game in the Michigan game).

I would play 4 DLs and have my LBs key on the RB to stop the run knowing that you do not need to account for the QB to run. I would also play press coverage knowing that the QB doesn't make quick reads and doesn't throw down field. The DBs don't need to worry about getting beat deep.

Now, if RU had a QB that can run, OR make quick reads OR throw down field the D would have to account for that. Just finding a QB that can run causes the LBs to keep an eye on him. Now the play fakes in the back field can work, and if the DE or LB go after the QB, running lanes open for the RB.

I understand what you are saying that this is a team game, but the QB is the most important position. As a RU fan I am sure you remember many games in the past 20 years where the RU D could never stop the spread because they couldn't keep up with the QB. They could stop the RB and pass plays and the QB would break off long runs. ( I.e. West Virginia. ).

I also believe that this team does have some good players. Many people on here say this team has no talent and I disagree with that. There is talent on this team and hopefully Martin is ready to play and Hicks get more time. The smaller/faster WRs need more playing time (Harris and Bailey). If one of the 6 QB on the roster can run I would like to see them in the game to add another dimension to the O instead of using grant in the Wild Knight. Grant isn't a threat to throw the ball. The QB position needs someone that can throw and run to keep the D offbalance.

So the answer is we already have given a ranked team a scare.

Okay........well...........thanks for your explanation. Very well thought out. But since the team is adjusting to the new spread offense I'm not sure how well they would do even with a running QB. Don't get me wrong.........I think we need that (a running QB) right now but I still say10 other guys need to execute well. I'm not sure how well or how fast that can happen given this team has played under the pro set formation. We do have talented players but they are going thru an adjustment concerning overall execution. Add on to that we still don't have the talent level (despite being good) compared to a number of our competitors.

Having said all that I'm still hopeful we can see improvement over the course of the season.

No. Zap gets it, and most of you guys don't.

He says to use Ward, because Ward fits the offense we run. It is true that we don't have Ward, but if we don't have the QB to run this offense, THEN DON'T RUN THIS OFFENSE. There are plenty of offenses that don't require a mobile qb. Or ones that can hide some of our deficiencies and utilize our strengths. But right now Ash is trying to fit square pegs in round holes.

Edit: one other thing, if we insist to use this offense, then use the most athletic qbs on the roster. We have them. That will fit this offense.

Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner. This post is so spot on, it couldn't have been more accurate if cut with a frickin' laser.
