Chris Ash: Spring game attendance will help Rutgers recruit

disagree...one maybe BTN dictated it if RU wanted airtime...secondly, I think Rutgers Day actually conflicts with the game...most people arent on Busch for that day so if the game is during the day its an issue and if the game is at night, then people who have been at Rutgers Day all day arent schlepping to the spring game after being out all day. Plus you have Ag Field Day and NJ Folk Festival which also pulls people away.
Agree with this. We're usually on Cook campus all day catching up with friends and buying plants by time Spring Game is ready to start I'm beat from walking all day and playing tug of war with two Great Pryenees dogs. We haven't made a Spring game in years, this year we will be attending and have friends who we usually see on Cook attending for a nice tailgate.

Everyone on this forum should be there, no excuses. This game is just as important as regular season games.

Umm no it isn't. A scrimmage just before the opening is 100x more important. And that is 1000x less than a real game.

No it isnt! As much as many of you want to make a difference or be "involved " we are not the big cogs in the recruiting wheel. It doesn't work that way. Especially in NJ.

Ash seems to think it's important so I'll take is word.

I'm guessing your not going then.

I am not going. Working. But if you are saying if I take the day off Rutgers than will get all the players in NJ to commit to Rutgers I'm all in. I'll be there with every Letterwinner on the sideline.
Again it doesn't work that way.
And again it Coach Ash job to recruit, not you

Ahhhh ok so you're just making excuses since you're not going.

Very important to get a good crowd and provide a good environment for the recruits. If you don't think so you don't follow recruiting very closely.

Last year many out of state alumni made the spring game because it was scheduled the weekend of the Alumni Reunion. For some reason this year , the spring game is one week before the Reunion. As a result , many out of state alumni are going to skip the spring game rather than drive four or five hours to NJ two weekends in a row.

Poor planning by the administrators.

No I'm not making any excuse. Its a scrimmage not a game. Ash made a mistake by calling it important.
Please tell me a team other than Rutgers that gets more than Rutgers at a spring game that hasn't won anything. Rutgers fans do a great job getting 10k, sometimes 20k plus to a game that means nothing.
Would you lose a days pay to go to the game?

I didnt realize there was a significant amount of out of state alums making it to the spring game most years. I guess this is why these TV contracts are such a big deal, it allows for so many more eyes to see the product.

A big university has to constantly plan events and carefully coordinate their schedule. Sometimes it falls perfect and sometimes they just can't make it work. I think in this case, the University considers alumni weekend and the spring game two huge events that deserve their own time attention. It really would be better off being a week long event kicked off or capped by the spring game.

Showing up with 30 mid to late twenties post grads. Atleast the young part of our fan base cares. We will be more than willing to take the torch from the oldies and put the program over the top when the time comes.
