Coaching search: Source within coaching circles and RU

B1GNJHoops ... Not promoting any of these guys over Sendek, just answering poster needmorecowbell's requests for names that match GreenRiceFIG's candidate credentials. Will Wade might not be completely out of the question. I've been told he makes $1M per year. What is Rutgers spending range?
Wade will wait for a better job. It won't be long before he gets one.

My guess is Clemson. Believe he played there or was an assistant.

To me, VCU is a perfectly fine job and not mid-major but others might disagree.

I would agree that those candidates are back up options to Sendek.

Changed my criteria

1. Can't be a felon
2. Can get a team to box out on foul line
3. Not a Trump supporter
4. Can defend an inbound double screen play

that's okay Politi is likely to have one soon, he must be just waiting on the timing and it will be spot on whatever he writes

Carino is a reporter, he won't be writing an opinion piece on EJ, he simply asked the question on his future which has to be asked, Edelson or Seargant alread wrote the EJ must go store a couple weeks ago for Gannet/APP. Politi will do the same for NJ and the ledger, although I think he already wrote the EJ is hopeless story

Joe Dooley's last 2 years at East Carolina were a combined 23-31. He took over at Florida Gulf Coast for Andy Enfield and is trending down, once Enfield's players have gone on.
No thanks.

Masiello will take this program to the top. I've said it for years, I went to Manhattan undergrad so I've seen him up close. The program was a disaster when Rohrssen left and Masiello has been a grand slam. Don't worry about the team's record this year, there are about 6 scholarship players on the roster due to injury and personal issues. Bottom line, I have said and will maintain that Masiello would out work and out coach anyone you've seen here.

meh... Masiello lied on his resume. I don't want another one of doze.

How many years ago was that? And it hasn't been an issue since. He's a great guy and runs a clean program, but that's fine. Pick another old coach and let another school benefit from Masiello.

5. Doesn't hold for 1 shot with 45 seconds left in the half
what was going on there?

initially they could have went two for one (i think, not sure of time) but the standing around with 45 on clock was a head scratcher

i must say the two for one often becomes a mess because kids in such a rush to get the first shot up, it's often a bad one

Some fans never learn that Rutgers is a very difficult place to coach at with the lack of institutional support and the media just waiting to pounce on the latest scandal.

i agree...but the instructions Sanders was given was 10 seconds. Why on earth would we stall through a 2 for 1? Run the offense and if you get a good look early that is fine.

Not going for a 2 for 1 is totally fine in that spot, but taking the air out in that spot is just down right dumb. Watching the game it was a quick reminder of who eddie is. I was fooled by the efficiency on the offensive end up to that point.

going 6-24 doesn't help either

Anyone hear of Chris Ash a few months ago?

The interviews would be SO important in determining if I'd hire Sendek.

Arizona State and NC State jobs were a piece of cake compared to this one. It is going to take a real special person with a tank that says FULL.

Anyone who has an ego that thinks they show up and do what worked before will be sadly mistaken.

Sendek may be the best option. his last 2 jobs didn't think he was worth keeping.

I can understand once, but twice. Why?
NC State and ASU wanted a limo ride. All we want to do is stop hitch hiking. I'll settle for a cab for now (and a very nice one). It beats what we are doing now.

FYI-Masiello agreed to an extension with Manhattan. He has been feuding with new AD for awhile and he was allowed to coach his last year on his contract without an extension which many felt was a sign he was being pushed out.

But evidently they have come to terms.

Doesn’t mean he can’t leave but my guess unless something blows him away he is going to stay at Manhattan for a few more years.

well if RU offered he would leave easily but he isn't in my top 5 at all and probably not Hobbs either

One factor that gives me confidence in RU's next selection of a HC is that Hobbs has direct and current experience in this area in the Big East. I believe that he has the ability to evaluate and select candidates that have a good chance of being successful at RU.

Hobbs' greater challenge is the fund raising side of the equation, although this is an area of strength with him as well.

Sight unseen I believe that Hobbs is likely to get us the best possible candidate as our next HC, given the situation we are in. For example I believe that Hobbs would never have hired Eddie three years ago. RU fans got sold a bill of goods on that one with the popular opinion at the time being that recruits would be impressed with Eddie because he was Kobe Bryant's coach in the NBA. In retrospect, what were we thinking ?

After Mike Rice and the embarrassment that came with Jordan not having graduated, they can't go get a guy like Massiello with a questionable temperament and who also misled a new job about having graduated. He can coach, I think, but is a poor fit for Rutgers, which needs a grownup to step in and take control. That isn't Massiello.

Don't think so.

don't think he would leave or don't think he would be in the top 5....look he isn't exactly being offered any other jobs....he would easily jump..he jumped for before to a horrible job at USF a job worse than RU if that's possible
