Is it OK for a Div-1 lacrosse team to scrimmage an MLL team? Heard from a friend who is an Ohio State fan that Ohio State has done it in the past. Is it possible that MLL teams are not considered professionals?

Yes. One of the best things about lacrosse is the ability of different teams to play other levels. Back in the day it was club teams and even national and MLL pro teams now. The MLL is going to go away imo. The PLL has grabbed almost all the best players.

I don’t see how the PLL model is sustainable. It’s basically a traveling circus/festival format. The MLL teams are embedded in their communities. They are starting to field club/academy teams (like soccer). The Ohio Machine just opened a lacrosse specific stadium (first in the country).

Best case for lacrosse is they merge and make the game stronger at the pro level - imho.

Way back in the day it was clubs. In college played in a spring beak tournament co-sponsored by UNC and Duke where the Maryland Lacrosse Club was one of the participants. Mt Washington LC used to scrimmage teams in the Baltimore area regularly. While playing club in New England we got to play in field houses before the snow melted by scrimmaging Williams, Amherst and Dartmouth.

We scrimmaged a number of club teams when I was in school. We even played the Iroquit national team. During the season.

My angle on the post was the separation of amateurs and professionals. But on second thought, one of the Boston area college baseball teams play the Red Sox in Spring training every year in Fort Myers.

Agree.

It's all about the players and funding. The PLL will only be doing this traveling thing for at most, 3 seasons. They have very solid funding if they don't have every best player, they are soon to have them. The players are getting taken care of much better in the PLL. The MLL isn't sustainable without the best players. Already the PLL has crossed that hurdle. Joey Tsai just invested in the league. He could fund it himself if he wanted to until it takes off, but there was solid funding around it before he got involved. The PLL, already, is in a much better position than the MLL. I wouldn't be surprised if the PLL acquires the MLL in short order, or just kills it.

For my community’s sake I hope lax stays in Columbus. The machine invest locally in local programs and are the coordinator for a multi-community youth league with several hundred rec. players. Their foundation supports local programs etc.

What’s interesting is outside of Rabil and turn Thompson brothers most mainstream lacrosse fans don’t know many players. They probably know more college guys b/c of the exposure college lax gets vs the MLL - which I know is part of the problem.
