Put a guy in an organization that supports the program with donors that support the program, and he can thrive.
Contrast with the clown show that was Rutgers athletics when he was named head coach here with little support from anyone at Rutgers.

"Sark and offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood did a great job addressing this need in the 2022 class over the last few months."
"the props that Campbell gave to the likes of Flood and the rest of the Texas coaching staff throughout his recruitment."

Here’s more on what Campbell had to say on this matter.

“Coach Flood did an awesome job building a relationship with him outside of football and that goes for a lot of other coaches on the Texas staff, too.”

Some guys are good football coaches but not head coach material. Ash did a pretty good job with Texas D before Herman got canned. Rutgers is a really hard job.

Does $50K buy a car these days? It could be a pay cut for recruits at lots of the schools in the southern tier.

Solid Game day coach here as well. HC in college is like GM in the pros. So much work to do that does not involve coaching.

It's even worse when you have a bunch of scandals. I liked Flood and was happy when he was hired. But the fact is that he screwed up and got fired because of it. He's landed on his feet and good luck to him. He is a players coach but maybe at that time, he became a little too much of a players coach.

Kind of the perfect complement to a hardass like Schiano.

Texas A&M is the number 1 rated recruiting class and Texas is number 5 and all the offensive linemen recruits from both teams are from Texas. Not that hard to recruit Texas recruits to either team But I’ll give Flood some credit.

As others have said, this was not an HC job. So saying his success at UT vs. RU was just a function of the RU Admin, and ignoring the fact that it's a totally different job, isn't right.

Maybe he just wasn’t ready to be a HC. Especially, with little administrative support in the B1G. It takes a very special coach to get thrown into that fire as a first timer.

You must be willing to give up your entire life in season. And greatly disrupt your life the rest of the time.

Flood also doesn’t need to help kids with grades at UT. It’s understood what grades the players should get.

He wasn’t ready. Didn’t know what it took and I think he bought into the celebrity persona. Maybe he learned. Maybe he didn’t, but I bet he gets another opportunity if he wants it
Flood has worked his way back to a point where he may get a P5 HC job. All some people will see that don’t live in NJ will be the only Rutgers HC with a winning record. BE Co Champs his first season, 8 wins his first year in B1G, Bama OL coach, Texas OL/OC
That is actually a hell of a resume…
He wasn’t ready here- and Had less than no support.

O M G.. yeah.. all we had to do was make him OL Coach again and then give him $50K to offer every OL recruit in an NIL deal (and probably more to some of them).

LOL

meanwhile, in Princeton, Texas....

maybe it wasn't him and is more on RU in our culture.

Speaking of, something the RU Athletics department needs to work on, improve the culture of RU inside the program and outside (fanbase). Schiano is actually perfect for something like this.

We had more exciting moments under Flood than we had under Ash or Schiano 2.0 so far. Think about what our home stadium was like for games like Arkansas 2013, Michigan 2014, etc. Been a long time since we've seen the stadium like that.

Man could that guy edit a term paper.

Is there a yearly award for that?

He also could get the most out of the O-Line.

Congratulations to him. But sorry, he created a scandal that was incomprehensibly stupid that has taken years to overcome. That’s not due to Rutgers lack of support. That’s poor judgment.
