Would be biggest RU screw ever if Rutgers finally breaks drought and the Tourny is cancelled by a virus.

Highly doubt it would be cancelled outright, could see it postponed a couple months though

NCAA cancelled? The Apocalypse is here.

What was unthinkable is now becoming possible.

The tournament will be cancelled only if Duke and North Carolina don’t get to pick the sites and seeding that best suit them.

If things get bad, the NCAA may do what Switzerland is doing by playing in empty arenas as the country has “forbode any gatherings of peoples with more than 1000 attendees.“

it's not getting postponed either. What are you going to do with all the players that are heading to the NBA and need to go through predraft workouts and what not?

4:46 pm: NCAA faces pressure to hold March Madness without fans
The National College Players Association has called on the NCAA to consider holding the March Madness tournament without an audience present to protect athletes and prevent the spread of coronavirus. The association also called on the NCAA to cancel events such as meet-and-greets as well as press events, which put athletes in contact with crowds. -- Kimball

Yep.. have it without crowds. Family members only... everyone screened for the virus.

Have it in very few locations.. though TV coverage may require a larger number than the most efficient possible.

The first four cane be in one location... the same as the next site.

There are 16 games per day for 2 days. One site can host 4 games, iirc. 2 in the day, 2 at night. And then 4 more the next day.

So you need 4 courts. It could be possible to build (in an existing structure.. unused blimp hangar on some base?) a single facility with 4 courts. Limited seating around each court for family and limited press, space for cameras.

This one site could be used for the whole thing or just the first four and the first weekend. The regionals would need 2 courts. The final 4 can still be at one location.

But the key would be to limit travel and limit crowds and test everyone.

while all those things are theoretically possible, they are not possible for a tournament that starts in 16 days

no team has travel plans yet... the NCAA probably has shipped their floors to various locations, but they could be shipped to another place in 16 days.

but I get your point.. perhaps only if a specific location city has CoVid-19 cases perhaps they location should be switched... and, yes, in 16 days.

unless you are suggesting they play the games in HS gyms, there would not be locations to choose from since arenas already have things booked in them. And you can't really do a normal TV broadcast from HS gyms, let alone have all the cameras and equipment in place for things like replays and having things like shotclocks and what not.

then all sporting events that have crowds should either be cancelled or have no crowds....NBA, Hockey, etc...go the whole nine yards...

nah, that is not an over reaction....

I just had this conversation with someone this morning. We imagined that RU finally gets into the tourney and either we have to fly to Spokane, Washington...where Washington is a hot bed of coronavirus or the tourney gets cancelled totally.
it would be proof that God really does hate Rutgers.

The things booked in the arenas might also get cancelled, no?

You're like a dog with a bone

Do you have something against Asians ?? and casinos have plenty of whites and by the way viruses attack any color

I laughed when I read this. Then I saw who wrote it and that explained it. You really have a hard on for me. Smile...it's almost spring.

Didn't really buy into this as a possibility.
Until today.
Had conference tickets for March 30-April 2nd for Adobe Summit held in Vegas. Roughly for 10k people. It's held each year big venue, etc.

Just received email, in person conference is cancelled because of Coronavirus and everyone is Getting full refund.

So NCAA cancelling in-person attendance is not completely crazy.

I would love to see you plan this sort of thing on like 3 days notice.
which is why you make contingency plans 2 weeks ago.. so you don't have to do it on 3 days notice

you figure out what is possible.. you plan it on contingency and you have a drop-dead date where you can no longer trigger it

This is likely if there are >1000 cases by next Monday, which is quite possible - and financially, this hurts the host towns, but not the income stream, that much, since the vast majority of the income is from TV. I seriously hope they don't do this, as I intend to go to every tourney game RU is in, assuming we still make it, but safety and liability avoidance tends to trump everything these days.
