COVID-19 Pandemic: Transmissions, Deaths, Treatments, Vaccines, Interventions and More...

I’m not denying other things may be happening but bottom line is people ARE recovering. That “zero” just isn’t/wasn’t correct.

Here is the problem..ny post is sensationalizing by writing grim stories of those in the hospitals..the reality is the far majority are at home with the worst flu of their lives....media needs to stop freaking people out. Its a very serious illness but its not a death sentence. In the next 7-10 days you are going to hear more recovery stories and more from those who just had minor symptoms. Best advice is stop watching news

Ny border needs to be closed. No one goes in or out. Period
1000% this. Until NY (NYC really) can get a hold of the virus spreading, we're just sitting ducks letting people into NJ from the trains, buses, etc....

Its the biggest no brainer..im tired of hearing about De Blasio and CNN complaining about Trump. People in Nyc were some of the worst offenders of not social distancing. Bridges and tunnels need to be shut. You have 24 hours to move.

I think the entire point of what every person is saying and agreeing is we know this. It's not likely to gravely effect most people at all. You are right, the overwhelming majority will likely not get it or get it and be fine. BUT if you think that 10% (let's call it) of people need hospitalization and this happens simultaneously thats 33m Americans. Now if of those 10% need ICU thats 3.3m needing help simultaneously.

Of course having said that, I am youngish with no underlying condition that I know of, but maybe I do have an unknown/ undiagnosed issue? That fear is real for A LOT of people.

What happens if even in the small chanced outlined..you are the small, small percent of people who need the ventilator and we don't have any? That is the issue.

FWIW I am not worried about getting sick, but I don't want to spread it to people I know.

Bac, at face value that sounds like a good idea but in reality the current flow of infected people into and out of the city is likely to be far less than there would be in the inevitable mass exodus if a 24 notification is given.

This happened in Italy where everyone in Lombardy fled south and spread the disease quicker when they announced the lead time in total shut down.

If you had to do a complete border shutdown, you preposition all critical pieces in advance and announce the shutdown all at once without warning in the middle of the night.

what about doctors and other health care workers who live on one side of the Hudson and work on the other?

They need to start creating makeshift homes for doctors and nurses...set them up in the empty hotels..i would assume alot of them have chosen to stop going back to their homes as it is

Its their choice..as i said i am reading about many doctors not returning to their homes because they dont want to risk getti g their family sick

This is unprecedented..we need to do this..those health workers can choose to go back home if they wish. We will bring others in

Just got off the phone with my doctor, he does not want us to come in, so he has a question list he gives his
patients. and deals with his patients via the phone. I had some concerns about my wife's and my health, so one of
the things he said there are now two separate strains of this virus.

How long did it take other countries for the "flattening of the curve" if it even happend yet? How far out are we? I still think we are not doing enough. There are two many people/work groups that are deemed essential when they really are not.

Probably 3-4 weeks before the results are evident. People who were getting infected the last few days will get sick in a week -10 days and then wind up in hospitals (if they get that bad) in another week or so. People spend long periods in the hospital so we're probably 3-4 weeks away from peak impact on the hospital system. That's assuming the restrictions are followed and make a significant dent in new transmissions.

If people keep piling into grocery stores, costcos, etc in the never-ending search for toilet paper, then it will take longer.

I just ordered some quercetin from Vitamin Shoppe.Combined with zinc and echinacea, your chances for at least stability are heightened.

Quest Diagnostics CEO on CNBC now. They are now processing 25,000 tests per day in 12 different locations around the US. They expect to be able to do 30,000 tests per day by the end of the week and 100,000 a day by the end of the month. They've shipped out over 500,000 testing swabs thus far. Capacity is getting better.

Have you seen the videos of people in NYC going to large group parties in the Parks this past weekend?
This is actually mind boggling, obnoxious and self centered while at the same time it can be very dangerous to others.

Let the News continue to broadcast the “lethal” consequences of ignorant actions of some.
If you don’t like don’t watch.

I've been checking the international and US by state stats on the number of cases every day for the past two weeks. This week, NJ was in fourth place after NY, WA, and CA. Then yesterday NJ edged past CA into 3rd place. An hour ago, I saw that NJ is now at about 2850 cases, just over doubling the CA total.

I'm in Arizona so am not aware of what might have spiked this huge jump all of a sudden. And I haven't seen anything the geographical distribution of NJ's cases. Is it due to a huge jump in the number of tests being administered?

I'm from NJ, not AZ, and still have family there, including a cousin who would be classified as very vulnerable, which is why I'm so concerned.

I appreciate any insights anyone might provide about this.

thank you.

Drives me crazy. Went out for a properly distanced walk yesterday in town and what do I see at one of the local schools? A pickup 11-11 on soccer game. C’mon man!

Just a guess, but I would imagine a lot of that may have to do with the fact that NY/NJ are doing significantly more testing than the rest of the US right now. More testing equals higher numbers of what is being reported.

There has certainly been a huge increase in the number of tests being performed in NJ. The huge jump in confirmed cases is due to the increase in testing.

But they still represent a significant number of cases in NJ, even if they are cases that would have been unreported 2 weeks ago.

And even with the increase in testing, there are not enough test kits or PPE to administer as many tests as we would like. So only those who are symptomatic are tested, and the most severe are prioritized. So you can assume there are about 4-5 times as many cases in NJ as reported. (And then you can double that number, if you assume there is another half that is asymptomatic.)

Today NJ changed the reporting requirements for private/commercial labs to report results. Previously those labs only reported positive results. Now they have to report both positive and negative results, to give a more complete picture of the spread of disease.

I am glad Debbie Birx is not a debbie downer like most on this board

if you do not need a test, do not go

and she also stressed mortality levels are low..even with younger than 50 which this board and some folks want to scream about the outlier young cases

also she said with respect to testing...8% of those tested are negative but its 28% in the NYC/North Jersey area which means she said its likely to have been spreading around here for a few weeks.

Bac, the borders yhing is silly. Much like the EU travel ban, it's too late to matter

Dr Birx said positive results in the NYC/NJ area are at 28%

In the rest of the country, an average of 8%

NYC birders need to be closed.

No busses, trains or cars should be allowed to cross through our bridges and tunnels

Partially that but I think population density is a good part of it too.

The POTUS appears to be laying the groundwork to remove restrictions to limit spread in the near future. All based on testing results when testing hasn't been readily available anywhere in this country. Insanity.

Or they could choose to live their normal lives. Go into work, treat the sick, return home rinse and repeat. They are trained for this and for some are ready and willing to do what it takes to help.

something has to be done, there are areas fairing much better than others, if they find out its in pockets and can concentrate and isolate on those pockets and NYC is a huge pocket while allowing much of the country to start getting back to normal its a start.
