Criminal activity in Phila

1) you've obviously never been to Dodger Stadium

2) you obviously missed the Phillies fan, on his bachelor party, getting murdered by another Phillies fan at McFadden's (attached to the stadium), following a game a few summers back.

Nope, and I never would go to Dodger Stadium. First of all, it's in California, so that's reason enough, but I also do my best to steer clear of places where I have to fear being stomped by gang members.

As far as McFedden's, one step inside the front door should be enough for a sensible person to turn around, not because it's dangerous, but there isn't room enough to take a deep breath inside there.

Sorry to break the news to you, but when you check someone from behind, you get a penalty. It is called "checking from behind."

Thanks for the info. My comment was tongue in cheek as apparently this was the first time in a hockey game a player checked someone from behind, the anti philly lynch mob is out in full force.

There are many sports fans that are jack asses and I wouldn't condone and or take part in any of the actions that have been pointed out here. However , if you think NY is any different than I have a challenge for you. Put on a Flyers jersey and go to a Rangers/Flyers game and sit in the second level and root for the Flyers.

The two angriest fan bases in the league.

Is that why Devils and Islanders fans shout "RANGERS SUCK" at every game no matter what team they're playing?

"Potvin sucks!!" is chanted at every Rags game over the last 30 years.

"F*%k the Pens" was shouted loudly during a moment of silence for Ed Snider on Monday night.

But to my point, the two angriest fanbases in the sport, always mad and trying to get physical with opposing fans.

I'm a Devils fan and I've worn a Devils jersey in the upper level in both Philly and New York and I think there is a clear difference between the two. At MSG I have no reservations about standing and cheering for goals as if it was a Devils home game. Last time I went to a Flyers game, I got a cup of fries thrown at me for sitting in my seat and clapping.

At almost every Devils game I go to, regardless of the opponent, there is always at least one tool in a Rangers jersey who is obviously just looking to cause a stir and draw attention. Why they go to Devils games, especially on nights when the Rangers are playing at the same time, I will never understand, but they are definitely not treated with the same vitriol they would run into if a Devils or Rangers fan did that in Philly.

Back on the topic of Bellemare's hit, he was given a one-game suspension, which is about what I expected.

You're taking isolated incidents and trying to make them into a trend.

I have worn Mets and Giants gear in Philly venues without issue. Some typical trash-talking, sure, but I have never, not once, felt I was in danger of getting into a physical altercation.

I live in Philly. I wear NY teams' stuff on a day-to-day basis, again with no problems. Are there knuckleheads here? Sure are. A lot of them. But no more than in New York, Chicago, Miami, San Francisco, Los Angeles, or anywhere else where people like to drink and attend sporting events.

When things happen here, they seem to get a lot of attention, most likely because of the Santa thing and how the talking heads like to push the "There goes Philadelphia fans" angle. Once you earn a reputation, it's hard to lose it, but that doesn't mean it's not exaggerated.

What other cities have had as many issues with their fans? I've seen fans throw stuff onto the ice before, but I don't think I've ever seen it continue to the point where they actually had to assess the penalty for it. A few years back a Flyers fan threw a smoke bomb or stink bomb type of thing near the Devils bench, there was a Phillies fan who intentionally vomited on an eleven-year-old girl, and another one who shined a laser pointer at Albert Pujols, the Flyers fan that jumped/fell into the penalty box with Tie Domi, the Phillies fans booing the hand transplant patient because their ceremonial first pitch didn't make it across home plate, the Eagles fans throwing snowballs and ice at Santa Claus and then again at the Cowboys a few decades later, cheering for injuries such as Michael Irvin's, throwing batteries at J.D. Drew.

Every fanbase has assholes, and you can find examples of some of that stuff happening at other places, but is there any one other city whose sports fans have that bad of a track record?

I could give you some anecdotes too. Like the fact that the first batteries ever thrown in a major league stadium were at Dave Parker from the Yankee stadium bleachers. Or how I once personally witnessed a Red Sox jersey being burnt in the bleachers at old Yankee stadium. Or how I had a pretzel thrown at me at Shea. And then there are Jets games...but those are just anecdotes and unlike people in this thread, I won't generalize to an entire fan base.
