DBP v St Peters on Optimum Ch 61

DBP wins 60-59 on 2 FT's with .6 seconds left. Yes, obvious foul.

Harper had 25. Announcers raving about him. He appears to be all of the 6-6, 220 Rivals lists him at.

Watched Gil St. Bernard vs. Roselle Catholic. It's unfair how athletic RC is. Naz Reid looks like he's 30. Mulcahy struggled in the second half against their defense. He has great height and is a great passer and shooter, super high bball IQ. He obviously needs to get stronger.

What a terrible way to end a game last night. Ref called an extremely questionable foul with .6 second left. Bosco went to the line down 1 and hit them both.

Good news is Harper was the best player on the court.

Why would that not have been a foul? I know it's not uncommon to have a ref swallow his whistle in such a situation but the defender ran/fell right into the DBP player.

I remember a similar but not as big a situation when my son was playing CYO almost 20 years ago. Down by 1 with seconds to go he drives to the basket and gets knocked backwards landing on his butt. Refs turn a blind eye and they suffer their only loss of the year. Still ticks me off lol.

Isn’t it funny how sports does that?. I can remember plays from high school that still bother me.

As for the foul, in my opinion, the bosco kid was driving out of control and got bailed out by a call which won them the game. You can’t give free throws in that situation unless there is a blatant foul. Maybe I need to see the replay again but from my view the kid drove into a crowd in a frenzy and there was contact. The refs call decided the game. Whether that’s right or wrong it did. And I hate to see that. Especially when it’s highly debatable.

I’d love to see a replay if you know where to find one. I watched in real time so it’s possible I missed something.

I was there and there was a lot of contact. It was a definite foul, one I would call "assault & battery". I am glad that Don Bosco won. #3 on St. Peter's is a very good player.

My son plays HS basketball and wanted to see these games so we went. My impressions:

1. If you think college refs are bad you should go to one of these games sometime. They were consistently awful. I don’t know what was worse, the calls or the non-calls. The instant replays on the big board only accentuated how awful they were. Blown call, after blown call, after blown no-call.

2. I don’t see Harper as a power 5 prospect. God I hope I’m wrong but I think he’s just way too slow footed. His shooting is just okay. His stat line conceals the fact that he damn near blew this game for his team with putrid free throw shooting. He didn’t just have several misses from the ft line. He had several bad misses, the kind of bad misses good shooters don’t have.

3. Naz Reid is a top 10 prospect? If that’s true this has to be the worst senior class ever. How can a guy that big and athletic be so invisible in a game where he’s being guarded by guys 6-12 inches shorter than him all night? The guy literally did more bad things than good things in this game. He definitely looked more like a project than a 5 star player. He didn’t play like a big man who is ready to be a starter on a college team.

4. Mulcahy is a baller. He faded into obscurity relatively speaking after picking up his 4th foul about half way through the 3rd qtr. Prior to that he was making his impact felt, especially on the offensive end. He needs to improve his outside shooting and develop a higher release point (he shoots like Thiam) but the kid has skills.

That's a good explanation of the play right there. At the time I doubted the DBP kid could even get a shot off. I think the reason the foul was called was the SPP defender came close to low bridging the ball handler as he (SPP) appeared to fall forward. Perhaps in real time it may have looked worse to the ref than it was?

I wouldn't have had a problem if nothing was called. It was that close and the camera had a bad angle.

To me Reid is not in as good shape this year as he was last year. I also do not think he should be a McDonald's All American. I have doubts in his chance to become a star at LSU but maybe he will prove me wrong. He seems like he is just going through the motions.

I too hate out of control players given FTs in critical situations but it seems to always work in the fav/HTs favor to my dismay..
