Dino Babers

Why? When he didn't beat USF, Wake Forest or a bad Notre Dame team. And I realize WF is somewhat improved but his O scored 9 points. Again, we don't have a QB like Dungey and Dino is suspect on the defensive side of the ball.
Because those teams are better than Illinois, Maryland and Minnesota IMO. Iowa is nothing special. PSU is average. We lost a lot of players and we dont have the right pieces yet. We are playing young players who are not ready to contribute and beat those teams. I dont think we are very good but I see what we can become. Dungey is good but he didnt have any P5 offers coming out of HS and all our Wr's are average. Alot of people bragged about Laviano being a 4 star. I never said Dino is this great coach. Alot of years left before we judge. I Just think his scheme would have gave Rutgers a chance to win a few more games.

Short term, maybe. However, after watching that Wisconsin vs. OSU game last night, you HAVE to be able to play physical, tough defense in this conference to win. Wisconsin does nothing flashy on offense but my God are they physical on D. Same thing with Michigan State when they are playing at their best. Same thing with Iowa last year. Babers schemes play better in the Pac 12, Big 12 or ACC although I want to see how it fares vs. Clemson, FSU and Miami over the next couple of years. Keep in mind I'm not saying they won't score points...they will...I'm questioning whether they will be able to stop anyone.

I thought Dino Babers was a solid coach but a little farther down my list when we were looking. Dave Aranda (LSU DC now from Wisconsin) was my top pick but Ash was solid choice too with his credentials. You can't put too much in to 1 game or even 1 season really. It's consistency I look for and that's only something that's going to play out and reveal itself over some time.

Specifically with regards to Babers and Cuse, I think he was good pick for them because I've always thought schools like them and even us maybe to a lesser degree who have fewer resources recruiting grounds etc...have the best chance to compete on the back of a high powered offense and hopefully at least a mediocre defense. All the schools who rise up beyond their perceived status on the college landscape usually do it in that fashion on the back of some sort of spread offense.

I think Babers will eventually get a good offense going there but will he have enough of a defense? At Bowling Green, not so much but it was improving a little in his time there but not leaps and bounds. If you can't get that mediocre defense then you have similar Kevin Wilson type problems at IU. He's managed to crank out some good offenses at IU but his defense has always been lacking although this year with Tom Allen who they got as DC from USF they've improved some so far this season. So a nice win for them but again only a game, only time will tell for them and us.

Fair enough. I have the same concerns but I rather have teams that can score. There isn't many lights out defenses anymore. Have to score points and get timely stops these days. We will see.

I totally agree and your right its only one game. Believe me, I am still skeptical.

Everyone, especially the orange crowd, is ignoring the fact that VaTech was way overrated. Let's see how good that win looks at the end of the season. The ESPN/ ACC apologists have to find someone to vote for. FSU sucks. Miami sucks. Notre Dame (proxy member) sucks. Even Clemson is overrated. Would like to see how they would do playing #2, #3 and #5 in a six game set. Wisconsin is # 10 and has lost close games to #2 and #3. Who in the ACC comes close? When the ACC gets 4 teams in the top 10, then tell me how weak our schedule is.

I agree 100%. We are going to have to score a lot more but I think changing to a run heavy spread scheme will help eventually. 3-4 years down the line the switch will pay off. However, we've been historically bad on D the past 3 years...worse than the Shea years even...so that had to be corrected. Maybe Ash isn't the long term solution but he will rebuild this program to be ready to compete in the Big Ten.

'Cuse is 3-4, got hammered by Wake, and likely loses to Clemson, FSU, NC State, and either Pitt or BC, the rest of the way. Yesterday was what is known as an "upset" and not really much of one at that.

Get off his jock guys. He really hasn't done much at all and his recruiting is going to be Flood-esque (current class 47th).

You get more delusional by the day.

Where they way overrated when they went to Unc and won by 31.

They beat Miami on the road yesterday, is anyone not overrated? Illinois maybe.

Outside of Clemson, there is clearly a lot of parity in the ACC THIS YEAR. I follow FSU and watch every game and even they aren't as good as they've been in the past few years. It's still a nice win for The Orange. No one is saying it isn't.

Lville is really good.

You know the last time we upset a ranked team? Seriously I cannot think of it...was Cincy ranked in 2011? Otherwise I think it was USF in 09.

We have beaten one B1G team with a winning record since joining- Maryland.

I hate Cuse and long term we are in much better shape, but our fans who whine about "talent" should know if you took our last 4-5 recruiting classes, we outrank Cuse most of them. There is no excuse for us not beat Iowa and Illinois and them to beat VT.

Regardless of the opinion of Va Tech... they were ranked 17 at the time. When can we win ANY other game this year? Forget about us picking off a top 25 team...we may not score 20 points the rest of the year in any single game. Yes, Mich State is weak--but they can score and it is away. Maybe Maryland?

VT was overrated.

Flash in the pan for a gimmick. They will be going to the same bowl we will.

I guess if they are a gimmick then it is clear we are building a lasting foundation. It is crystal clear.....

I said they are overrated.

To clarify, the team from that decrepit city in the part of NY no one cares about won't be going to a bowl game.

Everyone is overrated I guess, we have a much better shot at going to a bowl than you, and we are headed in the right direction.
