Do non-bowl-bound teams abide by "no practice" rules?

i've been told that non-bowl bound teams are not allowed the additional practice sessions that bowl bound teams have. Do football programs abide by these rules? Or do they get around the rule in some acceptable fashion? The rule seems to defy logic (competitive disadvantage).

It would be pretty noticeable if they held practices with the coaches, so it would be very hard to cheat, even if they held it in the bubble.

I guess the question is, like basketball, if they're allowed to do individual and small-group workouts throughout the offseason, either with an assistant coach or training staff.

Yes they abide by the rule. It would be very difficult to get away with not following the rules considering how many people are involved in putting on a practice.

aren't the guys who will be back next year allowed to go to the bubble and run drills without the coaches being there? In warm weather schools they can probably just do that on an open field.

Maybe coaches are not allowed but maybe training staff is to assure no injuries.

If Michigan didn't qualify for a bowl, Harbaugh would find a way around the rule -- maybe a camp over the border in Canada, or a camp at Grand Cayman Island. Outside NCAA jurisdiction.

I think the NCAA should force the teams that didn't make a bowl to practice. They're the ones that need it.

They could do informal workout together until every one goes home for break. I doubt they do because at that point they just want a break. This is a players only down time to let their body recover from the season. Once winter work outs begin they don't get many breaks until next winter.

The extra practice while nice is so over rated by fans.

a real conundrum for the NCAA. Bowl teams use a lot of the extra practice they get to take a look at next year's team and freshmen. This puts non-bowl teams at a distinct dis-advantage! Whorebaugh took a good long look at freshman Kareem Walker during this time
