Duke - Illinois

At 17-11 Illinois needs 1 more win in their last 3 or they have a greater than 50 /50 chance of missing the NCAA tournament
Man, I’m genuinely not sure a team that at one point was top 10 in KenPom has ever not made the tournament.

Even at 17-14 (6-11 Q1, 11-14 Q1-2), that still feels like a better resume than other bubbles Georgia, Arkansas or even SMU with their zero Q1 wins.

I guess Illinois does have to watch if USC falls into Q3, and if they can’t beat Iowa next up I’d imagine they lose out atp

17-14 is problematic because next loss is 15...that is rare territory....18-15 might sneak them in....17-15 not so much

schools do not receive bids just 2 games over 500. My personal rule is 4 games above 500, Illinois a special case where 3 games above could work out.

6-9 in Q1 and 5-2 in Q2 for 11-11 in Q1/2/3 is strong but 6-12 and 11-14 is not

The point will be moot if they can win at home vs Iowa this week and then they are a lock and will end the season no worse than 18-13 or 18-14 with a first B10 tourney game loss.

if they dont beat Iowa, alot of pressure with a trip to Michigan and a home game vs Purdue left

Seems Illinois is having the same type of issue as Rutgers in relying on freshmen to be their best players. Jacucionis, Ivisic, and Riley.

Duke had no problem relying on freshman. Except for Proctor and one James the other 4 freshman couldn’t be handled by Illinois.

No doubt, but you’re talking about one of the best freshman classes in history at Duke. Pointing to an outlier doesn’t disprove the point.

This does not discount the fact that our supporting cast is poor as well.

Your last paragraph is hitting it on the head. Their supporting cast is outstanding . Besides Flagg, the other freshman seem to have gotten over what little slump they had and are now over the last 6-7 games are all playing outstanding , Kneppuel, Malbauch and James

Dukes freshman are much more mature and polished than both Rutgers and Illinois freshman.

Ace may get drafted right behind Flagg…but Flagg’s game is head and shoulders wayyy above Ace’s right now.

Knueppel also plays smart, fundamental and all around very basketball on both ends of the court considering how young he is.

The fact that GUnit still blames the garden for Mag getting hurt says it all, he is not rational about the issue of garden games

We lost a lot of RAC games this year

We also had a massive crowd at the garden, a home court advantage type of crowd

It didn’t matter, RU just was not a good enough team this year, at that point in time
Not blaming Garden but did happen there like it or not. Sometimes out of comfort zone…

Garden home court advantage while nice is still not the rabid RAC.

Well aware we’ve lost games at the RAC but that’s neither here nor there, what’s best chance for a win?

Also adding unnecessary logistical issues for a home game.

Love how announcers in today’s game noted that Izzo raised the white flag of surrender the last time he played at the RAC.
As all RU fans know he hasn’t been back since.

Never ever give up conference games.

Duke has surrounded Flagg with four guys who are shooting around 40% from 3 and a big man who will likely be a lottery pick. It’s easy to see why they are winning.
Duke also starts two veteran guards. Having veterans handle the ball and control the game. Duke does not rely on freshman in the back court. James and proctor are two outstanding guards. Put anyone of them on Rutgers, Rutgers would be significantly better. As usual pike teams tend to play better at the end of the season but if they could've found a way to pay Matt Alocco, could have maybe remained composed at the end of some of those close losses RU had in the beginning of the year.

Again
Izzo had nothing to do with our moving the game to the garden
Both times RU and the garden approached him about it

Well aware. Izzo was probably jumping for joy and laughing where do I sign. Just dumb.
Again, Wisconsin and MSU the first two
times
Again. last year one game against MSU and it’s away?
Again B1G has not made up the lost RU game.
Years later.
Again, Duke and Illinois get prime night slots.
We get noon and 1:30.

Duke Illinois got a prime time slot because Duke brought in Sentinel One as a sponsor, who paid the Garden a lot of money to put their advertising all over the court. MSG is mainly driven by what makes the most money for them.

You can moan about the MSG games all you want, but they still will be scheduled because they are such a big event for the university

If Pike didn't want it, if the school didn't want it, it would not happen

It actually becomes the premier event in basketball for RUEach year
The biggest

14, 15 thousand RU fans, an impressive turnout each time, with the surrounding bars jammed with excited fans pregame

Keep complaining, you will not get your way anyway
