He had already had the strand, lost weight and was past the contagious time frame when he travelled with the team to Indiana.
The doctors and trainers obviously thought he might recover enough by game time or they would have never allowed him to go.

This is some bad strand!….to be 18 years young and be this weak 4 days after being a game time decision is bad.

I still don’t understand attending the women’s game, the only thing I can think of is his flu is like an injury that can’t get worse by playing with it, only time will heal it.
So laying in bed wasn’t going to help.

You can be assured every move he made was approved and monitored by team doctors and trainers… he’s a college kid and can do whatever he wants is bs in this case.

Sorry not buying it at all.

If the first part of what you said is true about Indiana and being past contagious phase so that’s why he traveled.

Why the hell is he not in bed resting before the Wisconsin game instead of attending the woman’s game?

Either the staff is absolutely the worst in the country at what they do or Pikes lying to us again.

My OP answers your questions.
At some point days into a sickness, moving around, getting fresh air and moving your blood around is better than laying in bed.
And he probably already had intravenous fluids and rest

I understand and I don’t buy it sorry. No way a big time D1 power 5 program allows this to happen.

If he was past contagious phase for the Indiana trip then there is no way he couldn’t go last night.

That would mean he was 10 plus days past coming down with the “flu”.

The whole thing screams lies or staff incompetence

I agree, this time line for a healthy vibrant 18 year old kid is extremely long.
Chalk it up to Only At Rutgers

Agree100%. Just another F’up in this lost year.

What would be your professional as a teammates thought:
Well enough to attend the women's game but then can't go last night in a critical game?

Side note - I think nearly every thread needs a "and now Zap with the professional/teammate perspective".
Like the pregame routine stuff.

In hindsight Pike could have made a mistake with Dylan while he was in the game. The strategy was to put him on the wing to preserve his energy. He never got in to the flow of the game and adrenaline never kicked in. In addition pike wasted 15 minutes finding out Dylan wasnt up for playing

Exactly..may have cost us the game as a big hole was created. We were basically playing 4 on 5

you know the season has gone off the rails when people are criticizing a kid and coaching staff for how they handled the flu lol...sheesh

i mean he sat and watched a game. the hell is the difference between doing that and being home watching a game? and he lives next to the arena...

agreed though...strong possibility we win both and for sure i think we won the home game with Dylan

I think Dylan’s character and commitment is already well established with his mates.
They see him everyday, they saw him travel and attempt to play in Indiana.
I think they know the doctors and trainers thought it was ok he went to women’s game and they didn’t think a thing of it

You OBVIOUSLY didn’t read this thread, my entire OP was predicated on Dylan receiving the best of care.

Also worth noting....Pike never told Dylan after he took him out that he was done playing for the night. Dylan was expecting to go back in the game. When he finally was booted from the seat next to coaches he finally put his warmup jersey on. He then communicated with his Mom with a shrug as if he didn't know why he wasn't going back in to the game.

Shouldn't Pike have told Dylan when he took him out the last time that he was done.

I OBVIOUSLY did and am responding to multiple people in this thread criticizing him for going to see the Woman's game when he should've been tucked in bed with a bowl of chicken soup. Real staff would've done blah blah blah I mean come on. Plenty of stuff to debate but this ain't it. Kid is well enough to sit and watch a game but clearly not well enough to play full speed against other studs.

Followed by me then agreeing with your original premise that we would've won at least one of these game with him🤷‍♂️

Nah, disagree. If you are healthy enough to travel, healthy enough to be out so you can be SEEN at the women's game, you need to be healthy enough to show up and play. It's just a symptom of the situation. Dylan and Ace are here for six months, they are trying to experience everything they can in that time. The team's season isn't necessarily priority # 1.

alright i'm not gonna get in too far in the weeds here so we can just agree to disagree but i mean he was healthy enough to show up and play.

he did play and tried to gut it out for his team and he didn't have it. i for one appreciate his efforts because it would have been pretty easy to just say nah i don't feel 100% and don't want to hurt my season numbers/draft status/whatever...so i'll just watch tonight.

but you can go ahead and judge him for going to the game just to be SEEN and for traveling with the team (when again he probably doing so feeling like dogs*it on the off chance he felt well enough the next day to try and gut it out).

to me so far nothing i've seen from dylan on or off the court has shown that this season isn't his first priority. he's busting his a** and playing great. if you want to say that the way he's handling being sick as a dog is a sign of that...like i said we can just agree to disagree.

Like it or not, ignorant or not.
There an optic involved …. You know that Moon.
My immediate thought was great, he must be healthy if he’s out and about!

Some random thoughts:

Take away Acuff's injury and Dylan's illness, and I can easily envision a scenario where this team is 12-3 instead of 8-7. I'm not giving Pike a pass for the roster he assembled. Hayes and Martini have been big misses. But luck hasn't been our friend.

I think there is some truth to the idea that Dylan and Ace are prioritizing fun over being a student athlete. Think about the insane schedule Miles Johnson must have had. My guess is these guys are the opposite extreme, literally doing next to no school work, opting for being out and about instead. That said, I don't think it has impacted their performance or Dylan's ability to recover from his ailments.

mine too...and he played!

sunday evening he's feeling better. knows he's gonna give it shot tomorrow. wants to get out of his apartment and sit and watch a game.

you are asking to him to say, "no i'd better not because there is a chance i play poorly tomorrow and then it will look bad optically."

ya'll ever been sick before? you start feeling better...you go out...whoops that was too much i'm starting to feel crappy again. i mean this really isn't rocket science it's just crap we've all done before.

all of this is just hindsight nonsense because people are mad and are looking to critique anything and everything they can to vent. btw i'm super frustrated too and agree we can debate plenty that has gone on i just don't think dylan has done one thing to warrant it. he is literally the least of our worries.

He was ill a whole week before the Indiana game. From what I heard he was very sick that week. You guys act like he should magically recover in time to play a game for you. Ever cough constantly and also not eat.
Yeah it doesn't make you weak and take time to get to playing strength. Some of you macho men are so full of shyt.

So then did the staff just screw up with the Availability Report and bringing him to Indiana?
If he was that sick at least put him on the report.

It's more the staff than Dylan for me.
Obviously a player of his caliber is going to always say he'll try to play.

My guess......communication lines could be a lot better.

Let's also remember this is a coach that has in the past hasn't shown the most empathy for hurt players at times.

The flu can really take it out of you. I was a shell of myself for over a week after being able to get out of bed. It took 2 weeks before I felt like myself.

In the 1st few possessions, Dylan was just standing on the wing and basically watching the game.

There is NO way he should have played 15 minutes last night. I'd be shocked if he is 100% by Thursday. The staff screwed the pooch on this one.

I stated CLEARLY in my OP, the medical staff probably thought it fine and actually beneficial to get fresh air, blood moving and be out and about

Are you crazy, no one said he wasn’t sick or he should have been playing

I don't think anything was done by the staff with malicious intent

but.....

the point of availability reports is to remove "insider information" on injuries that could impact gambling on games.

A teams best player being absent from the official report and then suddenly missing the game due to a previously known illness could be a huge deal.

Imagine Mahomes was sick earlier in thr week but ultimately has no injury designation. The basic assumption is 0% chance he misses the game.
Then he just doesn't play at all.

I wonder if there will be penalties for the team for this.

So what. He didn’t play. They lost both games. Might have lost them with Dylan playing anyway

I’ve lived long enough to learn the life truth that with some people, teams, whatever, “it’s always something.”

Kansas City Chiefs don’t have this problem right now. But Rutgers basketball is drowning in it

What team doctors ? I didn’t know the team traveled with doctors.
High school teams travel with a team doctor and the home team provides their doctors.
Team trainers administer concussion protocol, the doctors make the decision if you can go back in.

I don't really get what you are arguing here but whatever...that it was ok for him to be at the game but also he shouldn't have been at the game?

my stance is clear. it was totally fine for him to walk over and watch a woman's game...and that i'm proud of him for trying to gut it out for his team last night. if you disagree with either point than we can just agree to disagree.

The amount of weight he lost shows how bad it was. If he was puking for a day or two it’s brutal.

I disagree with no points you made.
I said there’s optics involved with being out in public at the women’s game that naturally raises questions with fans.
