caught his wor interview with Carlin, which I think is best because it is immediately after the game ends so he's still emotional, and he was definitely angry at Goode Omari and Williams for not being able to make a shot, said something like our supposed shooters need to make shots, and if they're not going to shoot with confidence, they're not going to play, instead will play someone athletic that is willing to defend and rebound, hence the Batie sub, was def the biggest personal jab comment I've heard him make in a long time

But just another negative on him and staff to his decision to offer scholarships to players That are not B1G level

Having players on the court that can make shots has been a problem area for many previous Rutgers coaches. The difficulty in even making layups puts added pressure on the team to stay close in games.

Which is why I don't get the "I wish we had 7 Mike Williams' on our team" comments. 9 pts on 2/9 shooting? 1/5 from three? In a game that's "winnable", without Corey, he can't take his game to another level. It's been two years of the same...

spot on. enough of Mike Williams shooting threes. enough.

MW had a bad game. I also think PSU paid more attention to him. He is better than what he showed today.

He needs to be more reliable from FT line even if he's not hitting from the field.

Mike, it seems to me is a guy that really plays differently if he makes his first shot. He gets down on himself way to easy. I think the big job by the staff for next year is to get him to be more confident and move on to the next play if the immediate play did not go your way.

I have always liked Mike Williams but sometimes I wonder if it's because I dislike Daniels' play so much.

I now have come to the conclusion that I like him because he is supposed to be (and appears to be) our best 3 point threat.

The problem is that he is not a very point 3pt threat (or outside shooter). He is just the best we have....and that's unfortunate.

Patrick says it all the time we need to shoot the ball better.

That is not actually what he said (well, he said what you said he said, but it was only PART of what he said). He ACTUALLY said, in the 2nd part of his statement, when he reiterated his point, something like (I may get some of the exact words wrong, but close enough): "Our guys who are supposed to be our shooters are lacking confidence, and missing shots. If our supposed shooters are not shooting with confidence and missing shots, they need to rebound and play defense. I was not seeing that out of those players today, so I played players who are athletic and playing defense and rebounding." Jordan also said something like, "I am not calling out players ... well I guess I am ... Omari, Mike and Justin have the shooting skills ... if they are lacking confidence and missing, they need to show other things ... I was not seeing that tonight ..."

His point was NOT that he benched those players because they were missing shots, but because they were both shooting without confidence and missing shots, AND not giving enough effort on defense and rebounding. It was the combination of missing open shots and not providing enough effort on rebounding and defense, not just missing shots.

I believe Williams IS a Big Ten player - though maybe better off coming off the bench. Grier was a stop gag 1-year guy, after 2 Johnson's did not make it academically. Goode ... a mistake, sure enough (not athletic enough).

His press conference drives me nuts. He never talks about defense only offense. When he's backed into a question about D, he either sidesteps or says they're playing good defense. The worst Big Ten three point shooting team shot 40 percent from beyond the arc!

Etou seemed like he was not into the game way too many times. He was a decent rebounder but he drifted way away from the basket and looked to shoot outside jumpers. I cannot remember him ever driving for a basket. He just could not dribble the ball well at all. He didn't want to be at RU so we should just move on.

I also like Williams because of his rebounding, effort and toughness on defense. His problem on 3pt shooting appears to be that he rushes his shots. When he sets up and squares to the basket he's much better shooter. I also agree about Daniels . Some posters have said he's a great guy , good teammate. That may be so but he's a very poor guard. He can't shoot, finish shots , or ball handle. Constant turnovers , bad passes , drives out of control , and ole defense at times...Glad this is his last year..

Doesn't MW have a brace on his shooting hand?

Yes. He does.. He has a confidence problem. I told him to keep his head up when he came up into the crowd after the game..Ray, the kid has to be kept positive, but really hard with the depleted team, his mismatches, and the losing. I think coming off the bench next year or playing a lot of minutes if Ru goes 3 guards during a particular game will be good for him because no focus will be on him. Corey and Nigel will demand more attention.

ETOU disappeared in too many games....
Thats a bad combination
we seem to have over the last 20 years an abundance of players who don't make their presence felt on the court (or even worse their presence on the court is a negative)

Thats because we recruit badly.

whether people feel losing Etou is no big deal because he isn't that good isn't the issue....ITS A BIG DEAL...to the injury and roster and recruiting issues with Jordan.

Losing the other players is the only reason I miss Etou -- At the end of last season he would openly mope on the court and fail to run back on defense when he missed makeable shots. He was poison. I only miss him because of how desperate we are this year.

80RU...I could NOT agree more. From what i heard(posted here) ETOU was a downer to other players. Add an equally moody but more talented kadeem jack and it was a crapshoot if anyone showed up to help Mack

I agree,,,that sort of junk IS poison

Patrick.....I agree
but in retrospect>>>>.Etou and mack and jack were pretty decent players
2 of those were moody as hell LOL

Williams - Hard to shoot with confidence from the outside when you have a bad wrist. I am sure that is playing in his mind. At least he knows that Eddie is giving him the green light. This year is meaningless. Get that shooters mentality and come back next year healthy and hopefully show everyone with confidence that there is hope. (how's that for a glass 1/8 full for a monday morning?)

Lots of 18 - 22 years old skilled athletes are moody and not always have great attitudes. Good coaches figure out what buttons to push. Great coaches figure how to maximize their talented. Bad coaches get eaten alive by these types

Well Jack wasn't Jordan's recruit. Etou was, but it may be best that he's gone if he was a cancer. That's a problem that we don't have this year (at least) and that does come down to coaching as well. This team, while undertalented, undersized and has everyone playing out of position, hasn't given up. That's coaching also.

It's not enough on the balance sheet to offset the overall body of work, of course, but it does point to some success that Jordan is having. Along with the bad, there is some good...there's just not enough.

The object of the game is to win. The problem is the guys now buying in are not the better players on the team - always a huge issues with guys lack Jack & Etou. They could have been so much better, which would have made the team better. A productive Etou this year would have gone a long way to making this year much less of a disaster then it has turned out.

You can say that Sanders seemed to buy in this year - and that's true on the court. His suspension may say something else regarding off the court. Very troubling (along with Freeman).

Your stars need to be all in - given their suspensions, they have a ways to go

the next time I hear us sign a shooting guard or small forward with the phrases "developing handle", "scoring guard" or "good mid range game" as one of their positive attributes I am going to barf

We need guys who can shoot. And shoot beyond the edge of the arc. The last time we had TWO of them that we a threat on the court at the same time that could stretch a defense outside the arc? We went to the NIT finals (Douby and Shields)

not a coincidence....

I hear ya, Shack. Reminds me of wide receivers who are athletic, run great routes, and have excellent speed... but can't catch the damn ball!
