ESPN buys second half of B1G rights for $190M/year

The Big Ten could have proposed we pay them $5m a year for the first 7 years of the contract and it would have still made sense to take the deal. It is what it is.

And carrying it to them in bags of pennies, if necessary

So the front loaded money has got us a new coach and this new football facility, that we want now, not 10 years from now:
We'll it's apparent we're going to give the other approach a shot. Since we didn't get a front loaded contract, nor a stipend to travel our teams, nor are we willing to borrow against future earnings. See you in ten years, I really hope our strategy pays off. It doesn't help that you have a benefactor like UA pumping millions into your athletic department does it. Why did you get all those concessions again? So you can start building all those shinny new toys sooner? WOW, I guess we really did get screwed.

No you weren't screwed.

Think of it this way. We were working at yahoo and you were working at the sports authority. The sports authority was going bankrupt, and yahoo was on a downturn, but still a good job. We both got hired by Apple for the same job. You jumped at the job right away because your current job sucked. We had to be convinced to leave and we got a relocation check, signing bonus, and they hired a freind of ours. However, we both got the same job and will be paid equal over the long run, we just were in a much better position than you and had to be compensated for it.

Rutgers is way behind the in the arms race, but honestly the future is so bright. Far brighter than it was before in Big East. Rutgers is far better off today than it was 10 years ago, problem is your competition took a major step up so its hard to tell by looking at wins.

Local guys in the NYC just need a reason to stay, having the practice facilities and luxuries the kids want will be great, they will not be better than the top tier schools, but you need something. You need a basketball arena that doesn't look it was designed by Stalin.

Honestly Rutgers can suck in everything, but so long as you get football on track and can at least not be dead last in basketball over the next decade most people will view Rutger as a sucessful addition.

Beat Penn State or one of other big boys at least once a year, then you're already better than 1/3 of the league.
