The head of Disney acknowledged that the unbundling of ESPN from cable services packages is all but inevitable.. Presently approximately two thirds of cable package subscribers don't watch sports and presumably would drop ESPN if they had a choice. So one way or another ESPN's revenues and the revenues of college athletic departments will decline

The big Ten is in the best position of the power 5 programs with respect to future TV revenues. As Fox and ESPN are apt to fight over the Big Ten content. The old big Twelve is in the worst position as Texas carved out its own network. Money is likely the driver behind Oklahoma!s discontent

The ACC has the right footprint but is late to the show in terms of its own network. The time difference in the East hurts the Pac 12 The SEC has the most fanatical fans but not the best TV footprint

The recent scheduling change in the Big Ten is primarily an effort to make the Big Ten Network more attractive to TV viewers as opposed to selectors for the championship playoff The Big Ten has been th e most TV savvy of the conferences

The open question is how will the top 20 or so programs respond to the changes This could mean further conference realignments and more made for TV games like Alabama opening with FSU in Atlanta next year
