Basketball Eugene Omoruyi Transferring per Instagram

Personally I wasn't convinced his knee would hold out for a full season next year. So I wasn't totally counting on having him next year to begin with. My goal always was first winning season in ages next year, NCAA the following year. That hasn't changed

he will be replaced but where is this guy...that guy is in the future, what it does is impact a chance for a special run NEXT SEASON which alot of people were rallying around (not necessarily me)

the question is will it be easier or harder to get to the NCAA next season with or without Eugene or the same

Bac, the point I was making is that EO wasn't "the guy" but was a big part of multiple guys. I don't think he will be replaced by "a guy". But he will be replaced by multiple guys, (two open ships still exist, who knows who will be brought in). If last year is any indication of how Pike likes to coach there will be a lot of guys in the rotation. EO's role will be filled by several different guys. It might be better, might be worse, we won't know how well the teams plays until it happens.

talking record...well actually 15-19 is similar to 14-17..point remains, RU had a slew of new talent last year and still was similar to previous season in the end

and Eugene was responsible for much of that..no? the team was hot garbage for the 3 games he missed
The new talent should be better because of the experience they got playing as freshmen and because they were new to the college game, last year's improvement should be considered a fairly good thing rather than a repeat of the previous year.
Did Eugene have a hand helping those inexperienced freshmen play , I think he did.
But with EO's knee problem we can't be sure if he'll hold all through up this season if he plays a lot of minutes and more than likely Rutgers success this year would have be based on Geo and those freshmen along with the kid from TT (Young) and Myles Johnson's play. Don't forget this year's frehman Paul Mulcahy that might let Baker play a game better suited for his talent.

The worst case scenario being brought on because of Omoruyi's leaving might not happen , because RU finally has enough talent that can overcome losing the talent and leadership he brought to the table.

The worst case scenario might be if EO stayed and his knee gave out affecting the team more than loosing him to transfer.
His knees have been a problem and no one can say ( unless repaired) they won't be again.

I loved EO’s game and toughness. His game reminded me a bit of Dramond Green (at a lower talent level and without the stupidity). He was clearly an over-achiever and got the most out of his talent but in no way did I ever see him as a top BIG player. With that being said I’m still disappointed he won’t be on the banks.

For the “sky is falling” types look at it this way... EO returns and goes down early season with his 3rd knee injury, so it’s Next Man Up time. Shitt happens and the team will still be “turning up in Piscataway.” Next year is going to be good!

Agree 100%. EO would be a question mark on any given play in games or practice next season, and honestly didn't expect him to be really that close to his production level when healthy.

2 things people dont want to hear

1. This is a big loss
2. Might have been a mistake getting Ye
Both are true, but losses can be overcome.
Counting on transfers from ( so called) lesser programs is a mistake.
Even those from top programs ( any position) need to prove themselves before anyone should think they will make Rutgers better after RU loses a top player.

for starters I do not rehash anything from espn, I do not visit their site, I hardly watch it so not sure where that comment is coming from

secondly we lose the HEART AND SOUL PERIOD/. Who got the rebounds late, who got the free throws late, who was the calming influence late. Who showed up

RU could survive Sanders leaving because he wasnt a team player and was no leader. Yet Sanders left and the team finished with a worse record even with more talent.

Eugene wasnt knocking down 3s...I am concerned about rebounding. Once again we have posters pinning their hopes on a lesser league players like Yeboah coming and being gangbusters..how did that work for Kiss where multiple posters laid rose petals at his feet....and I like Yeboah, he is a great addition, but lets be real here as well, he comes from Stony Brook, things are a lot different in the Big East as an undersized guy. Also we lost Shaq and now Doucoure who is incredibly questionable is up next...the loss of Eugene really puts pressure on him to perform and its wishful thinking until he does perform.

How does heart and soul show up in the final games, at 60-65% healthy and on one leg.....getting unlimited touches and there's no one else to score or rebound??

C'mon man....find something to latch onto...tell me he's going to drive in traffic and elevate over defenders....he's going to block shots....he's a stationary defender if he's not healthy.....

My "guess" that there's enough to elevate this roster isn't a statement that Yeboah is Peter Kiss....or at least acknowledging that Eugene was compromised and you or anyone else banking on him being anything close to 100% is the largest leap of faith I've seen or read.

You can't be the heart and soul if your injured or have talented players coming through the pipeline with upside.

I would venture to guess or agree that if you told me, Shaq Doorson was a bigger loss or deal on defense....but Shaq was finally healthy and had some good moments, now that he got in very good shape.....Eugene's injuries reduced his impact dramatically.

There are 2 spots open but we are in a position to find a full time longer term solution up front, a JUCO that isn't threatened by players getting shots and improving and find out before jumping off the deep end.

It's late May....explain to me, what was the gameplan if Eugene decided to sit out this year and get healed up....would that matter?? What if he dislocated it a 3rd time in late December.....would be ball up in a circle and cry....???

"Heart and soul" walked out the door in the middle of the night and your still tossing rose petals at his feet and Yeboah might be Peter Kiss.....OK, I got it now....whew....!!

In Eugene’s defense.....you are the best player on the team and your coach went out and took a one year guy at your position and probably told him he would have a decent amount of playing time meaning you (Eugene) would have to play some out of position.

Gene looks like an ass. Nothing less.

Again we don’t know the details....if he left because he felt slighted it doesn’t matter how he looks on the outside. What matters is what is going on the inside.

Again speculation here. Need to know more facts. I said it at the time Yeboah signing was a risk it wasn’t a no brainer. If it caused Eugene to leave, and Eugene ends up being healthy, Pike made a monumental mistake getting Yeboah.

Wrong - you always try to get better.

If anything, this 12 am post shows me that Eugene may have a severe drinking problem, cause he certainly would have to be drunk to think this was a good idea or look for him.
You continue to amaze with asinine comments. You were doing ok for awhile but you have definitely regressed

This kid is not special. He wasn't special until he got here and pikiell put his blood sweat and tears into the kid. And he rewards him with a 12 am "I'm outta here" and not spelling his name right. What an absolutely putrid kid.

Devils advocate....

How would Aaron judge feel if the Yankees got Bryce Harper and they told Aaron to get a first basemen’s mirr

There is no way you can make that statement without seeing how productive Yeboah is first. If he comes in and lights it up, it's Eugene who?

If you feel slighted because a coach did he job and is bringing in talent to a roster that needs it, you aren't what you think you are.

You can say whatever you want. Maybe I am not saying what you want to hear. Eugene is gone. If he left because Yeboah is here (speculation) my asinine comments I made when Pike got Yeboah were basically 100% on the money.

Again I may be getting ahead of my skis. If he ends up at Providence and heaven forbid plays next year somehow I think I nailed it a few months ago.

Devil's advocate back at you: We're a better team without a post player with a 26%+ usage rate which is what Omoruyi would've gotten.

Put yourself in Eugene’s shoes. Was Yeboah brought here to be a backup 4?

When you are building a team and trying to get better, don't worry about what one player thinks about recruiting other good players.

There is a coach at RU now who tells his team straight up. "It's my job to recruit the very best players possible. It's your job to be the best player you can be so you get a chance to play".

Sports is all about competition, internally and out. You think Alabama isn't recruiting good wr's because they got good one's the year before? Absurd. Good players will want to play with other good players. Eugene is no transcendent player. We aren't talking about Michael Jordan here, who likely had the mindset bring in whoever the f you want. I'll beat them.

Pike's job is the get the best players he can whenever and wherever he can. If a current player doesn't like that, than they aren't meant for this.

Fig don't know how this got on you. This is directed at Ashcatchem. He has posted at least 5 times bashing the kid and thru 5 pages no one knows the reason why he is transferring. I say bash when we know why if reason is bashable. Maybe family member with serious illness this is just as possible as a lot of crsp being posted

If Yeboah scared Eugene off, that's softer than quitting on your team at midnight through Instagram.

Steel sharpens steel. Yeboah came here thinking Eugene would be here ready to compete. What's that say about Eugene if he got scared off?

If you're a baller looking to position yourself for the league, Yeboah is a God send. You get to go against another baller in practice every day.

Ashcatchem has to grow up a little. Makes Rutgers fans look bad.

He could have done that here.

Would they of allowed him to sit out and red shirt?

If not that, it is tampering. Or who knows, maybe G league it?

On all accounts, Omoruyi was well liked by teammates and liked Rutgers. His second career choice was nursing.

6 months? Try 6 hours.

He went from being a gritty fan favorite to "ehh he was a ball hog. Screw him. We don't need him".

What a good reminder of the ignorance that comes out on this board the second there is any hardship.

Absolutely agree.
