facilities a non-factor on the recruiting trail and other media day stories.

Not sure what else Eddie can say about this. But, the following comment from the article by Carino is both disappointing and disturbing:
"The truth is, meaningful progress [on new basketball facilities] could be a long way off."

I don't know if its because of Barchi, Julie or both, but fundraising is obviously not going well and it reflects poorly on the Athletic Department.

It's only a non factor because we don't have any to sell. The OP is a bit misleading.

I usually like Carino, but that article was self serving (look at me!! I said this months ago!!) and misleading.

These are the times when I just reallllllly dislike our local media.

I'm not sure that this is an indication of any delay. The phasing plan for the new practice facility and RAC improvements called for it to be included in the first phase of the master plan, which means completion by 2019. That's still up to 4 years away.

It's no surprise at all that our donors aren't giving. It's how it goes at Rutgers.

Until the shovels are in the ground its probably folly to think the practice facility will be built prior to 2018 .In the interim Jordan has a very difficult job in attracting top tier recruits that can actually make Rutgers a winning program.

Here's what I posted regarding this on the wrestling board:

The university hasn't paid to build or majorly upgrade basketball & wrestling facilities since opening The RAC in 1977 & I guess putting the annex on The Barn in the late 1950's but that didn't have an impact on either. The university can continue to kick it down the road & fall further behind or it can address something 30+ years late already. Investing in athletics is invaluable, something that Rutgers has never understood, & will generate more $ by helping recruiting, which helps winning & brings good publicity & increases ticket sales, merchandise & concessions sales, among other things. Those increases will indirectly pay for some of the debt service. The state is giving us a $25M tax credit...maybe, as the Assembly hasn't passed it & it certainly hasn't been signed by CC. Btw, that's $25M of $600M in available tax credits & other undeserving schools get the same $25M. Lesniak's commissioned study said we need to invest at least $100M to upgrade athletics facilities. How about Rutgers show some commitment for once.

Eddie mentioned Corey has a slight hamstring and groin issue that has limited his reps in practice some. Hopefully nothing to worry about.

Also two scrimmages, one this Saturday, one next Saturday.

Eddie had good things to say about a Corey, especially in the class room. Said a few times he gave Eddie "the star look" and Eddie responded by putting the team on the line to run suicides. No special treatment for anyone, they are all learning to do things the right way.

Sounds like every sport Rutgers has not named football.

Coach jordan knows facilities might get him more wins and would be that bridge. Right now, recruits arent coming because weve yet to show the ability to come near .500. No doubt facilities are needed.

I don't know what others think, but Jordan doesn't sound too confident about the team from an offensive perspective. "we have supposedly good shooters, right Mike and Justin?" It seems like the team is going to really show defensive skills and a selfish style of play to pull out their wins this year.

I didnt read anything to suggest that EJ was not confident about anything.
He was clear. We have better atheleticism and better depth. We have perimeter players capable of making plays. Our offense will be geared to create situations for those perimeter guys to do there thing. Be it driving and finishing, dumping off to bigs or kicking out to the line.
We will see who knocks down shots when the Pop Corn is Popping.....
I like that last........

Rutgers has the largest athletics subsidy in the nation. Its the State and the donors who are not doing their part. The University is doing more to prop up athletics than any other school in the country. It should come as no surprise that if you actually look at the funding behind all of these shiny new facilities everyone is putting up, they are all tied to either donors or government money. They are almost never University funded.

The fact that there is no timetable reflects poorly on the department, as well as donors.

Just prior to the Mike Rice debacle, TP put together plans for the RAC renovation including fund raising .
The proposed project would have resulted in a state of the art facility including restaurants, luxury boxes,
shopping, hotel, and outside park with jumbotron for viewing Rutgers sports events.
The architectural plans were all drawn out and shown to prospective donors.
The RAC renovation fund was created.
I personally made a pledge which I have honored.
When Tim left the project died.
I questioned JH about those pledges that were designated to the RAC renovation fund and she told me
that those funds were still there.
Not sure what to believe at this point.

I don't remember restaurants, shopping or hotel as part of TP's RAC renovation plans. You may be thinking of the overall plan for Livingston campus, separate from the RAC. (The shopping and restaurants are already built and open.)

Also, there were no architectural plans drawn up. There were only conceptual drawings (and the conceptual drawings were not consistent, as they showed differing details for the seating bowl).

All of what you said, yes. I just thought that one remark was funny.

It reflects poorly on Barchi. He is the president of Rutgers University. Rutgers needs a leader, someone who can champion both academics and athletics. Were are in the BIG, a conference who charter says members will strive for both academic and athletic excellence.

Rutgers needs to make some kind of commitment more than just Barchi saying Rutgers isn't spending a dime on infrastructure, and won't set any dates until Donors step up. Huh? This is ass backwards. Rutgers should prove to donors they are committed before donors anti up money. Sorry Barchi you want donors to invest in a project you hardly seem committed to, with no dates, and you tell them we will all get excited about it when you put up the cash? Sorry, its laughable.

Is that what he's telling donors?

Is that what he's telling donors?

From Master plan unveiling:

Asked when a shovel could be put in the ground for the multi-use/parking deck facility next to the RAC, Barchi said the "timeline is entirely dependent on the donors.''

"We've got a plan that we can put in the ground tomorrow,'' he said. "But I'm not putting a shovel in the ground until I see the commitment from the donors to make this happen.''

But unlike what you claimed, he is providing timelines and specifics to donors while raising the funds.

Great, so you must be one of the donors he has spoken to. What are the timelines, and how much have we raised? Thanks.

Don't know how much money has been raised. The last timeline I heard is they're looking to start by the end of 2016. I believe that timeline is contingent on the tax credit bill passing the Assembly and being signed by Christie.

But I don't have the type of funds they are looking for, so I wouldn't be told if timelines shift around. But that doesn't change the fact that Barchi is actively working with Hermann to raise the funds, and they are providing specifics to people to solicit donations.

Barchi has absolutely NO vision when it comes to athletics or common sense and its value.
