Facilities update from Carino

Wow
That is gold, Jerry!

Change is hard, and especially difficult to INITIATE the change.
My point - I did not want Barchi to can Julie that last week of the season. I couldn't imagine we would hire someone who could actually LEAD RUTGERS athletics, let alone hire someone even competent.

Pat Hobb, however, has changed EVERYTHING.

IMO, Hobbs will be one of the most important hires in the history of RUTGERS athletics.

We appear to be in excellent hands, and I can't wait to see it all come together - facilities and program improvements across ALL sports.

Go Hobbs!!!

these plans were all under way before Hobbs, I don't think there is anything new in this piece with that.

....I still see the same obstacle going forward and that's fundraising and that's where he has the major edge over Julie in that he may be able to tap into corporate fundraising and make some political moves

Sounds totally different to me. The plan to dump some teams into the bowels of the stadium seems to have been scrapped. I hated that from the get go. Plan to have a facility for soccer and lacrosse near Yurcak is new. Also, the plan to have the new facility attached the RAC sounds more like one of the original Petnetti plans. Of course I use the term "plans" lightly since they are more thoughts or ideas at this stage I'm sure.

Hobbs has been on the job for what 3 weeks and most of it has been dealing with football and finding his way around this place. I don't think all of a sudden he has come up some kind of new plans in a very short span of time. Julie said there basically was no shortage of plans and drawing all over the ADs offices. I think everything is going to follow the so called master plan that came out 6 months ago.

Shovels in the ground are the starting point.Everything else is just chatter waiting for fund raising to happen .Hobbs has enormous challenges to overcome .

I agree, Colonel.

I especially love Hobbs' quote about not sticking 1 or 2 programs into situations that you immediately regret.

Julie did a good job getting the plans to this point.

However, I am THRILLED we now have Hobbs in place to review and tweak with a fresh set of eyes before we move forward.

AND...

Thank goodness we have someone as an AD who will actually SPEAK PUBLICLY ABOUT THE PLANS to everyone and anyone (media included).
That, along with his private meetings with boosters and others, will pay huge dividends and help breathe life into these plans.

JULIE served her role while here.

Boy, does Barchi get a big old ATTA BOY for having the balls to make a change and do so with such a bright and engaging guy in charge.

GOOD TIMES AHEAD, FELLAS!!!

I wonder how many other big ten campuses Hobbs has been on. It only when you get around and see what these other schools have in place do you realize how large of a hill we have to climb.

this is true, I hope he is touring a bunch of them. I know that Big East schools had lavish practice facilities but across the board there other sport infrastructure weren't up to par with basketball. The Big 10 is a huge step up from the Big East in how things are run so I hope Hobbs is planning some trips out to the Midwest and making some calls to gather intel

Don't you think that Pat got verbal assurances that RU would spend money on facilities before he took the job? He is rather smart and a lack of spending was not exactly a secret. My guess is that there will be real change.

You guys are nuts.

Everything described in that article is taken directly from the master plan, adopted before Hobbs came on. The facility attached to the RAC is the Multi-Use Facility and Integrated Parking (i.e. the Julie/Barchi/Lesniak parking garage pictured on page 307 of the Master Plan). It is nothing new. Its all in there if you want to read it. Athletics covered at Section 4.6

Plans are fine, but fundraising is the key. One of Julie's strengths was supposed to be fundraising. What kind of experience does Hobbs have in this area?

this is true. The article makes it seem like Hobbes has been here for 3 weeks and look what he is already accomplished. He is now tasked with building on what has been worked on for the past 2 and half years and there must be at least some money pledged from donors that were in discussion with Julie.

to answer someone elses question, it looked like Hobbes was involved in raising money for the Prudential Center so that is a huge plus here and that should be his strength. I believe Julie was hired to get us to one place and Hobbs has been hired to take us to the next place which involves mega fundraising on a level that Julie wasn't going to be able to provide. The only concern with Hobbs is his experience in running the day to day stuff where he is short on experience but hopefully he can assemble a loyal competent staff to do that

He was a key cog in getting the Prudential Center built. That's big in my mind.

OC is correct. I think Hobbs is a GREAT hire but some of you are giving him credit for, well, not new ideas.

Who is better qualified to SELL the idea.
JULIE who wouldn't even speak publicly, or Hobbs?
Not even close (and I supporter JULIE until the very end).

Also, was the building for soccer and lacrosse mentioned before JULIE was let go? I don't recall hearing anything about that.
If so, great.
