Who is out there that RU realistically has a shot with at this point? Anyone expecting any surprises? One month to go until signing day.

Count on a surprise or two - but define "surprise" - will it be "WOW" or "WTF" ?

There will be some "Huh? who is that?" guys that surface - but will assume that each has a back story that argues favorably for their consideration as a strong potential contributor.

28 days to go - 20 commits as of today - reportedly 4 of which will be EE's - so just by arithmetic, (and assuming all current commits stay committed) conceivably there could as many as what ? nine more? - of course subject to overall limits & prudent judgment (just because you can do the max does not make it smart) - so then maybe at most - more like 5-6?

For the wrap up of 2017 - here are some names that have been getting attention - and there are many more in this "may consider" category
- Some are waiting for that call from their "Dream School" - and will be playing the waiting game - before saying to RU - I'm ready to say "YES"
- Some may be hoping that RU calls them up and says - we really really want YOU - please commit to us RIGHT NOW

And what about another JUco
kadeem goulbourne?
There was a t hunt article in september about his interest in RU

I think that the Juco RB was offered as a preferred walk-on and Juco DT T. Harris was offerred a 'ship.

Not necessarily about recruiting but the best news for us at this point would be to have Janarion Grant come back.

Good point. When should we be hearing about this. I have to believe he has heard from both the NFL on his possible draft projection and the league on his waiver (I was under the impression from some of the articles earlier in the fall that he was to have been told by mid December). Anyone know or heard anything?

Not hearing anything means there is a great deal of uncertainty with Janarion Grant staying at RU ... looking for a good outcome for Rutgers doesn't normally work out in OUR FAVOR...Grant will probably be leaving...nothing more than an opinion.

I would think exactly the opposite. If he was sure he would have announced by now (not that he won't go...). The "uncertainty" part lies more towards staying, than no, in this case (IMHO).

I was given that info by someone in the program. Grant had a life changing experience last year.

Anything can happen, so I don't guarantee anythjng.

Ash is having a pretty good recruiting year so far with a final push for Feb 1 NSD.

Of the 20 recruits you currently have, I was curious as to what states your recruits are coming from.

Pitt's (Narduzzi) recruit state distribution for the last two years is as follows.

2017 (so far):
Alabama (1)
Florida (5)
New Jersey (3)
Ohio (4)
Pennsylvania (5)

2016:
Florida (4)
New Jersey (2)
New York (2)
North Carolina (1)
Virginia (2)
Illinois (1)
Ohio (5)
Pennsylvania (7)

How many Pa recruits did you pull in this year.

Going forward what states do you think Ash will be targeting.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

I would like to see us reopen the FLA pipeline we had under GS.

Ash seems to have an eye on the (seemingly) improving NYC high school football landscape. He landed 3-4 recruits from the city in 2017 and already has one commit from 2018. Other than that, I think he wants to hit NJ as hard as possible and throw in the occasional PA, CT, MD guys. Maybe Florida will be a priority at some point as well.

That pipeline never closed. In fact, the other guy did as well as GS in Florida. Maybe he wore a disguise.
Year-#Florida recruits
Schiano:
2009- 2
2010- 8
2011- 2
2012- 1
Total-15
That Other Guy:
2013-4
2014-7
2015-4
2016-2
Total- 17

All things considered, the other guy did fairly well in Florida. Some of those recruits left, but we have Grant, Harris, Wharton, Applefield, Russell, Hicks, Blunt, and Sneed on the roster.
Shane Burnham has deep ties in Florida and Aaron Henry is from Florida. Wonder if they will keep the Florida pipeline open.

Agree.

In the past WVU went into Florida for many of their recruits.

Going forward I am also curious how their Big 12 membership will impact recruiting that state.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!
From what i understand, they shifted the focus from FLA because of the B12. I believe that was mentioned on XM not to long ago by one the recruiting gurus.

By the way,I think Ash (Rutgers) did well with your new OC and RB coaches (can't teach experience).

It was always my opinion (said before) that you guys had better talent than your 2-10 record indicated.

With your experienced OL and these guys on Board you would have had maybe a 5-7 record this year (IMO).

I would take it but the O really needs to step it up to get to 5 wins. Have you guys named a replacement for Canada yet?

So there are a few names you have not mentioned that are definitely on our short list of targets. Most is premium info so I will not divulge but I will give you one name that I know is out there- Army All-American P Tucker Day.

was not meant to be a complete listing - & certainly hoped that names would be added
- but -
without divulging names - at this point are there any real genuine final stage - short list - "targets" that have not yet been identified as having received an "offer"?
- other than certain desirable Preferred Walk-On candidates

Have a feeling that if there are to be any "OMG - nobody saw that coming" major recruits landed on signing day or just before - there will pretty much be no hint or clue beforehand - not here - not anywhere.

No four stars, but a few solid three stars may pop up.

No

However, I trust Narduzzi will get another good OC.

Sorry to lose Matt Canada but that is the way it goes.

AD Barnes did verify that Pitt offered Canada a 2 year contract for $1.0 million per year.

I believe LSU offered a 3 year contract for $1.33 million per year ($1.8 million with incentives) and he accepted.

Good to know that Pitt did offer $1.0 million per year to keep him even though he went for the BIG money.

I thought Canada did a great job as well for you guys. do you think Canada leaving will have an impact on your recruiting?

No I don't think it will negatively impact recruiting.

I believe Pitt is still in the running for a few more good recruits which Narduzzi hopes to add before NLI day. Also remember Max Browne (USC QB Grad Transfer enrolled at Pitt in January) after Canada announced he was leaving.

What is interesting is that Matt Canada was fired after 3 years at NC State and came to Pitt and had this great season. So I'm interested to see what LSU does with their high priced coaching staff. What is also interesting is that before Matt Canada came to Pitt Jim Chaney left and went to Georgia which ended up with a 7-5 regular season.

I think Narduzzi is proving to be good HC and has assembled a very good offensive coaching staff (IMHO) which makes it easier for an OC to come in and succeed. Example Tim Salem (Pitt's TE coach) actually was an OC at Purdue, UCF and Eastern Michigan.

Many on our board are speculating who Narduzzi will bring in as our next OC but I'm just going to wait until he makes the announcement.

I am guessing that whoever is the new OC, the offensive style will stay the same. I really liked your offense last year, it gave PSU and Clemson fits.

Boy do I agree with you.

What is funny is that many on the coaching staff are jokingly saying that Matt Canada's play book is not copyrighted.

I think (IMO) a lot of Canada's play book will probably be incorporated into the new OC play book.

Pitt's major concern for next year will be starting a new QB.

When QB Nate Peterman got knocked out of the Bowl game with a concussion, Pitt was forced to put in frosh Ben Denucci (sp) because they did not want to burn QB Tim MacVittie (RS soph) red shirt.

He is going to be (IMO) a very good QB for Pitt but will be pushed by USC grad transfer Max Browne (Rivals 5-star No. 1 rated QB in 2013).

Will have to wait to see who wins the starting QB job in September.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!
