Franklin and Rhule

PJ Walker could have been the RU QB,wanted to come to RU badly, but Elmer Flood told him he would have to play saftey because he didnt fit in RU offense...LMAO..
In his 4th season as a starter PJ threw 12 interceptions vs 20 TD passes against AAC competition

As a RUTGERS FAN, I hope we hire Rhule after NEXT SEASON (Late Nov-early Dec 2016). Just do it Hobbs. Get the contract ready by Halloween. Announce it after Thanksgiving weekend.

As usual, a very rational post.
"As to Moorhead, I don't remember what I might have said about him."--someone will find it!

PSU's success is due to a combination of things: 1) an OL that was atrocious last year and got better; 2) Trace McSorley ( a lowly 3 star recruit) versus Hack (a vaunted 5 star flop); 3) Moorhead; 4) Off the charts talent at RB and WR.

Expect PSU to be even better next year, as I think most of their offense comes back. Will be interesting to see once they lose McSorley an Barkley and Moorhead leaves for HC job what happens. I'd like to have those problems at RU.
Many here overlook the importance of having a very fine quarterback running the show. Two years ago Rutgers battled Penn State and should have won the game despite PSU arguably having a much better defense than today's team, especially in the defensive line. Yes their offensive line was worse but the big difference was a very ineffective Hackenberg. Now with McSorely running the offense it is so much better and has elevated the level of play for the entire team. Rutgers played without a QB this year and the results are self-evident.

I think you have said "without a QB" twice today, but is that really correct? Don't think any QB could be properly evaluated with the OL play we had this year. Gio had one very good game against Minnesota, and unfortunately, he was hampered by a bad hamstring and a bad knee the rest of the year. Too soon to say if he will develop into a good, very good or "very fine" QB, who consistently puts in solid performances. Like others here, I have a good feeling about Jonathan Lewis--will he be RU's version PJ Walker or Greg Ward? Let's hope so.

I don't think many people were calling Rhule a fraud. He can coach.

Fraanklin on the other hand...as another poster said I know quite a few PSU fans personally who were pulling for his firing back in October so let's cool it with the egg on the face. He may have won the BIG10 but he's still a douche and in glad he's not our coach.
I don't get into the name calling, you can call JF whatever you want and debate his ability all you want. all I know is he has 49 wins as 29 loses as a head coach. if you wouldn't accept that record from our coach then I don't know what to tell you. A coach job is to win, so he has done his job. I take a douche that wins, your words not mine over a nice guy that loses any day.

Lewis could probably be PJ but he's not as dynamic as Ward.

When you recruit like he does you will always have a good team.
Not just the recruits, but tremendous coaching too. As an example, had to replace three Dlinemen that were drafted and though they got off to slow start, as the season ended they were great. The recruited talent of the replacements were not high rated players.

Many people on this board wanted Franklin when he was the Vandy coach.

If you want to call them "PeddState" make sure you calle them B1G champs while your at it...
13-10 (lol)
28-3
39-0
You guys are winning at the institutional child rape cover up game too. The sad fact is that if you've personally had any impact on either thing, football team performance or the coverup, it's probably contributing to the cover up.

But sure, go ahead and brag about stuff you didn't have a thing to do with achieving.

soooo- you are saying being "PeddState" is ok as long as you get football wins? I never call your school "peddstate" and cringe at it but what you said, sums up the entire problem.

Yeah Hackenberg was bad during the 13-10 game, but Gary Nova was worse, couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.
Flood should've pulled him after the first half and a 10 zip lead, but....

Hell, if he was a safety he could have played both ways.

As far as Franklin goes, I thought the jury was out on him prior to this year. Yes, he won in the SEC but never managed to win an SEC East title when FLA and TENN were down. I now give him due credit as he has won a B1G title and has two top 10 wins.

Rhule is another story. He managed to lose to Kyle Flood twice which is quite a dubious achievement. Before evaluating him as a coach let see what he does at a P5 school first. The AAC is not the B1G. In fairness, the same goes for Herman at Texas.

I assume you are trolling, but if not... At the risk of playing Captain Obvious, there is a big difference between the year-to-year quality of a team, and the long term quality of the program. If you think Temple has a much better program than Rutgers, you constitute a minority of one.
This. It's like saying Notre Dame is a crappy job because the have a losing record this year.

So you suggest Flood recruit a running QB when we ran a pro offense at the time? Please send links to your posts at the time advocating that Flood sign Walker as one of our QBs.

I questioned Franklin's coaching ability and agreed he was on the hot seat when that subject was discussed here .
After the OSU win I begrudgingly gave him credit for being better than I thought he would.
It's no big deal to admit when you're wrong and the Nit QB proved me wrong about him as well.
Rhule wasn't dissed by me, except I felt he was being overrated and still feel that way even though he coached Temple to 10 wins the last 2 seasons , I think it's too soon to claim he's great.
Golden I felt would succeed at Miami, that was proven wrong.
Addazio is another one that I consider being made better than he really is, but he could still prove me wrong because the 4 years he has at BC might not be enough time fair to judge him fairly. But for now he seems like a pretty good HC,but not a great one.
The program he took over was in a downward spiral and he seems to have stopped that, even though BC was 3-9 in 2015. So 2017 should be the time he shows if he's more than pretty good.

Don't expect me to jump on the Franklin band wagon praising him like some seems to expect RU fans to do.
I'll just say he proved me wrong and I won't deny he deserved the B1G COY.
Cases could be made for Harbaugh bringing Michigan back to prominence and
Urban keeping the Buckeyes the class of the B1G, along with being playoff bound.
But Championships should count and with the B1G Title COY should go with it.

Just because the Nits FB team is doing good, don't expect me to praise them or jump on the Nit/Franklin bandwagon or ask other RU fans to put down their dislike of Franklin.
The same goes for praising Temple HCs, I don't have to and won't.
This is a Rutgers board and no one can tell me to praise another school's HC if I don't want to nor accept someone who jumped on the Nit/Franklin bandwagon implying Rutgers fans don't get it because they don't like a HC and/or the school he/she is at.

Rhule was Al Golden's OC. That says something! He was a huge factor in putting Temple "on the map". And Rutgers' offense under Ash and boy wonder Mehringer will never approach the Temple offense. Get it done, Hobbs. If Rhule stays at Temple next year, make him the Coach in 12 months.

Agree with you JonS that playing without a QB is tough...and the results are clear. However, playing without receivers who cannot separate, an offensive line that can't pass protect or open running lanes, and an offensive coordinator who is clueless...and the result is clear too.

PJ Walker isn't a running QB
