I usually stay at the East Brunswick Hilton when I come up for games. Is there an alternative on the Piscataway side of the river that isn't a dive that anyone recommends that is as easy (or not) to get to after the game as getting back across the river.

Thanks.

Was up there in April on business and stayed at this Hilton/Homewood Suites property just off Easton Ave. In the Fall, when up there for FB weekends, though, I try to stay at the Hyatt downtown; it's become tradition.

RU in Pinehurst: Heading down your way this weekend for a friends 65th birthday. He's an alum class of 72. I don't golf so what else can I do besides drink?

I'll check and see what events are scheduled and will post my findings.

In short, it is amazingly hot and humid here in August, undoubtedly the worst month to visit. With that, few if any events of note are typically scheduled this month.

If you're interested in military history, there's the Airborne & Special Ops Museum in Fayetteville, as well as another Special Forces Museum on post but open to the public.

I'll see what's on in the village and at the resort and will post later on.

OK Gary, here's some additional info, for your consideration. But, not much happening. . . .

You can escape the heat at “The Sunrise,” a local Independent Movie Theater on Broad Street in Southern Pines, which is currently showing “Mr. Holmes.” Good reviews. The venue is a neat old, single-screen cinema, restored not so long ago and well-maintained and supported. Serves wine and beer. Weekend matinee at 2:30 pm and evening show at 7 pm. You can stop by the Jefferson Inn or Neville’s for a drink, just a short walk, after the show. A rowdier and younger option would be O’Donnell’s, a pub that’s also very near theater, as is The Wine Cellar & Tasting Room, a more subdued venue for grownups.

Right alongside The Sunrise, the Southern Pines merchant community is hosting a “First Friday” event beginning at 5 pm, with live music and local craft beers and a few food options.

If art is your thing, the Campbell House on Connecticut Ave in Southern Pines is holding a “Fine Arts Festival,” opening on Friday evening.

Nothing on at the Pinehurst Resort; their next event is the North & South Senior Amateur Championship, August 17 – 20. The US Kid's World Golf Championships just finished its two-week run. That said, you could/should check out The Carolina Hotel and the Ryder Cup Lounge while you're here. The resort's spa is always a good option, too.

In the village center you’ll find the Tufts Archives, co-located with the Givens Library. The archives is a museum of sorts, showcasing the history of the resort and village. It's free.

Nearby is the Pinecrest Inn, a favorite watering hole for locals. Lots of character and characters. Maxie’s is a nearby “dive-ish” sports bar, and right next to it is the legendary “Tater Barn.”

On Saturday and Sunday the village’s equestrian venue, The Harness Track, is hosting a Dressage event: the "Early Morning Blues Dressage Show" (8 am – noon). That’s a short walk from the Clubhouse at the resort. The track restaurant is a favorite breakfast spot for locals and visitors; nothing fancy or special, for that matter. For a nicer breakfast, though, try the Villager Deli in the heart of the village; the Pinecrest Inn and the Carolina Hotel offer brunch on weekends. The Farmer’s Market is also held off the village green on Saturdays.

That's about it. If you have questions, post away. Enjoy your visit.

Embassey Suites on Centennial Ave. There is a Raddisson right next door. Both about 5-10 minutes to the Stadium. Close to the River Rd exit of Rte 287.
