GAME THREAD: RU vs Children of the Corn

The play their asses off every night. One or two legitimate shooters would change a lot.

Need to recruit a legit scorer. All of the other pieces are there to compete. But they don’t have a go to scorer.

Nebraska is clearly a better team but if Thiam shoots decently Rutgers wins. Also way too many turnovers. Rutgers definitely played good enough D to win though. They are just a bad shooting team.

Just like a lot of shooters..he is streaky...next game he may just go 3-7 on 3 Point Shots.

Need a few more next year because shooters are streaky.

Can't expect to win against teams like this making turnover mistakes the way we have. Just brutal... could get over the hump.

Doesn't help that Issa had an absolutely horrific game... 1/10 is just awful, from a guy who is supposed to be a halfway decent shooter.

I don't care how many 3 pters Thiam hits in practice you have to donit in the games.
I think I would rather we Bullock out there at least he has an offensive mind and is not afraid to attack

We just don't have anyone that can shoot even close to consistently.

Until we do, we will not win games like this. You need shooters in basketball. We have none.
it doesn't help when we have a guy doing his Nigel Johnson impression of taking it reckless into the bigs and getting stuffed over and over and pouting when he doesn't get the call. He should have been taking those 12 footers instead.

and their big had 4 fouls with 5mins left...and our bigs were actually scoring and shooting > 60%....but we didn't go there and let Corey run amuk to the right over and over.

Pikiell is not a good offensive coach. Look at his Stony Brook numbers.

I do agree with you here. For 4 years, he just let Dougher run the offense and shoot whenever he wanted. However, we also have pathetic shooters.

really this is ridiculous. We're bringing a cap gun to a nuclear war. Who do you think is going to start sinking shots for us if John Wooden is coaching?

I don't think -- NOBODY thinks -- our offense is going to be anything great given the lack of shooting. But you cannot convince me that we're making the most of what we have on the offensive end.

sorry, I have my concerns as well. plan was to just let corey take over regardless of what else was happening out there. we had bigs scoring today and Baker didn't shoot like the last 6-7 mins...

18 effectively add Johnson Kiss Mathis Carter Harper Jr

19 pray for Hyatt Dixon Mulcahy

Our offense is very frustrating but I don’t understand people asking if we even practice running any sets or that Pikiell isn’t an offensive coach. It’s talent. Until we increase it, we’re going to struggle running anything. You can see we start to run some plays, but when we run into teams who actually play defense, we struggle, which is why we always seem to end up with Corey going 1-on- in the last 8 seconds of the shot clock.

Sa 2 of 4 in 14mins
Shaq 2 of 2 + 2 foul shots in 12mins
Douc 2 of 3 in 9 mins

6 of 9.... why can't we go with what is working against a team without a strong front court and the one guy with foul trouble? THAT's bench coaching IMHO...

Sorry to say, but if you want to score late Sanders is still our best option.
yes...almost every night.....but the guy tonight was loose with the ball, forcing the drives, and getting burnt on D. not tonight.

stop and take the mid-range cause he wasn't getting any calls nor should he have with thosedrives.

Sanders' shooting percentages have gone backwards both seasons since he was a freshman. I don't know what you do about that. You can't be a guard and not make 3's in the Big Ten.

Even with the horrid shooting, we were still in the game until we began turning it over constantly.

This just goes to show what a difference coaching makes.

We are in almost every game because of coaching. We lose almost every game because of talent.

Pikiell's a very good (not great) on-court coach IMO. His recruiting has left something to be desired. 2019 class is going to be so key.

Corey is the best player on this team and I feel bad for you if you think we’re better off without him. Peter Kiss is 6’5” 190 and if you watch any of his highlights he isnt even a point guard. Corey HAS to force shots and drives because he is the only one that has the capability of creating his own shot. It doesnt always work when you play a good defensive team like Nebraska because we are so limited offensively

You were watching Stony Brook games 4 years ago? Where...on ESPN?

I know the Doughers well and watched Stony Brook them every time they were on tv. The Doughers are all class acts. Even went to a couple of their home games...so yes

I’ve watched Bryan and his brother play since they were little.

And...Bryan Dougher could have coached that team just as well as PIkiell. His grandfather and father were excellent coaches.

Went to a high school game tonight. Both teams rained 3's..
We just cannot friggin shoot. We cant seem to get QB's who can throw. These are problems that just never seem to get addressed in this place called Rutgers.

Corey has to force shots to create shots? Not following you there.

I can handle our football and basketball teams being bad but the thing that kills me is that they're both bad in the most infuriating and least entertaining way. How do you have a football team without a guy who can throw the ball? How do you have a basketball team without guys who can shoot it? And yet somehow we have both.
