Gameday Traditions you miss/want to see dropped/would like to see

Would Like to See:

1) Glee Club sings the alma mater and/or fight song at the scarlet walk, in stead of the pep band. to me, it's much more old school / traditional. We are the birthplace of college football after all. it should feel like we are the oldest P5 team. I think the glee club in all suits with scarlet ties is more fitting than the pep band in tee shirts.
2) more band music and/or glee club in the stadium, less ear-splitting recorded music over the PA.
3) pull some of Soup's football songs out of the archives and have the Glee club sing them pre-game.

LOVE the scarlet walk. Sooo disappointed if this ends.
LOVED going on field after spring game, would love to see it brought back.
The knight on horse intro is such a great idea but needs tweaking. For example, the timing of the horse coming on the field should be super close to the team following.
After some (all?) Scarlet walks the drummers play over at athletes Glen, it's super great and just another small thing that adds to the overall experience. Oh wait, is this a tradition?
3rd down music and also, "and that, is a rutgers First Down", well, I'm glad we have something so unless there's something better to offer at those times, let's stick with it.
Start an end of 3rd quarter tradition please! A song by Bruce or bon jovi (living on a prayer) would be Jersey no brainers. I would love to do the wave during this extended break. We did it once or twice in 2006 or 2007 where it went fully around the stadium like 3 times. I don't care what the negative nellies say, that's deff cool.
Lastly, really enjoy the recent techno type music but I know that's just personal preference.

I love our Alma Mater and gives the old school feel. But playing it right after the SSB does not allow the fans to get into it. THe student section goes right into the RU chant and most in the stadium just sit down. We need the students singing to be the focal point and the go into the SSB.

Not sure if there is protocol about when the SSB is played.

I'd like to see the team on the field for the SSB. All of the other B1G games I have attended the teams do this.

@rubigtimenow the drum corps plays in the Athletes Glenn after every Scarlet Walk. they did a great competition with Indiana back in 2014

@Plum Street the distance from the locker room to the end of the tunnel is actually quite long. and there is a pretty large & very steep staircase that needs to be navigated as well.

Troughs, not urinals.
More Tubas in the band.
More replays, less ad space on the scoreboard.
Mic' up Coach Ash for a game. What could go wrong?
Craft beer garden at Athletes Glen.
More dramatic use of the Scarlet Knight on the Horse, maybe like the FSU Indian with the flaming spear to start the game. Our Knight could stab an opponent w his Joust?
More Port O Johns in the tailgate lots.
More screen time for the dance team.

Less ear splitting piped in music. More band. This is college football for gosh sakes, not a club.
More Glee Club with the SSB or Alma Mater. They're so darn good they should be a source of pride for all you alums. Show 'em off.
Agree on Glee Club with AM.
NO ear splitting music. I used to be able to talk to people next to me without yelling.
Bring back the Queen's Guard, and a drill performance during halftime.

Any reason alma mater couldn't be sung before national anthem?

Loves the bagpipes idea. I played at a small division III school where a band? of bagpipers led the football team onto the field from the locker room all the way on the walk down to the field in front of all the fans. Still get chills thinking of that entrance.

Love bagpipes also but they have no relevance to Rutgers or Old Queens history. If we went from the Chanticleers to the Marching Scotsman it would make more sense. But pretty sure the Dutch did not use bagpipes. But they also had nothing to do with Scarlet Knights.

I have worked with many of the guys in the FDNY Band so I understand what you're saying and where you are coming from but IMO I just don't see it as a Rutgers "thing".

Yeah. I know ND has the guard with the kilts and all. Do they have bagpipers?

We should become the Flying Dutchmen, play spooky music over the PA system, and have this guy as our mascot:

And he could ride onto the field in a replica of this:

Manasquan came out with a piper for their Senior Day in the lacrosse game against St. Rose at the Army Camp.

It was very cool.

The only thing i would like to see drop is the dozens of different entrance songs that are played before the Team finally comes to the field. Why the hell do we have so many entrance songs?

Well, as @MrsScrew said, it's a looong walk. And there is that staircase thing too.

We'll never match the homegrown tailgates of some of the big schools, so I would look to be original. I would do a long aisle or circle of grease trucks of all kinds and call it the Grease Walk or something like that. I think it would be awesome and very Jersey - and would get a ton of notoriety. If you saw the crowds at the Smorgasburg (which is grease trucks in Brooklyn) you know the crowds would be huge.

Change the third down music. Just play the bells and cut the guitar follow-up.

Students (and many others) currently play an air guitar and stare stone-faced at the field for the first 10 seconds. I can't believe I still have to write this... strumming an imaginary guitar and then swinging your hand in the air without making contact with anything adds ZERO crowd noise. Staring angrily at the opposing team while your mouth is closed doesn't add anything.

The speakers are obviously loud, but if you listen closely, the crowd is actually much quieter for the initial part of the third down music. Because the student section isn't clapping or yelling.

This is more important now than ever with modern offenses getting to the line and running plays quicker. Opposing teams are often hiking the ball before the student section has made any noise.

Traditions to bring back:

- Queen's Guard drill team and that Rev War uniformed fife and drum ensemble I vaguely recall from the early 70s

New thing to try out:

-!7R66 flag brought out by players with campaign streamers attached to the top of the flag, just like military color guard flags. Streamers can represent bowl games, big victories.

Stuff I don't want to see again, but this is stuff that is all across college sports:

-eye black war paint
-the skip-walk done by some after TDs and big plays
-those big ass bows in cheerleader's hair
-The Wave

Never got this. A hostile environment is one that is loud, especially on third down. Not a slow motion Pete Townshend.

I've made this suggestion before, but running this clip (go to 1:30-2:52 below) from the movie Excalibur would be a great way to blend the Scarlet Knights with the team coming out of the tunnel. Just add cannon fire at the conclusion of the clip:

I do wish we'd get rid of the train horn - every friggin' stadium seems to use that nowadays.

Although the air guitar is a bit overplayed and kills the student section noise... I LOVED during the Penn State game two years back the resounding "F**K PENN STATE" every few seconds. Classless? maybe, but that's what Rivalry football is. Listen to a video where Alabama plays the song "Dixieland Delight" the ENTIRE stadium chants "F**K Auburn".

Yes, as stated, let's get rid of the tradition of LOSING.

1) I like the "team has left the locker room" and live video.

2) ***Since the team drives along the main tailgating path I'd like to see the team get approximately where the blue lot is and walk down the road to the stadium. Tailgaters/fans can greet the team all along the road. Closer to more of the tailgating fans, most of whom don't want to travel to the scarlet walk. At a minimum the band should walk down the maln road to the stadium-not the other road.

3) From UNC on gamedays in Chapel Hill I bELieve the band starts in town and marches through the campus to eventually the stadium. Waking UNC students are serenated by the Carolina band and there's nothing like getting up in a college sweatshirt on a cool morning to the band before a game. At a minimum the band should walk down the man road that separates the yellow and blue lots- not the other road.

4) "The Wish-Saturday". All cheerleaders, dance team members (and his favorite women's soccer player) proceed pregame to section 125 and sit on Ash Saturday's lap. Fantasies and desires are whispered into Ash Saturday's ear. Each young lady provides her updated cell, email and social media addresses so that he can assist with this matter . Not valid for "nooners".

5) "Hash Saturday"= For those who just want to party...

6) Since NJ/the area was such a big part of the Revolutionary war perhaps for the beginning parts of any stadium entrance it might be cool to have a few shots/pics of key revolutionary figures or events. For instance, Washngton crossing the Delaware (that incredible strategy and subsequent battle of Trenton turned the tide of the Revolution. It migh be cool to homor that. Its been said football players are modern day warriors. Perhaps theres a split scoreboard with the historical shot and Scarlet Knight on horseback. Maybe before the stadium shots the Scarlet Knight can somehow "look back" over his shoulder to the past history of NJ (to reflect and pay homage) and then head into the stadium/field to greet those modern day Scarlet Knight warriors.

Well the game day experience is really different from game day traditions.

And on that note, I would like to see the band go back to playing Loyal Sons at the end of the game.

Wait, the band stopped playing Loyal Sons? When did this happen? The day I come back for a Rutgers game, if I stay for Loyal Sons, I will probably cry my eyes out. No joke, that is how much it means to me.
