Gameday Traditions you miss/want to see dropped/would like to see

Would Like to See:

1) Glee Club sings the alma mater and/or fight song at the scarlet walk, in stead of the pep band. to me, it's much more old school / traditional. We are the birthplace of college football after all. it should feel like we are the oldest P5 team. I think the glee club in all suits with scarlet ties is more fitting than the pep band in tee shirts.
2) more band music and/or glee club in the stadium, less ear-splitting recorded music over the PA.
3) pull some of Soup's football songs out of the archives and have the Glee club sing them pre-game.
Love the idea of the Glee Club singing some of Soup's old football songs somewhere before the game.

I want the real Alma Mater
I want the real Alma Mater
and I want the real Alma Mater

(and yes, I know there were some minor changes over time
but this new p c version is putrid. I haven't done a big survey but the females I know
sing the old version....some of them are under thirty years old so it is not
just us old folks )
Then sing the song as you prefer.

1)get rid of "tell me something good" for replays. Feels like a 70s porn song
2)don't know if this is a tradition but can we actually hear the refs calls for once
3)when the PA announces commercials the energy comes to a standstill
4)I remember the team coming out to Hells Bells, fired the crowd up good.

the air guitar is the greatest tradition grown by the students and crowd, anyone calling for ending it is so out to lunch its not even funny

We do.

One of the interesting things about my complaint is that when Julie was AD
and asked fans the same question as this thread
she replied to me that she had no control over what was put on the ribbon boards.
What? The AD has no control over the ribbon boards in the stadium.
Didn't believe that and thought she either 1) didn't think it was a battle worth fighting as she had other issues,
or 2) she was one of the ignorant p.c. proponents

Couldn't agree more.

It's something that is unique and cool to Rutgers. The student section gets absolutely pumped up. The only issue is getting the older part of the crowd to participate.

What's wrong with the sound system?
For YEARS now, we've had an ongoing issue with being able to actually hear the refs penalty calls. Game day experience problem number one...(btw, not a sound problem, but a wireless mike issue)

Kudos. What a measured, civil, well thought out post with no ad hominem that politely disagrees with your position. You are to be congratulated, especially since you are new to this board with only 84,000 posts. Are you the progenitor of said tradition or did wifey piss in your cornflakes?

For me, I'd like to order "lunch" from the menu. Can you post it or are you too busy getting ready for the season playing guitar hero.

I agree, did not like the changes.

I totally agree with points 1, 2 ,and 3. Not sure bout 4...Hells Bells is beginning to sound so last century. (This, coming from a guy who still likes when they play Elvis Costello's "Pump It Up". How come the students don't know this 1976 masterpiece?)

I initially disliked the air-guitar stuff for similar reasons stated above regarding reduced crowd noise. The visual, however, is really neat and it is something that is "ours." I'm not completely married to the idea, but it is a cool visual.

For those wanting only traditions steeped in some sort of folklore......all of the traditions nationwide started arbitrarily somehow. If you want to wait for traditions to magically occur, we will be 90 years old waiting for a gameday tradition to evolve.

I would like to see trophy games with PSU and Maryland.
1) Visually is the only way the air guitar thing works. We need noise, especially now that everyone runs a no huddle/hurry up offense.
2) Did the air guitar 3rd down song really start here?? I know I've seen other teams use it so I just assumed it was a thing throughout college football.

No Jovi...

We need something that instantly gets students up and moving and making noise. (I'm not even sure if I'm talking about third down or taking the field anymore...). But something they all love and gets them moving like all that techno crap...WAIT, THAT'S IT. I watch the student section and its techno music (or dub step, club, or whatever it's called) that gets them up and dancing...instantly. I think most of us hate it but if that's what it takes then I'll endorse it. I'm not kidding. I think we need to best techno crap song out there to get them going.

I think you'll agree if you give it some thought.
