I'm impressed by how respectful most of the Iowa posters are (compared to the ones who have visited this board). I was also surprised by the "ped" reference for Penn St; PSU fans have implied that only Rutgers fans do that.

Yeah, that's kind of what I was going for. Sick and tired of Rutgers fans getting a bad rap on the boards -- some of it deserved due to disrespectful or arrogant behavior -- and we need to have more of these types of conversations with our opponents' fans.

I do applaud your diplomacy tactic. However, Degaz-RU it's civil because you went on their board and basically said we're going to get our ass kicked by 10 pts.. Try that same move except say I think we pull this one out in a close one and the responses would be totally different. It's the old saying you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Thus why I applaud your strategy. Everyone likes a little ass kissing and will usually respond in kind.

It is also interesting to see the thread about Iowa expecting a backlash from the refs as punishment for how Fran treated the ref. I sure hope so... If they let the teams play with a loose whistle it favors Rutgers

When visiting an opponents board the opening post is key to how the thread goes. and our OP here did a very good job, the thread remained respectful on both sides

The only boards I see that rule broken would be posting on the Cuse board and the hall
board, and even there it is just a few who cannot help themselves and can poison a thread

This is more a result of years of tough competition and some fans can never let that go, even after a respectful post.

Well, I didn't say we were going to get our asses kicked by 10 points. I said it would be a close game for 36 minutes and that Iowa would pull away at the end and win by 10.

I think if you have a respectful debate, most opposing fans wouldn't be too put off if I ended up saying that I think RU will pull out the game in a nail biter. But go on another board and say their team stinks and we'll wipe the floor with them, and you get what you deserve.

Unfortunately many message board fans take it to far. I've never cared for those fans that like to trash talk the opponents fan base. The Iowa and Nebraska posts have really gotten ugly against each other!

Threads like "we'll never win another game this season", or "fire the coach", and "fans just sit on their hands". I am a little disappointed that a small number of our fans went over there and acted like a-holes. I don't like when visiting fans come here to be a-holes after our losses, so I don't think our fans should do the same.

Rivals should have an IQ test to join, it would make things so much better. I like reading thoughtful posts on the other team boards after our games and half the time the conversation is ruined by a couple ****ing idiots from here that make it about which state sucks more, or some other idiotic post.

I think when a few RU knuckleheads post on THEIR board, the thread inevitably will go downhill.

It is THEIR board.
They can say whatever we want.
We shouldn’t feel like we have to swoop in and bring them to justice by bashing the state of Iowa, etc., etc.

How do we react on our board when that happens?

People get pissed. Rip their fans/team/coaches, they respond trying to defend their own, some mod on this board says he is, “Taking out the trash”, and we all lose because there is no civil discourse.

Anyone who talks trash on another team’s board IS trash IMO.

Maybe Rivals should have a forum just for that nonsense on each team’s site.
If people want to partake in that immature dialogue, go ahead.

At least the regular forums would be more readable and interesting (getting other team’s honest feedback on our team / program is interesting to me. And it can only be honest if it doesn’t get polluted by outside (us) posters.)
Even if we say nice things, it still somewhat taints the thoughts people will write about us.
