I go by this old saying.
No matter what you do: someone will find a reason to dislike it.
Personally I hope Halfey does a poor job at BC.
But that doesn't mean I don't appreciate how he helped Rutgers when he was an assistant , just want BC not to be able to recruit well against Rutgers .
I’m not sure how 5-5 is a good year for BC. It’s exactly where they were last year with a much weaker schedule. I mean seriously - 3 of those 5 wins were Texas State (2 win Sun Belt Team), Duke (only win Charlotte) and Syracuse (one win team that lost to Liberty). Even Ash might’ve won at least 2 of those 3
BCU is a non factor for Rutgers. If GS can’t elevate the program past them, there is no way we are going to compete with our conference mates.
Hafley can do a nice job AND we can win.
The point is - the lead in for this thread was “hats off to Hatley” following the Illinois loss for his “not too shabby” 5-4 record. It was subtly presented in almost a “what could’ve been” light from someone who had hoped he would be hired as the HC

lol a lot of sensitivity in this thread. I see nothing wrong with acknowledging Hafley's mild success on the field and in recruiting. We will have to battle him for some recruits for sure. Also, BC lost their AJ Dillon who was like 60% of their offense and Brown. Could have been a bad year for them but he got them to .500. Pretty solid job.
It was the timing of the initial post, right after our tough loss to the Illini. It was obviously meant to inflame. If you don't see anything wrong with that, I suspect you are a little slow on the uptake son.
Why would you suspect anything? You are very defensive for no reason. It doesnt bother me that former players and coaches have success. Thats like hoping your ex wife never finds love again because it makes you feel better thats she's miserable.
I didn't suspect anything. It was clear as day. It was a flame. Cali did it on purpose the day after our loss and has been as clear as day that he didn't want Schiano back. I couldn't care less if former players or coaches have success, in most cases I'm happy with it. False equivalence to hoping an ex doesn't find love but keep watching your soap operas fancy boy. I was one of the few who wanted GS to succeed at Tampa Bay. He brought RU football back to relevance. He got his NFL opportunity, after rejecting overtures from big time schools like Michigan and staying at RU. Same with Tom Savage after he left. Hafley was here a very short period of time (2011) before leaving with GS. He helped put together a strong recruiting class while here. I hope he does well at BC but stays out of NJ. Just don't post what a great job he's doing the day of our loss to Illinois.

Not only do you need to go out and recruit at a respectable level, you need to hope that they develop and make you look good.
Think about a guy like Coach Sumlin at A&M.
Got hired by A&M after having a 13-1 year with Case Keenum and Kliff Kingsbury as his OC.
Then he gets gifted a player like Manziel and Mike Evans at WR.
Now he doesn’t have a job.
I watched a few Texas games and they can score points mostly about 30 pts a game but they cant stop the other team scoring 40-45 points a game. That what you get in the Big 12. "Only" 51-26/25-23 at the Aggies--Jimbo is doing marginally better.
But 9-20/6-17 at Arizona over 3 seasons probably deserves to be fired?
But back to premature celebrations of success of other coaches--it happens too frequently here.
Hafley should get another year, but think he loses his QB and Zay Flowers, which is a huge part of their offense. Would not surprise me if he is gone.
But I generally agree about the difficulty in building a consistent winner. Rich Rodriguez had a tough time at Michigan and then Arizona.
Wonder why some fans don't give Greg some latitude in year 3 where things are not terrible, but not fantastic either.

Because they have him as not a shiny head coach. Now surely Greg has his flaws. But this is so much similar to 2004-2005 ( without any bad ) We do need more of everything and winning does help. Also need to compete $$$$ NIL wise.
Look at Leipold at Kansas, while dealing with injuries they’ve lost 3 straight games. They’re 5-3 and it’s not unrealistic to say they might not make a bowl game.
Few weeks ago Leipold was God’s gift to the world, now we don’t hear a peep.
Greg’s rebuild is right on track, people are just acting like children because they’re impatient.
I'm not allowed to speak about Leipold's fall from grace, because I've been accused of being to harsh on the next Bear Bryant. I recognize he is a good coach, but let's pump the brakes on his being a "great coach." He was 2-10 in his first season. His first 5 wins were against a bunch of cupcakes (except Duke) (Houston and Iowa State suck this year), but we had fans asking why can't Greg measure up to LL's standards. Every situation is unique, and I think we agree, you have to look at the situation the HC inherited in terms of talent, the conference and the division they play in, as well as injuries. It is a bit difficult comparing the second year record of a Big 12 HC with that of third year B1G East coach.
Look at Mel Tucker. Wonder if those boosters have buyer's remorse? Too much, too soon, IMO.
They are Schiano haters , simple. Schiano is trying to build a sustainable program . Some coaches flash quickly and mortgage the future because they are looking for their next move and payday. That’s not the case here .
BC is a mess right now. Their leading rusher last week v Wake was their punter who took off on a fake punt run of 24 yards. Imagine them losing to UCONN this week?

FIU- 3-4 in Conference USA-
Plus BC beat a not great but not terrible Louisville.
BC should get the win. Hafley seems like a really good guy, just has a tough year with the OL and other things. Next year may be worse/tougher though.
That contract looked like a terrible idea the day it was signed IMO.
It was outlandish coming off of one good year in which Tucker was gifted the best running back in the country via the portal. He should be forever grateful to Kenneth Walker III.
Walker III is tearing it up in the NFL. Wondering how/why WFU did not recognize his talent and fit the offense to him, but it did not hurt them last year.

Seriously? Never heard of Runaway?
Don't know if this was the reference, but his life story is tragic- his career was on an upswing in 1989, but he took his own life.
