I think Indiana has passed us by

They are overall, a better team, and dare I say, coached?

It is what it is I guess.
This is fairly dramatic. They look good and they do score a lot but they beat the bottom ranked BIG teams plus MD at home.

On the flip side we "passed" WA who was in the National Championship last year so I guess that makes us National Champs right now.

Every year we'll se this program ( insert name) as one that passed Rutgers by.
Kansas was considered one of those last year along with Northwestern having some folks claiming
it passed Rutgers by.
Indiana has that distinction this year and based on short term , passing Rutgers by looks true and
it could wind up staying that way if Curt Cignetti proves as good as his past record shows at the 3 stops ( especially James Madison) he had before the Hoosiers hired him
But before we anoint Curt's program the winner of most improved, lets look long term and see how Indiana preforms the rest of this season and look at how it looks at the ed of next year compared to Rutgers .

Cignetti seems like the type that will have the Hoosiers a winner, but how big of one is the question!
Schiano looks like he's building a winner at Rutgers, the question is how big of one can he build?
We've been passed by many, many times on this board. Is it always the same guy saying it? I don't think so but it's quite the dramatic thing to do.

Wait a doggone second. A team in the B1G might be better than RU this year? This is just the kind of information that the internet was made for. Many thanks.
Unfortunately Indiana and cignetti took our spot in the national spotlight . We wanted to be in that place they are in . We messed up big time against Nebraska .

Indiana QB is a transfer in his final year of eligibility. Let’s see who they get next year before we talk about long term success. (And Who Indiana plays next year). The schedule makes a big difference.

Bingo. Their schedule was absurdly favorable this year. Let's see what happens when they don't have one of those covid year, 27 year old quarterbacks back there.

Congrats to IU
Cignetti is a solid hire and they have a pretty easy schedule this year

They will never be consistently good and our ceiling is much higher than theirs

They're a bball school (and lately, not a good one at that) in a state with little to no recruiting playing in front of a fanbase who's craving for the start of the season at Assembly Hall and thinking about the glory days w/Bobby Knight in their sleep

This topic is the Leipold has passed us by of this year.

Take a breath and wait for more than one year. What happens when all the transfers he KNEW are gone? Are they replaced with sufficient talent? Have they played a top opponent yet?

Good for Indiana having a great season so far, but if we take care of business the next two weeks, there isn't anyone on this Board that would not have taken a 6-1 record going into the USC game before this season began, come on now. We do that, we're Bowl eligible, and have 5 more games thereafter to really make this season special. Let's just worry about our team, and this season.

Let me get this straight, JMU is better than most of the B1G?!

Most of Cignetti's players were his starters over there. And, they were that good?! Or, more likely, IU has enjoyed an easy schedule, as many stated here. And, once the transfers graduate, we'll see how much luck Cignetti has.

Thanks. I didn’t realize all those things. I’ve put my tickets on Stub Hub. I hope someone will be stupid enough to buy them.

just stating what has happened to this point with indiana and the national spotlight and they are the current darlings out there. they are also ranked. you may want to pay more attention to college football .

Yes, again, thank you for clueing me into what’s going on in college football. Very helpful. I hope my tickets on stub hub sell, but I’m concerned that they might not because they aren’t the current darlings out there. It’s not acceptable at this point. They need to become darlings.

what a clown lol

For a transfer QB to have a substantial impact, he has to be in an offense that throws the ball and is imaginative scheme wise in that area. I sincerely hope that there's more to KC's playbook than I've seen.
The constraint on KC’s playbook is the HC’s risk tolerance. Up until the Nebraska game, I found KC’s playcalling to be brilliant.

Indiana is having a great year but “passed us by” as a program is saying a lot. They have no football tradition, get crowds for the last 10 years that are half the size of even our worst Ash crowds. They are a basketball school 1st 2nd and 3rd and even in that we own them. And their stadium is a dump in a grey parking lot, next to Assembly Hall which is also a dump with a nice lobby in the middle of a cold flat parking lot.

Welp, I think they answered that question about schedule. Excellent coach and scheme. Sorry to say, injuries aside, we have been passed by.

Take these things season to season and they’re having a great season.

Starting qb Rourke didn’t even play the second half after getting his hand hit in the 1st half. Tayven Jackson filled in and the defense did its job. Nebraska was a top 15 YPG and 6 YPP defense too.

Cignetti is a very good coach. One of the very best in the game. IU has blown past us. Bringing on a 5 star QB next year I believe.

Don't matter, RU FB being passed by isn't the problem !
The problem is : the team hasn't lived up to expectations , so far, this year and is looking like it will
be even more disappointing the rest of the season.
What Indiana looks like this season is good for Indiana fans and those RU fans that are looking for ways to put the RU FB program down don't need to use anything but the way Rutgers has been playing the last 3 games to point out Rutgers isn't doing very well
Some might enjoy the disappointment that brings, I just feel sad

Think the OP was definitely onto something with his post. -We are currently a distant speck in IU's rearview mirror. (Hurts to say that, but that's the reality of the situation.)

4 losses. Lol.
If rouke is healthy for the rest of the season, there is a very good chance they finish with 1 loss in the regular season.

They ain't losing more than 2. Mich/Wash/Nebraska all travel to Indiana. Michigan isn't beating them.
Indiana is fun to watch. Very good chance they will be in the college playoff. They DESTROYED Nebraska. No way Michigan beats them (if Rouke plays).

From Big Noon they said they have a 5 star who is committed to USC visiting for this game but that’s it.

Also said 90% of the roster are 0-3 stars out of high school.

44 players on the team were 0 stars out of high school

I read Rourke was only recruited by Vandy, BYU, WF when he entered the portal.

30 transfers taken (I thought it was 23), 13 from JMU.

Only 14 starters out of 40 stayed on the team. 37 players hit the portal. 3 returning starters and 14 transfers in their starting lineup against NW.

He brought in veteran players so next year, he'll have retooling to do if he's still there. But like I've said take it year to year and strike as hard as you can while the iron is hot because you don't know when the next opportunity will come. See TCU, Cincy etc..but those were great years for those schools.

I like rooting for underdog stories so I'm happy to see them win. But the solace you take in these stories is what I said.. Take things year to year. You can see turnarounds from year to year both in the negative and positive direction. NIL, portal and such make things like that possible if you find the right group of players for that particular year.
