Knowing this stubborn, groupthink administration... it may take everything we got as a fanbase to force a change.

Because if we get that dreaded alert on monday after the last game that Flood is retained, there won't be much we can do to make a stand.

Let's hope RU athletics is more proactive than we think.

Let's just stop. We don't fire coaches during the season & there's absolutely no benefit for us to do so here. We certainly aren't firing him after Nelson's injury, & we aren't going after any replacement that we need to fire immediately. Season ends in 2 weeks.

I agree with you most of the time, but there are multiple benefits. We're competing with a host of programs that are already on the hunt. Fire tomorrow, and these are the perks:

  • start fundraising for new hire immediately
  • get a new coach in sooner than later to help with recruiting
  • have more time to handle damage control with recruits before other new coaches are in place at various schools that compete with us for kids (i.e. maryland, miami, illinois, etc...)
  • be in the competitive market for the best coaches now
  • avoid an ugly game back home against maryland, in which the fanbase is eager to be heard
  • potentially get more fans out to the maryland game BECAUSE a change has been made.
  • under interim leadership, maybe some new faces appear on depth chart for last 2 games, such as rettig to see what we're working with for next year
  • immediately put to rest the angry fan mentality that will only get worse
hmm, i guess no benefits?

No, not really. What would hurt is if we take a month following the season to make a decision for him to stay or go. No coach we would want is going to be available until January, late December at the best. They will be busy coaching.

Angry fans? Our fans are not influential enough (read: don't give enough money) to have much say in what happens.

Two weeks will be here soon enough. Plenty of time to clamor for action then.

The AD fundraises while we still have a coach & likely has been for weeks or months. Same with looking for a replacement. See 2013.

No coach at a current school will be hired until after the season in 2 or 3 weeks & most won't interview until then anyway so there's no benefit unless you want to try to lockup an unemployed coach, which you can do anyway with your current coach still employed & you hold off on the recruits from jumping ship when you can hire a replacement almost immediately after firing the current coach.

We won't be in the same stratosphere as most other programs in terms of candidates like Herman so there's no benefit to an early firing. You fire after u have the replacement locked up.

Also, a change won't bring out more fans to MD. Out fans suck because they're too fairweather. I support the team & school win or lose. It's my alma mater & I bleed scarlet. I am a Scarlet Knight. I've been to 8 of our 10 games this season.

Wish I could be confident in that last statement! Otherwise, agree completely. What happens from two weeks from now until two months from now will basically determine the JH legacy at RU. Hope we are smart.

Yeah man, you destroyed your entire argument by attacking the fans. Being a great fan does not mean shilling out your money and time 'just because' - those fans are sheep.

Great fans support the program, and give it time, but know when to step in. We're way past that point.

Personally, I'm fine with us waiting 2 weeks. There's only 2 games - who cares. But there are benefits, and the intention of my original post was more about RU athletics making a STATEMENT to avoid further embarassment, because if it isn't made and because we know RU admin is stuck in the mud... Maryland is going to serve as a last chance for our fanbase to wake them up.

If there's anything Rutgers could learn, is when to make a move to avoid more bad press.

Most of these "fans" that didn't show up already paid for their tix or get free tix. I didn't kill anything. Many of our fans, especially students who live on campus, are fairweather fans that will only support when we win. That's not a fan. It was military appreciation day & the students couldn't bother to come, like many others. This is unacceptable & a crappy pro sports mentality. I'm tired of the faux support.

i agree with you there, but most of us here are diehards. We'd go no matter what. Only a few select fanbases don't have a high concentration of fairweather fans... it's the norm everywhere. I mean have you ever seen an ACC game? Those things look like a wasteland compared to our showings lately. But once again, this isn't a fan issue - you can't expect your average fan to support a team that got absolutely obliterated 3 weeks in a row. you just can't.

I hear you but we need more support when the team is down, especially from those that already paid or get free tickets. It isn't hard to get to the game when you already have tickets. If I could, I'd go to all 12+ games.

I thought about this.

I think booing, chants, signs, etc. is a terrible idea and shows the world that we are classess. Plus as Leonard said the team needs us to cheer for them.

But....

If you don't wear red to the game as a protest, you can cheer for the team, be loud and show that we are a good fanbase while sending the message. So I say we shouldn't wear red.
