If Rutgers beats Washington...

A RU win really kills Washingtons ranking.... No way should a top anything team lose as a 27. Point favorite at home

IF RU went 4-0 as discussed above, we would start getting some top 30 votes, one would think

Should we win, Washington would drop out of the Top 25 and Rutgers would not receive any votes.

If, over the next two weeks, we both win comfortably, and Washington is 2-1 and we are 3-0, we'd probably enter the receiving votes category.

From our perceived starting point, there's no way we'll sniff the Top 25 without a 4-0 start.

Great, here we are a 6-0 with wins over Washington, OSU & Michigan. Every P5 school looking for a coach is going to be banging down Ash's door.

With Howard and the Lobos after the Huskies, can't see pollsters jumping on RU's bandwagon after beating Washington, unless win is a blowout.
But a win over Iowa will get RU in the top 25 if Iowa has looked good against the teams they faced and come in 3-0.
Howard won't help gain Rutgers respect, expected to blow them out and close game will hurt.
New Mexico is gaining some respect under Davie, but winning a close game will not help RU one bit in the respect department. RU must play well while making the Lobos look overmatched.
All signs point to how the Scarlet Knights do against the Hawkeyes in order to even think about a possible top 25 spot and Iowa needs to come to Jersey looking good for that to happen.

I am excited though going to the Mariners/Angels game later that night with my cousin and his wife they Liv out there. Going to see Mike Trout so it will be an excellent day especially if we find a way to beat them. I know this if it's a blowout it will raise questions on can this staff get it done if it's real close answer will be yes.

so you and I basically agree.... the 4th win is Iowa, in my opinion a 4-0 record, meaning beating 2 respected teams, gets us top 30

I think a more pertinent question is, if we beat Washington, how long would it take certain posters to completely dissociate the win from Laviano?
Me for one because I am consistent. It takes 40 players to win a ballgame. QB is very important but if we win this game then a lot of guys are doing their job well.

To your point, some will still find flaws in CL's game no matter what. We saw that with Nova many times over. Both games against Arkansas come to mind.

Jeez, now we're beating Iowa, not saying we ain't, but that's just way cart before horse.

Eternal optimism is a wonderful but I'm with you. I'd be very happy with the expected 2-2. 4-0? We're playing TWO top-20 ranked teams in those first 4 games. I'm just hoping for 2 games in which we "belong" somewhat and don't get beat down instead. Just a little progress my friends.

I personally find the love fest for Washington over the top as well. They are a very good team. In regards to Iowa, they proved their worth. They were rewarded as to the results of a great season. Putting them in pre season top 10 is very different than one game in which many will consider a fluke. If and that's a HUGE "if" we win all analysts have a slew of excuses and will still not put us into Top 25 consideration. You all get too emotional about this stuff and unrealistic.

I do hope we win however, i think we have a fighting shot in almost every game sans a few.
Iowa got pumped in the Rose Bowl like a cheap hooker. They were exposed.

Thought it was an " If" RU beats Washington , Howard , New Mexico and Iowa to start off 4-0 that should be good enough for a top 10 ranking.
Why challenge an if, didn't look like when RU beats was said , so poster wasn't saying RU wlll beat Washington, Iowa or any of the schools he mentioned.
Only pointed out "if" RU beats those schools a 4-0 record should bring in a top 25 ranking.

Guess looking at something, unlikely to happen, in a positive light deserves to be challenged because a negative is expected.

Having been a fan for 35 years, the realist in me says we would be Washington and lose to Howard the next week, thereby killing any positive press we had gained from the win.

You mean like winning at Michigan State, losing at the Meadowlands to a bad Vanderbilt team and then winning at Penn State in consecutive weeks? You mean like that? Or beating Tennessee and throwing a huge scare into Alabama to be followed by debacles against William & Mary and Villanova? Like those?

It's not the "realist" as much as it is being beaten down by a lot of history making it hard to see the glass as anything other than half-empty -- and shattered, with the broken glass severing an artery in your wrist. But we're all still here.

Anyway, the answer is "No." It will get a lot of attention, but Washington is seen by some as too "trendy" of a ranked team, and many people are waiting to point at the Huskies and say, "I told you they weren't that good."

That being said, rankings don't mean crap. Win your games and the rest takes care of itself. The annual "if we do this, will we get ranked?" threads are kind of tedious.

What is it about beating Michigan State that brings out the worst in us the following week? Still shaking my head over losing to New Hampshire...

Some of you need to look at New Hampshire a little closer. UNH wasn't some body bag game. The year they knocked Rutgers off, they had a great team. UNH was 11-2 who could have beat a few FBS schools that year. UNH was a playoff team with losses to William & Mary (11-2) and Montana (12-3 lost in the FCS Championship game) that year. Rutgers wasn't there yet as far as taking care of business against FCS opponents. At the stage of the program Rutgers wasn't able to sustain success for several reasons starting with depth and ending with mindset.
