Indiana is really developing into a rivalry…

The Indiana board posted a video clip a couple of days before the game of Geo on some podcast saying that nobody is afraid of Indiana any longer. He wasn't being a douche about it, just that the level of play in the B1G and the number of players returning to various programs doesn't have people in awe of them any longer.

They don't like Geo. Or Ronnie. Or Rutgers. It's on.

The series has to be competitive for it to be a true rivalry. Right now Indiana is just our whipping boy

My buddy is an Illinois fan and texted me to congratulate me on the win over Indiana. Among other things I texted him that we have a streak of six straight wins over them. His response: "That's not a streak, that's a tradition." Love that reply!

Rivalries are supposed to be competitive though. They're like an automatic win for us.
Meh. There are plenty of collegiate rivalries that aren’t competitive in the big sports for decades at a time. Rivalries can be born out of different things and we are kicking this state’s ass in most sports so I’ll take it lol!

…. In Basketball. The games have been very competitive and have been really chippy.

Yes we are 8 of the last 9 but the harper buzzer beater and dropping his nvt$ on assembly hall, you could really feel the chippyness yesterday. You can tell the players do NOT feel very fondly of eachother
Doesn’t a rivalry require both teams to go back and forth in wins/close games? This is like saying Ohio state vs RU football is a rivalry since we haven’t beat them for years.

Thats why I said developing. Not there yet obviously but if these games keep going like this and the back and forth, comments from the likes of Geo itll continue to trend that aay

I finally watched that clip and I freakin’ love Geo for saying that! He wasn’t being arrogant and he’s right - they haven’t finished in the top half of the league for awhile. They have also underachieved relative to their recruiting and coaching hires.

Exactly. He’s not a current player just sharing his experience. In his career we dominated them so why shouldn’t he feel that way?

Yup. And how long have we wanted all of our teams to change their mindset, not be intimidated by the names on the front of a Jersey and believe we can win? Pike has built that with recruits like Geo, Ron, Caleb, etc.

Yep. That’s a big step. Pikes demeanor helps I think. We’re very lucky.

Similar to Michigan in football, Indiana at the Garden was our first moment in basketball where we said “hello Big Ten, we have arrived” .. we will always have that and so it’s been sweet to continue ti beat their butts. Indiana was the worst team in the Big Ten in many sports I feel like before we joined, especially football (besides maybe Northwestern) .. it doesn’t surprise me we are owning them. We are a better program. I am surprised we have had struggles with NW.

It really isn't just basketball, though. We've won the last two in football and we're 4-5 against them, with wild games each way. We also beat them in men's soccer for the B1G Championship this year.

Plus we've never lost to Purdue in football, 4-5 against them since the start of 2020. So, we basically punish the entire state of Indiana for that one IU blogger's impudence.
