Is it possible that Hobbs already knows who he's bringing in?

Hawk said last week that Sendek was highly interested in the job and had already began putting a staff together in case he got the job. Firing EJ about 14 hours after the season ends makes me think he already knows his next move, while it may not be Sendek but possibly someone else.

God I hope not. I think Men's hoops deserves as much consideration and due-diligence as that went in to hiring Ash.
No reason that level of due diligence couldn't be taking place during the season. Hobbs can work with coaches' agents to determine level of interest, ballpark salary demands, staffing plans, etc and work out the details later on. There isn't a reason to rush so if we were to get a Sendek announcement next week, there's no reason to believe he wasn't either his top choice outright or his top choice remaining after moving on from other candidates who weren't interested.

Sure it is possible. Maybe likely.
But Mulcahy thought he had Jay Wright locked up. Plans don't always come to fruition.

The thing about that is: Hobbs wasn't officially on the job when Flood was fired. If he had been he might've already been doing that diligence leading up to the firing, just as he may have already done so in this case.

If he has Sendek at the top of his list then no reason this can't get done quickly. If he wants to speak to someone still involved in the tournament then he may need to wait. He needs to separate those who are truly interested versus those who might use us as leverage to improve their current situation.

In my opinion Mulcahy gave out long extensions to coaches who did not deserve them.

OK, not sure what that has to do with hiring new coaches.

Mulcahy also tried to hire Beilein who turned us down flat for WVU. It's one thing to know who you'd like to hire, it's another thing to actually get them is the point.

I'm sure it will be just like football...an outside advisory firm will be hired and the proper due diligence will be performed... Very exciting!!

Should ask BK. He was sitting right next to him chatting when the B1G TV zoomed in. :eyes:

PS...they way the team played...far worse than normal from a focus standpoint. Especially Corey I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't know pre-game this was a done deal as soon as the game was lost and tourney over for RU.

Living in Pac 12 land and having watched Sendek's ASU teams, I don't get this board's infatuation with Herb. Yes, he's a decent coach, but nothing I saw in his ASU teams makes me think he's our man.

How about making the tourney twice in the shadow of Arizona and UCLA. Recruiting James Harden? 20 + wins on three other occassions and getting fired for going 18-16 and making the NIT?

What miracle worker do you expect Rutgers to get with limited resources and no track record of recent success?Sendek has coached in two high profile leagues and knows what is needed to successfully compete. The issue of recruiting has been the biggest stumbling block in Rutgers dismal basketball record.

Short answer: yes. Hobbs has been doing his due diligence all along. And when it was clear that EJ wasn't getting it done, Hobbs obviously understood when had to be done based on extensions and recruiting. Good AD's always keep their eyes and ears open to coaching potentials. Now, with that said, let's all hope that Hobbs can land us the RIGHT kind of coach we have desperately needed since Wenzel took us to the NCAA's.

Beilein stayed at Richmond instead of coming to Rutgers - he took the WVU job a year or two later

Because we'd love to have a decent coach. Nothing against Eddie, who had success at a higher level, but it's been 10 years since we've had a decent coach.

I've said it before - Hobbs (not Hermann) has been planning this next hire for a long time.

take out the tourney and replace with Douby and it sounds like Gary Waters...

The key word above is "decent". We haven't had a decent coach in MBB in a long time. Sendek would be a huge upgrade.
