Is there anyone left that disagrees with me on the fact we dont run an offense?

The reason for argument here is that we DO run an offense. We are just not executing properly. With the ball in Caleb or Mulcahy's hands we dribble way too much instead of moving the ball which ALLOWS the defense to recover so much quicker. That is why players like Spencer are never open. We rely so much on the pick n roll which works well if they execute around the 3pt line but there is a major difference these days when PM is running it versus SImpson. Simpson is looking to go to the basket or create an open shot. PM is not. plain and simple it is much easier to double Cliff off that and since they are clogging the lane anyway no reason for a defender to come off their man(Spencer) for help.
This is not rocket science by any means but certain PLAYERS are not helping us in execution.

Go back and watch the PSU game and you will see much more effectiveness in our offense because we pushed it in half court, moving the ball, and being aggressive especially going TOWARDS the basket.

If there is one thing Pike should try and correct is just making the offense more up tempo and one that should be told to attack the rim as if they are in transition. If I see CM/PM dribbling at the top of the key I know it is a wasted possession. If I see CM/AH shoot a 15ft jumper early in the shot clock which is not a great shot selection I know from that point on our offense will stall. This is first on coaching(not for offensive sets) and second on player execution/mentality.
If PM, will not look to score or create on offense then he needs to be pulled--plain and simple
Pretty sure Kyk was also posting during the PSU game about us not running an offense

From what I understand our asst coach who
worked with the offense, left last year and Pike
never bothered to replace him. Didn't,
'think it was necessary.
Our entire coaching staff is the same as last year so this is false

No. Why have a coach at all ? They don’t score points. Well conceived offense generates good shots. Most of our shots are last second prayers.

This is how Pike shortens the game intentionally to compensate for not having talented offensive players.
What was the offense we ran with Quincy Douby? Scorers put the ball in the basket. We don't have any pure scorers nor have we had any under Pike. RHJ was the closest and even he was too streaky to be considered a reliable scorer.

Guys get plenty of good looks with the sets we run. They just don't make shots consistently enough or don't finish at the rim. That's a talent/confidence issue, not an offense issue. And I'm not a blind defender of Pike...I like him but he still does some head scratching things to me (i.e. not using his final TO at the end of the Minnesota game).

the true question is what is the Rutgers basketball offense identity under Pike?
is there one?
certainly does not look there is one.

You win some you lose some 10 up 10 down end of the regular season in conference slate. We have an opportunity to get well fast just need to execute And Finish by putting the ball in the basket.

For perspective, in the 8 games since MSG, here's a look at our average offensive stats and where those rank nationally in that timeframe (Not for those with a weak stomach):

Points/game: 60.1 (T-349th)
FG pct: 40.7% (331st)
3-pt FG pct: 31.3% (319th)
FT pct: 58.5% (352nd - Last)

This is a complete and total systems failure on offense. Quite frankly, it's a miracle they won 2 of those 8 games with these numbers.

it’s because we don’t run repeatable offense or counter actions when teams take away our first option . First options are easily scouted and schemed for but what do you do after they take this away. We have no counters and become stagnant and hold the ball. Then it results in one on one plays and we don’t have those players right now as we did in past years. Not having multiple set plays to get Cam open or him being a screener is a sin. If they are going to not leave our best shooter you have to use this to your advantage and use him as a screener to free up others , especially going to the basket. Personnel wise it’s easy to figure out why we can’t score

1. we don’t have a guy yon can throw it into to make a post move and or make a solid pass when he’s doubled .Cliff is still a work in progress in the post and is not a good passer out of the post. Watch when we double Hunter of thursday and watch the difference in his decisions and executions .
2. besides cam we have no reliable shooters the d has to respect which clogs driving lanes
3) we don’t have anyone minus derek that can get to the rim and beat his defender either creating a shot for himself or someone else
4) we don’t have a big who can pass or dribble and initiate offense from the top of the key. Even TJD who’s not a shooter can initiate offense from this spot and flow into dribble handoffs and be a passer while the wings move and cut. Watch Hunter when we play them on Thursday. Having a skilled big man that can handle and pass makes a big difference.

Combine all of these things together and it’s a miracle we score at all.
These are all things that good NBA teams do, yet the NBA is reviled by many on these boards.

That's because the NBA has molded itself into a league where winning basketball is uninteresting, boring basketball (for what it's worth, so has MLB). However, it's still winning basketball. You can dislike a particular sport's rules (or officiating philosophy) and still think you should do the boring things necessary to win at that sport.

All of that said, I am adamant that if a kid cannot consistently make three-point shots, he shouldn't shoot any of them.

He doesn’t run an offense but it can still work with the right talent. If you have a guard who can create his own shot and some shooters, it’s all you need.

Issue this year is total lack of offensive talent. Name one guy on this team that is truly talented offensively? Can’t even say Cam given his physical limitations.
Cam clearly has offensive talent.
