Jarrod Hewitt decommits

+1
Wow, this was such a bad hire. So short sighted.

I was ok with it at the time but as soon as it started heading South a couple of years ago...and with inclusion into the B1G, it was time to cut the cord.
Rutgers never learns any lessons from the past. The warning signs were there with Hill and Rice too. We need an "all out disaster" to even react, and when it does, we repeat the same process of hiring an inferior coach. Since Flood is still here, we haven't hit bottom yet.....lather...rinse...repeat.

A 16 year old kid changes mind 5 months before NLOI Day and it's front page news on nj.crap.

If some of you don't see how you're being manipulated, not sure what to tell you.

The way it typically works at every school is as follows: When they de-commit, they're gone.

Agree, that really is the way things work the great majority of the time, unfortunately.

There's always the rare exception, of course. But 99.99% of the time if a kid de-commits, regardless of what's said about the player's former choice still being in the running, it's pretty much "hasta la vista, baby" as far as that prospect goes.

Its getting intolerable....rule changes need to be put in place....kids words are as worthless as cheap toilet paper and schools are becoming like sleazy car salesman....what happened to honor. I've had it with this shit...lucky he's not my kid. Part of this IMO is on our staff too. What really T's me off is I came looking for a 2 star D-line commit only to find this....better not be VT who flipped him
Just like when coaches up and leave at the most inopportune time... like... Schiano did back in the day?

Were you saying that he was lucky that he's not your kid or that you're lucky he's not your kid? Because that's key to understanding your level of outrage.

Father's comments are interesting, and -- undoubtedly -- rife for all sorts of wild interpretation: "But again, Rutgers is not out of it. They've just got some cleaning to do." I'd be curious what sort of "cleaning" he thinks needs to happen.

there are only be two types of situations where someone would sign in an early period. otherwise it is just stupid for a recruit to sign:
(1) you are a borderline recruit who can get recruited over or (2) it is your dream school and you have no reason to look around.
so under (1), borderline recruits with mac and d1aa offers will lock in rutgers, while those with other offers to p5 schools will be patient. and maybe under (2) we will get 1-2 guys who dreamed about rutgers - like a kevin malast or a ted field, but dream school is more for the michigans, texas, ohio states, alabamas of the world - where regardless of the coach, the school is still the school. we are not there yet.
early signing period will not fix anything.
... speaking of which, is Marques Ford red-shirting? I can't find a single 2015 stat for him.

The first of many I'm sure. Look at what happened in 2013. Keeping Flood is paying dividends...for our opponents...

Still wish we lost the USF game in 2013. That "win" kept us in purgatory for the past 2 seasons.

Fwiw, anothere commit's father says that Hewitt is still in play for RU. He is far from a lock to VT yet.

Panagos is going to see him.

He's a douche bag that bashes everything RU, players, coaches, admins and recruits. We don't need people like this supporting the program.
First off I have never bashed a recruit. Ever. I don't follow or comment on them for the most part. Actually think some that do are creepy.
Second I'm a 30 year season ticket holder and a much bigger supporter than you will ever be.
I'm entitled to my opinion and so are you but you should be banned for this post. I'm tired of clowns like you who do nothing for the program but spew this nonsense. You are a complete liar. If you have a problem with me put me on ignore. You have come out of nowhere again just to attack me. Hopefully John will sit you down for a day or two to cool your jets.

I'm down here in Venice. Heading over to the local Subway now, will let you know what I hear when I return.

And those contracts contain specific penalty clauses for early termination ("buyouts").

Good false equivalency.
i don't think you understand what a false equivalency is. coaches walk away from signed contracts with buyout clauses - great, they are able/willing to do so. part of the game.

high school students (usually they are still legally children) don't sign anything. if they are able/willing to walk away and look out for their own interests, why not? that's their prerogative. no contracts, no buyout clauses, nothing holding them back. more power to them.

i'd decommit from rutgers after this bullshit too. a coach that commits academic fraud while explicitly stating in writing how he is trying to skirt the rules - for a student athlete with an ongoing police investigation. a no-show AD. a president that suspends the coach for 3 games but leaves him on staff, effectively neutering him.

top it all off with half the fanbase (or more?) thinking we should "stay the course"... unbelievable.

VM, you may have a future with the star liar. No academic fraud was committed. Flood foolishly and knowingly violated policy by contacting a professor in order for a player to perform extra credit to make a grade, but the system properly stopped his efforts and he was disciplined. Flood nor anyone else had knowledge of the criminal charges when he made the outreach to the professor so this comment is disingenuous. The AD swipe is baseless without examples of what she failed to do, and keep in mind most don't comment on active investigations. The suspension in my mind was to not not hurt the program or the student athletes, it is out of the ordinary so there is an opportunity to bitch if you are looking but it seems ok to me.

CFB is a minor league for NFL so if a player is accepting a football scholarship for a conference, he should be put in a pool to be drafted by the teams in that conference.
This would get rid of all the nonsense with recruiting which is a big waste of time unless you are bringing in players that are not going to be drafted like the NFL.

1) what flood did was quite literally the definition of academic fraud: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/fraud

2) i didn't say he had knowledge of "criminal charges" - i said he had knowledge of an ongoing police investigation. what kind of utter moron does one have to be to knowingly and willfully break school policy for someone being who has been the subject of a months-long police investigation? even without knowing the outcome, before any charges were filed, an investigation that started during the spring semester is likely going to bear some fruit if they still have it going several months later.

3) "baseless without examples" is rich. where are the examples of her leadership or even stewardship through this crisis? describing her as a leader would be truly baseless. and this is coming from someone who was a fan! all the previous hand-wringing was totally uncalled for. now it is justified. i called her a no-show. that is not a swipe - that is a statement of fact.

4) of course the suspension wasn't intentionally levied to hurt the program. the fact of the matter: it is hurting the program anyway. how can we keep this guy on after he tries to lie and cheat his way into barnwell's eligibility? un-****ing-real. what are you even doing arguing for him? i legitimately don't understand it.

TOS notes this was expected for awhile being that he set up a Va Tech visit before all the crap started. Stop the drama queen act NJ!

It was not fraud.

I made it official this morning but I called Coach Panagos last night and told him," Hewitt told 247Sports.

"With all the issues going on there it had me concerned. I just wanted to open up my options again and really be sure to where I want to spend the next four to five years of my life."

Fraud? How so?

And while you are trying to rationalize that charge, tell us how you got a degree when you do not understand the meaning of the word "fraud".
i posted a link to the dictionary definition of fraud. you even quoted it. try clicking that link and maybe then you'll understand.

or you can continue talking about my degree, as if that has any relevance to the discussion. there's a term for that type of discourse too.

Wait so if Flood was not caught....it would not have been fraud?

The straw grasping....it really is amazing.

With what people do for Flood, what would they do if a coach who could beat winning teams committed fraud?

Did you scroll up to the definition of fraud....it is fraud...it was a total attempt to deceieve the school into accepting grades it didn't have to....

Please with this....we were a school that stuck up for doing things the right way....why must we lose and do them wrong....I really cannot wrap my head around it

You said Flood committed academic fraud. Flood doesn't even have the ability. A student can by cheating. A professor can by giving an unearned grade. An administrator can alter a grade. He was open with the professor with what he was trying to do, have the student athlete have the opportunity to ear extra credit. He didn't just ask for a grade change. No change to the grade occurred, the system worked, no academic fraud committed.

It was my understanding Flood did not know of the criminal investigation until the arrests. If you can provide info that he knew about Barnewll being investigated while still actively seeking a grade change for him then I'll concede this point.

What did you want JH to do that she did not? Comment on active investigations? Comment on the Flood issue when the President had taken the lead and issued a public statement?

I am not happy with all the problems that have occurred recently but I will not alter the truth toward the negative and will call out those that do. Flood showed very poor judgement over the grade issue and I don't think anyone would disagree. I lost a lot of respect for his football IQ during the VT bowl game, and then at times again thereafter. I take no pleasure in anyone getting fired but if If he is canned this year I will not feel he was screwed.

Yes it does!! He was asking for a grade to be changed when it was after that possibility. My word some of you think this is a minor offense. He should have been fired!
