Jason Baum hired as Red Bulls PR guy

IYO, lateral move??? Mine, step down, but what you gonna do when you get canned. BTW, he's an unapologetic fan/alum of WVU now.

I thought all your posts had pics?

Very happy for Mr. Baum who worked hard, competently and successfully for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Much success to him in this new role and any other in the future. He certainly engendered good feelings of professionalism from RU's coaches and players within the locker room and from outside of it. Best of success to him with the Red Bulls.

Looks like all he was getting was his salary for 3 months and $1500 a month for health benefits. If he had another job offer he would have taken it and foregone the severance. Lets not pretend like he struck it rich with the severance.

Good for him he it worked out timing wise.

Pretty much this.

Also, the use of the word "unfortunate" in the OP is unnecessary and uninformed editorialization.

What was so "fortunate" about him being let go? Anytime someone gets let go or laid off, I think "unfortunate" can always applies.

Too many people here consider themselves some kind of insider.

I'm a nobody and don't pretend otherwise.

That's fine. Didn't say you couldn't. Just wondering what made it "unfortunate"?

Jeez, I'm all confused, Shill. Sorry. I'm on your side. My question was to those saying the ouster was "fortunate."

I guess Bac answered it below it, but is there any proof he was a leak, or is it just "uninformed editoralization." ?

It seems like you're defending Julie's decision..hence defending Julie, no?

Either way, lots of people feel it was a bad decision..and like I said, it always unfortunate to me to see someone lose their job. Especially someone as respected as JBaum.

Nobody knows about the leak thing for sure. There are plenty of stories flying around and plenty of candidates vying for that title. He did a good job here. I think no matter which side of the fence you're on, you have to acknowledge that.

Huh? The media members have ZERO obligation to speak out about his firing. Not sure where "of course they would" came from. If he wasn't good at his job..the people he worked directly for/with wouldn't have an issue with the firing.

I know how you and some others on this board feel about the media (Julie included)..but that's neither here nor there. Fact is everyone who worked with Baum considered him a great asset, which makes it unfortunate to alot of Rutgers fans.

I dunno Bac. I have been in some political environments where if they don't like you, they don't like you and that's it. It's not uncommon for people to come in, clean house and bring in their own people. Some of it happens naturally when people leave, sometimes it's more difficult when contracts are involved. We wish him well and move on. I think the new hire was a good choice anyway.

Proud,
I can't say I am a big soccer fan,but I just call the teams New Jersey Red Bulls,New Jersey Giants, and New Jersey Jets. I used to do the same thing with the New Jersey Cosmos. There used to be a little department store on Route 206 in Stanhope/Byram that sold lots of New Jersey Giants stuff.

Couldn't disagree more. This happens all the time in sports. New GM's want their own coach. New owners want their own GMs. New ADs want their own people.

Julie wanted a change..wanted her own guy...and so she got rid of him. Nothing wrong with that, but unfortunate for Baum.

Again, unless I'm missing something, him "not following the company line" is just pure internet speculation until proven by someone, anyone.

Perhaps he was the one funneling information to the media that shouldn't be shared (like the crass joke about reaching out to donors in a Sandusky way) and the media was upset that their source was gone. You're right that they had no obligation to him, but the problem very well could have been how close he had become to the media.

You're right. Perhaps thats true. But that's also "unnecessary and uninformed editorialization"...which is how this whole thing started.

It's all part of the conspiracy. I read on the Deep Web that Baum may have had footage of the plane that hit the Pentagon.

But seriously, folks...

His work was merely adequate, at best. It wasn't actually *good*.

Schiano not bringing JB to Tampa tells you all you need to know about Baum. Schiano took the Deputy Athletic Director & even took his Secretary who worked for RU for 20+ years with him.

You think Schiano had a say in who to bring into the front office? PR/Communications is more of a front office job than a coaching job. Doubt he had much say in that, but who knows.

Everyone with the axes to grind needs to put them in storage. We'll never agree on this one and it doesn't matter anymore.

Now that is funny.... This board would be full of blank pages if it weren't for unnecessary and uniformed editorialization.
