Good to see JB land on his feet so fast after his unfortunate ouster here. He'll do a nice job with that outfit.

Rutgers agreed to pay former athletics communications director Jason Baum more than $33K in severance package

Looks like all he was getting was his salary for 3 months and $1500 a month for health benefits. If he had another job offer he would have taken it and foregone the severance. Lets not pretend like he struck it rich with the severance.Originally posted by Knight_Light:

What was so "fortunate" about him being let go? Anytime someone gets let go or laid off, I think "unfortunate" can always applies.Originally posted by RU4Real:

Also, the use of the word "unfortunate" in the OP is unnecessary and uninformed editorialization.
That's fine. Didn't say you couldn't. Just wondering what made it "unfortunate"?Originally posted by Local Shill:

Too many people here consider themselves some kind of insider.
I'm a nobody and don't pretend otherwise.

It seems like you're defending Julie's decision..hence defending Julie, no?Originally posted by bac2therac:

Nobody knows about the leak thing for sure. There are plenty of stories flying around and plenty of candidates vying for that title. He did a good job here. I think no matter which side of the fence you're on, you have to acknowledge that.
Well that's just a lie.Originally posted by Local Shill:

Huh? The media members have ZERO obligation to speak out about his firing. Not sure where "of course they would" came from. If he wasn't good at his job..the people he worked directly for/with wouldn't have an issue with the firing.Originally posted by bac2therac:
Lol...who felt it was a bad decision? Media members on twitter...of course they would...too bad
I dunno Bac. I have been in some political environments where if they don't like you, they don't like you and that's it. It's not uncommon for people to come in, clean house and bring in their own people. Some of it happens naturally when people leave, sometimes it's more difficult when contracts are involved. We wish him well and move on. I think the new hire was a good choice anyway.Originally posted by bac2therac:
He did a good job but you are not forced out willingly without good reason
Couldn't disagree more. This happens all the time in sports. New GM's want their own coach. New owners want their own GMs. New ADs want their own people.Originally posted by bac2therac:

Again, unless I'm missing something, him "not following the company line" is just pure internet speculation until proven by someone, anyone.Originally posted by bac2therac:
Being good at your job and not following the company line are 2 different things...the latter will get you ousted
Perhaps he was the one funneling information to the media that shouldn't be shared (like the crass joke about reaching out to donors in a Sandusky way) and the media was upset that their source was gone. You're right that they had no obligation to him, but the problem very well could have been how close he had become to the media.Originally posted by mikemarc1:

Proud,
I can't say I am a big soccer fan,but I just call the teams New Jersey Red Bulls,New Jersey Giants, and New Jersey Jets. I used to do the same thing with the New Jersey Cosmos. There used to be a little department store on Route 206 in Stanhope/Byram that sold lots of New Jersey Giants stuff.
You're right. Perhaps thats true. But that's also "unnecessary and uninformed editorialization"...which is how this whole thing started.Originally posted by RUseaweed:

It's all part of the conspiracy. I read on the Deep Web that Baum may have had footage of the plane that hit the Pentagon.Originally posted by RutgersROB:

You think Schiano had a say in who to bring into the front office? PR/Communications is more of a front office job than a coaching job. Doubt he had much say in that, but who knows.Originally posted by TRU2RU:
Schiano not bringing JB to Tampa tells you all you need to know about Baum. Schiano took the Deputy Athletic Director & even took his Secretary who worked for RU for 20+ years with him.
Now that is funny.... This board would be full of blank pages if it weren't for unnecessary and uniformed editorialization.Originally posted by RU4Real:
