Just sharing

maybe RU releasing info to smoke out the leaks...just a thought

but...good stuff waveslider...keep it coming...hope one of these big names comes to pass.

----
all I was trying to suggest is that not to make it sound like a done deal in the future, in any shape or form... As not to have future back lash

You actually have to re read what I wrote first.... It was innocent enough
I don't think you're a moron. So I wasn't talking about you.

Exactly, RUTG44! ^^^

All slider is saying is that he heard we reached out to these guys. Others confirming that. Doesn't mean we'll get them, or even that they'll give us the time of day, but hell, I'm happy to hear it.
As Hawk said RU is acting big time.

What is big time about going after big names but getting shot down?
----
There is only so much you can do..... Look at Houston..... Latched onto a very good coach, doubled his salary, doing all they could to better their program....yet it might not be enough to keep him

In our case we offer the most we can to the best candidates we can.... You do what ever is possible

This was not the RU way before

What is big time about going after big names but getting shot down?
  • the first step is not being afraid to fail.
  • another is having the bananas needed to get the other person to answer the phone.
  • the act of Rutgers trying to go this big is a value in itself. Maybe the first step in a culture change and the word will get out.
  • Shot Down is what Rutgers used to get. Maybe now we just aren't first choice.

I would guess that a big time coach would bring in about $1.5M in additional ticket revenue if ticket pricing remains the same. And for every $5 increase(palatable) that would bring in another $1.3M per year. The numbers could work for a big time coach.

Again. What was the point of bringing this info? YOU made the assertion that because RU allegedly reached out to a few impossible coandidates that meant Rutgers was serious. On what planet would Rutgers not reach out to the best people available? It was already mentioned money was not going to be a crucial deterrent. I knew Rutgers was "reaching out" to Richt. Everyone knew. I just don't get it. We're on page 5 of a thread because you heard Rutgers reached out to Chip Kelly, after he turned down USC, so you think that means Rutgers is serious? It means they are parading.

Richt is a long shot but possible I concede. Schiano, Golden, Cristobal, Fleck all more likely. The Fordham guy a dark horse. I don't see your post bringing me any positive value. Sorry.

Hope we get Chip
-----
calm down..... I have been fortunate to live through and follow at least 4 football coaching searches and hires....in the past it was evident, very early in the process, that Rutgers
could not afford the top name available coaches..... the searches often began with the hopes and dreams that we could get such a coach, but those dreams were never
realized....

it seems this time it might be different because we are trying to seriously engage Richt and the like.... this is all new for us.... I believe Waveslider here, dont know why you would not

I have a hard time believing the university is opening up its wallet big time, and I am glad it is, again thats to Waveslider for the positive news

your chip kelly mention, I do not understand at all

so, it is on the planet earth that I have seen coaching searches for RU before that begin with the idea of getting the best, and then settling for an assistant coach, or a low budget
option.

the rest of your post I am having trouble understanding...are you hopeful for a big time hire, or not?

Slider -- keep the info coming, but one question: why do you always spell it "Ritch"?
I wondered how long before someone pointed that out. We got one whole heck of lot farther along in the thread then I ever would've thought possible before that someone said something. LOL

Yep. A whole bunch of posters vouched for Silencer and his connections too. But the decision to fire Hermann and Flood had already been made well before Silencer posted that Barchi blinked and Flood was safe.

You shouldn't assume that any of this is 100%. treat it as a form of entertainment, kind of like the National Enquirer, and you'll be fine, rather than hanging on every word.

Where's the money going from? Are the big donors finally stepping up? Have Barchi and co. found new donors willing to pony up for someone like Richt?
People really worry about this, way too much! Not our business, lets just be thankful that someone finally has the ba*ls to understand what it takes!

?

Wait, not-for-nothing, but there are plenty of us here who have been saying, for a while now, that money WOULD NOT be an issue if and when we fired Fudd and went to bring in a new HC and staff. Appreciate the news from Waveslider today however he's definitely not the 1st to say "we're opening up our wallet!!"

I think door #1 is a political hot potato. No way Sen. Sweeney will hold still with Rutgers hiring a3-5mil coach plus staff and pay for it with taxpayer money. He'd have a stroke. It's got to be a door# 2 (donor funds) . just my take.

True. $3 million could fund 30 six figure no show jobs for his cronies.
Why would he waste it for the flagship state U?

How often do I post here? How often do I start threads?

Don't know who you are ruSojo but I do know waveslider... he is legit in connections and genuine in his interest of sharing with the diehards. When folks like waveslider come on in a genuine way rather than a look at me way like some other folks and then get crapped on, it makes the board worse overall because posters like him stay away. He is going to get the info anyway its the larger masses who are paying for premium product that will miss out.

The Philly media has been saying the same for a while, which is probably where Forde heard it from. Saying that Chip thinks about football 24/7, hates dealing with boosters and being at the whims of teenage kids and everything else that comes with big time athletics. Also saying that he doesn't want to quit on the Eagles and wants to get things right. Most believe that he will stay next this year and has next year to get it fixed.

I don't for a second believe that we will get Chip, but like the names that are being thrown out.

I would say that Angelo Cataldi and Howard Eskin together equal a dozen boosters, plus add cranky WIP callers, the slow drip of the steady stream of Inquirer and Daily News article about anything and everything Chip has done wrong since winning his intra-office power struggle with Roseman and maybe Chip is looking for the right escape hatch that would let him leave Philly with a little honor and dignity.

Philly has a way of wearing down people. Ask Okafor, or maybe Papelbon.

I would think Kelly would want to get away from Philadelphia and its media for his next gig. RU might not be far enough away.

I am pleased that RU has reached out to the likes of Richt and Mullen. I actually think Mullen might be a better fit if interested given his PA roots. I think Miss State gave him a substantial raise that I would find it hard to believe that Miami is going to top it. Maybe he just wants to live somewhere else and sees a clearer path to prominence in the ACC than SEC. Evidently both have interviewed in Miami and I don't see how the Canes select Schiano or Davis over either of these two guys. Richt is also heading to UVA for an interview. Culturally it may be difficult for Richt to come further north than College Park.

Despite this promising event, I do hope that most of the posters on this board remain realistic with regard to the expectations that we are getting either of these guys. The level of our interest probably will not be reciprocated. I think Matt Rhule deserves a phone call and wonder what happened at Missouri. I agree that if we are opening the wallet than Tom Herman should be called as well. Schiano maybe overplaying his hand but he will get a look at UVA as well. I also wonder what South Carolina is thinking. Spurrier left awhile ago and it appeared they were lined up for Kirby Smart but he is now thought to be UGA bound unless Mullen stops by Athens. Are they in on Richt as well?

I have no idea where this is headed and who we wind up with but I think we are setting ourselves up for a letdown if we start thinking someone like Chip Kelly is truly considering RU. Just not likely.
