Just sharing

You know even if Kelly/Richt/Mullen might be dreaming then how about a Tom Herman. If the budget is really that high he'd be someone possibly obtainable and he's expressed interest in RU before he went to Houston.

Take this for what it's worth but I heard that Andy Reid has heard from Forde. Just passing this along. I don't know if he will come here or not. But this shows Rutgers is serious about hiring a big name.

I've posted before (as evidenced by my 2011 join date) but somehow prior posts were lost?

Anyway don't get me wrong. It's a good thing that we're contacting the absolute biggest of fish, but anyone getting their hopes up that we'll land one is setting themself up for disappointment when the announcement comes. That won't be good for the fan base or the new coach, IMO.

So yes, it's encouraging to know that the process is progressing the way it should at this stage, but I still think the best realistic option is Greg, and if he turns it down (or gets the Miami job) we're probably looking at Cristobal or Babers, or someone on that tier.
The only disappointing thing about that would be if the school doesn't realize that the best Plan B is to take some of that money you were going to throw at a high profile HC, and instead let Schiano, Christobal or Babers pay top money to make great OC and DC hires.
Hell, history shows us that just paying the Fridge a top 50 type coordinator salary had a real positive impact on our offense. we should be able to do better than that if the HC only costs 2.5 or something.

Exactly what I was thinking. Especially when Herman went out the way to mention that he's only agreed to a new UH contract in principle.

A lot of people missing the point ITT. I don't think anyone believes we will actually land these big fish. Most are well aware that these coaches have their choice of landing spots and that there are several more attractive options available. However the fact that we are even reaching out to these coaches tells us that whoever we end up with, it will be because it was the best option we could find based on the relative attractiveness of the position and not because of budget.

Agree with this. Even if it's not one of the big names you can hire a lesser name like Babers or Cristobal with 1M budget on each side of the ball and budget for great recruiting position coaches. I'll take Babers HC, Aranda DC for 1M and OC for 500-600K and the rest of the staff 2.5M or so. That works for me too, if the big fish aren't obtainable.

without any source, it's not worth much

I don't think we needed a post with no source and flip flopping to be informed as such. I actually think the general consensus was we knew this already? No need for this.

I couldn't DISAGREE more!! As down as these boards have been these past few weeks, we need some excitement!! To know that they are AT LEAST making a full on effort to get THE best available coach in here is EXACTLY what this fan base needs to hear, whether or not it comes to fruition!!

These guys have very big egos. They dont do this just for money. Don't underestimate Richt's desire to stick it to Urban. In the same way that Fridge wanted to stick it to Mary and Franklin.

That would excite no one

This can not be true. The genius attorney (oxymoron?) was blabbing all day yesterday about how alarmed he was about the political appointee AD.

Nice. You made your idiotic statements yesterday, when you had no idea what you were talking about, and now you have your shot today, which contributes nothing to the thread, and has nothing to do with, well, anything really. You don't even have the decency to tag me so I can see I am being called out. At least when you called me F. Lee Bailey I had to think about it for a minute before I realized it made no sense.

If you actually read what I wrote yesterday, my argument was that Hobbs was not Barchi's choice, but rather was hired at Christie's direction. I said it remained to be seen whether Hobbs could actually succeed in this role, and that hiring the right football coach would go a long way towards alleviating my concerns. I was and am concerned about what Hobbs' appointment means for the future of our school.

So where exactly is your issue with what I said?

I hope it's door #2.
I think door #1 is a political hot potato. No way Sen. Sweeney will hold still with Rutgers hiring a3-5mil coach plus staff and pay for it with taxpayer money. He'd have a stroke. It's got to be a door# 2 (donor funds) . just my take.

I've heard a few similar things.

The pond that Hobbs is fishing in will make people do a double take.
Exciting times from the names I am hearing!! Gotta get one of these guys. Never has Rutgers been in contact with coaches of the caliber I am hearing. Never.

I could see state money paying for a new basketball arena, basketball training facility and athletics department offices. That might be on the table, but I agree the State is not funding a football head coach and nor should they. However, funding those infrastructure upgrades is a reasonable investment in the University itself since it upgrades the physical plant.

You are so full of shite it's not even funny. I simply stated in a thread yesterday that it was nice to see Rutgers act quickly for a change. Right off the bat you got lathered up about your political appointee BS. No one knows how Hobbs will turn out and I never said Hobbs was a good hire. No where in the thread in question did you say it remains to be seen if Hobbs can succeed. You were too busy banging the pulpit about political BS. You are the one that took an innocent statement in a place it didn't need to go. Did you got stuck in bridge traffic?

Lol I really don't care if you believe me or not. just wanted to share what I heard. Another quote someone said was " Were going Big, not GS big but someone that has done big things. If he doesn't win here RU might as well pack it up. RU fans might as well concentrate on NFL football."

Not GS big? I don't get that, he never won anything so I don't know big I'd classify GS big. All the names mentioned are beyond GS big.

I'm just sharing what people I know personally with close connections to RU told me. What he meant was its not GS big. Its bigger than GS. Someone that has done big things in CFB. If he takes the RU job and doesn't win then RU might as well kill the FB program.

i'll vouch for waveslider. i know for a fact that this cat has impeccable connections.

So if true...bigger than Schiano...someone who has won things. This is all predicated on the 'big fish' accepting...right. Not that they have their guy yet.

I don't believe he would come to RU either, but coincidentally I heard Pat Forde talking about Kelly on the Dan Patrick show earlier this week, and he commented that he believed Kelly had grown tired of some of the things involved in big time time college football, like dealing with the boosters. Forde said that Kelly would probably be happiest (not that he would do it for financial reasons) coaching at one of the service academies, because then he would just be a football coach.
Maybe someone at RU heard the same discussion and thought they would take a shot

The Philly media has been saying the same for a while, which is probably where Forde heard it from. Saying that Chip thinks about football 24/7, hates dealing with boosters and being at the whims of teenage kids and everything else that comes with big time athletics. Also saying that he doesn't want to quit on the Eagles and wants to get things right. Most believe that he will stay next this year and has next year to get it fixed.

I don't for a second believe that we will get Chip, but like the names that are being thrown out.

You know, if you use your source's exact words, we're ALL going to lose our source.

Got it?

RU was GS job if he wanted it. But apparently he's waiting for the U and RU ain't going to wait on him. I hope he doesn't overplay his hand. I'm just excited and realistic as you guys. I'm still in shock at the names being thrown around. I just wanted to share my excitement with the rest of RU die hards.

I do not doubt that RU has been in contact with some big names here....just want to caution you not to make it sound like a done deal, in any shape or form, or some here
will lash out at you if/when things go sour...as you know, they blame the messenger when things do not work out....

still glad to hear that we are working for something big

Sometimes leaking big names is only for show, eg to convince a fan base of serious $$$$$ commitment when it's not the truth.

And candidates seek other offers to milk more $$$$ out of their desired job.

We will only find out the $$$$ truth when a coach and staff are hired. Rumors and leaks are worthless.

you forgot the most important/likely reason to leak unrealistic big names -- to help push the smaller name into signing up faster and for less money.

If Schiano misses on Miami & UVA, and RU makes a hire, he will be in a tough spot

This is possible but the thing that would make believe it's true is if you see the money show up in the staff even if the coach isn't a big name. Like I said earlier in the thread, say it's Babers then let's see 1M for each coordinator, specifically the DC and then very nice budget for the position coaches who are big time recruiters. Even if the big rumors didn't come true seeing something like this come true would make me believe the big ones were happening. If not then I'd agree with what you said.
