Kill's Salary

How does sick pay work as it relates to this level of pay? Is it pretty much guaranteed money even if he never coaches a game?

I would like to know where his salary matches up to other OC's in the conference. Are we now officially "average" or .. perhaps, "better than.." ?

I thought I read somewhere that his salary is slightly above the current average for the B1G. About time ...

Here was the numbers for 2016 season. Penn State and Northwestern don't release numbers. It would probably place him 6 or 7 on the list depending on raises. I would love to see cost of living factored in. 600k will go a lot farther in Iowa then NJ.

1. Tim Drevno, Michigan, $850,000

2. Ed Warinner, Ohio State, $654,500 *

3. Garrick McGee, Illinois, $650,000

4. Greg Davis, Iowa, $625,000

5. Tim Beck, Ohio State, $604,500

6. Joe Rudolph, Wisconsin, $575,635

7. Jay Johnson, Minnesota, $550,000

8. Danny Langsdorf, Nebraska, $527,875

9. Walt Bell, Maryland, $500,000

10. Dave Warner, Michigan State, $450,584 *

11. Drew Mehringer, Rutgers, $450,000

12. Jim Bollman, Michigan State, $439,434

13. Terry Malone, Purdue, $400,000

14. Kevin Johns, Indiana, $381,000

Didn't we have a poster claiming he knew, without question, we could NOT "open up our wallets" for this hire?

Bobby Deren‏@BobbyDeren
Per sources: Jerry Kill deal has three year #Rutgers deal as OC $600K, $625K and $650 per year

Who cares what any one poster has to say, on any one topic, can't you just be happy the money was there. There's always a pissing contest on these boards between the "in the knows", and who really knows more,SMFH.

I did not say that RU would not open up its wallet, I said that RU would not have a blank check to hire any OC they wanted, big difference. Kill is a home run hire, but people who thought that RU would have a blank check to hire a OC from another P5 school were way off base. Paying in the middle of the B1G for a OC is a major step in the right direction & Kill came cheap, since he was desperate to get back into coaching, so RU got him for under market value.

Open wallet = blank check, no? Damn similar. No worries tru I'll retract my douchey comment!

He's above the median.
Not sure Kill is above median, since the numbers we have are from 2016, so we don't know what raises are built into the other B1G offensive coordinators for 2017, but he should end up near the middle, which is a huge step in the right direction for RU.

He is above the median of the numbers posted in this thread. A couple guys would need to get 10-20% raises to pass him.

I am quite pleased at how this turned out. Outside of MBB and WSoc this deal was the highlight of college sports for me lol.

I don't think anyone in the history of earth thought that.

We have always had the money. The "poor Rutgers" claim is a total fake narrative from the supposive insiders on this board who quite frankly don't know what the hell they are talking about. RU has just not learned that to "make money you have to spend money". Hopefully that will start to change - but at RU we always have to be concerned that the academics at the school have too big an ego to allow it.

Your comparing 2016 numbers to 2017 numbers. You don't think any of those guys will get raises? Rudolph contract is up for renewal this year. Most likely he will be over 600k which would put Kill at #7. I also would not be surprised if Moorehead at Penn State is also over 600k which would put him ahead of kill moving him to number 8 which is below the median.

I certainly was not as I didn't post the salaries. I responded to the person who said he was below the median on the numbers posted. For those numbers he is above the median.

You are right and it is a big difference and I also agree this is a great hire for us. We are not spending like the biggest of big boys but we are at least moving in the right direction.

Something critics of Rutgers football never seemed to understand.

Paying top dollar for coaches and facilities is not "spending" money. It's "investing" money. The obvious difference is that you expect a return on your money when it's an investment versus money spent.

If Rutgers administrators had understood that back in the 60's and 70's, Rutgers would be a perennial top 20 team that's rolling in the dough just like Ohio State, Michigan, etc. But instead, they were always worried about being criticized by the media and "N.J. taxpayers" for "spending" money on the football program.

it doesn't really matter how we describe it..... we did open up our wallets to pay him about $200 thousand over the last guy, to bring us to just about average for the
big 10.... we should just leave it at that

I imagine that Kill is also being brought in to help recruit the midwest and upper midwest, as he did in Minnesota. There's no denying that this staff will want to continue broadening the recruiting footprint until they (someday) attain a stranglehold on the tri-state area.

Think this is an overlooked point.
We need to recruit NJ, but we also need to broaden our recruiting footprint.
