A few hallmarks of Urban Meyer program have been constant competition and constant motivation.

I read a Schiano article about how much he loved what Meyer does to motivate as opposed to Schiano stating that his CHOP mantra as a motivation tool went stale.

They won a national championship because of superior talent and execution. Not because of Mickey Mouse ceremonies. I believe these kinds of things work short term but long term it becomes a joke to the players. The thing with Meyer the only place he stayed longer then 3 years was Florida and that program started to fall apart and he suddenly had health problems. We will have to see if he can have long term success at OSU or if it gets ugly like Florida. They took a step back last year. So will they improve or continue to decline this year. Saban has had long term success with out all the gimmicks. He just recruits and coaches them up.

Sure....they took a step back last year....only went 11-2, down from 12-1.....fire hm.

If they take a step back this year to 10-3, it's because they have 9 early enrollees and 14 players in the draft.

Great idea, I don't understand the issue about being knighted game ready. It shows leadership, and commitment.

That how it begins. These types of games work well when your on the top. But when things aren't going well guys stop buying in. At Florida he went from 13-1 to 8-5 then all the sudden the "health issues" came up. Later many found out he left that place a mess. They were all about me and there was no team unity. That the problem with these things. Competition is good but you also have to come together as a team. Let see where they are after this year. With a young team there is easily the potential for 4-5 loses on their schedule. Then we will see if the health issue flare up.

Interesting that the SL boys have had Wilkins ahead of Joseph this Spring, just shows how disconnected and irrelevant they have become. Obviously working from rumor and hearsay. all of a sudden theie #2 gets knighted and the DL coach comes out and says Joseph has a virtual lock on the position. What are these Bozo's watching?

To be fair they had him ahead going into the spring. Wilkins was stepping up the latter part of last season. It was not a unreasonable prediction.

They are not seeing much more than we see.

Umm no we went 12-1 last year instead of 13-1. The only difference is the one game we lost (that we should have won) kept us from the playoffs so we we only got 1 post season game instead of 2.

Now this year we are going to have a ton of first time starters (only 6 returning starters) so I can see 2 possibly even 3 losses, and then next year another run at a national championship.

You guys are going to get better under Ash. I was just pointing out the PSU fan running his mouth about UFM's methods not working is an idiot.

With three national championships under his belt, there's no more "wait and see" with Meyer... He's proven he is an elite coach. You can question and conjecture all you want, but it just comes off like you don't like the guy and want him to see him fail.

"Game ready" can involve multiple factors such as conditioning, knowledge of the playbook, and overall understanding of assignments and absence of mental errors. It isn't necessarily an indicator of who is more talented than who, and what the depth chart might eventually look like. At least I hope it isn't.

There are walkons in this program who have no realistic chance of ever seeing the field in any meaningful situation. Does that mean that they will never be considered game ready, and cannot be knighted? I certainly hope not.

And yes, I do believe in participation trophies.:sunglasses:

Agree to disagree, like we disagree on most things (like the Snorweah comparisons) but that's ok, this would be a boring board if we all just agreed

Not to mention he's won national championship with TWO different teams and took a third to a New Year's Day bowl game as a mid-major. In other words, he's proven his techniques work time and time again.

We need the same program for tailgaters.

I see groups showing up with 10 people, a six pack, no chairs,no tables, and two subway footlongs. This tailgate group is not game ready and should not be knighted.
How was their ratio?

Sneed is game ready before hicks and Martin? Doesn't that smell fishy to you?

If I recall correctly, someone (I think Bobby Deren) had mentioned that Sneed "looked particularly quick" in hitting the hole during the 1st scrimmage last week.

Is it possible we have a major stud here in Trey Sneed? He generated a lot of interest if you look at his offer list including North Carolina, Georgia Tech and Louisville. And, although they didn't offer, it looks like even Wisconsin and Clemson were showing some interest in him.

Even so, does it make any sense to potentially burn his redshirt this year and yet again have four running backs (along with hicks, Martin and Goodwin) to share carries? Seems to me when you have a solid stable of experienced running backs, even if you think you have a frosh stud you only burn the resshirt out of necessity

It depends. If Sneed is performing around the same level as Hicks and Martin then I would think it makes sense to red shirt him. But if he's outperforming them consistently, and our staff is preaching competition at every position, I don't see how they can red shirt him. I have no idea if Sneed is actually outperforming them but if he does I think they have to play him.

Agreed. But I didn't think being "game ready" necessarily meant he was going be seeing playing time this year. Or maybe it does ... who knows.

But worrying about redshirting him assumes he'll be here for 5 years, no? If he is as good in real life as he looks on tape, he just might be here for only 3 years.

If this is the case, do you think Ash might ask one of hicks or Martin to redshirt? I just can't see how it benefits the program long term to have all three backs using a year of eligibility. Last years "time share" wasn't good for anyone.

A lot of what I've read recently talks about he deemphasis in the NFL of the featured running back...I think fewer running backs will
Declare early for the NFL going forward because fewer will get drafted in the top
Rounds or drafted at all...there are so many quality backs around the country I don't see it likely any of these Gus declaring early unless they have extenuating family financial circumstances and are gauranteed a pay day...let's not declare sneed a 3 year guy before he plays a meaningful snap.

You're really starting to clutter a lot of threads with these "speculative" complaints. In this case you've taken a thread about a spring practice award system and turned it into a complaint about roster management/redshirting/etc. without knowing a thing about who actually gets into a game.

I mean if you are actually an RU fan, why not let things play out and have these debates when they actually have some basis and meaning?

Speculative complaints? You are very sensitive aren't you? Where do you see complaints? Also, do you normally chime into conversations of others? You must be a very rude person to be around.

Being "knighted" has been explained to mean "game ready" how is that speculative about "who actually gets into the game"? Seems pretty logical to me that "game ready" is indicative of who could play this season.

Either way, what you are really saying is why should any posters bother to have conversations about the season yet to happen and only focus on what has already transpired? Stop living in the past and look forward to the future...oh and just put me on ignore if you have a problem with my Opinions

When I started this thread, I envisioned a feel good thread giving the knighted players kudos and atta boys for earning knighted status. It's the nature of this message board I guess for something good to devolve into one or more posters who are fans of other teams denigrating the concept.

It's funny when the designated Asst Coach (Okruch) someone asked him who the 'knighted' players were. He responded something like ' I don't know, a TE maybe?' and he laughed, like it's a bigger deal to the media than to him or the players. Who knows, maybe I interpreted that wrong.

zero chance of Martin or Hicks redshirting.

I have a feeling Sneed is the guy Okruch is talking about that will be returning punts/kickoffs besides Janarion Grant. This spread offense is going to be interesting with all of these athletic/shifty RBs+Janarion Grant.

And btw Sneed is listed at 5'10 205 on the official roster. Seems like he really transformed his body.
