In the presser Ash said nothing about game readiness. Rather he said these players exhibited certain characteristics he specifically wanted like effort, hard work, teachability, etc.

IIRC it was a COMBINATION of game readiness and other things, as you mentioned, to be "knighted" and only the position coach can offer you up to the HC to do so.

Looking over the words again it seems primarily about Core values. Later Ash mentions that its also "going to help us in some capacity on game day". To me "some capacity" can mean almost anything from starting on the field to maintaining proper hydration on the bench.
