Kuhr Out - Erb In as RB coach

Good, :) exchange the kiddy coral for some experienced coaches. I like what Ash is doing, the new hires look like huge upgrades. Ash made a good, quick decisive decision by flushing out boy wonder and his sidekick [thumb2]

Did Zac Kuhr have any recruiting responsibilities? Seems like odd timing. When is LOI day?

I was also looking at Iowa articles and came across this tidbit. C'est la vie.

C.J. Beathard is leaving, but freshman Nathan Stanley has long since been crowned the heir apparent. The bigger issue will be the remainder of the quarterback depth chart, where the players Stanley passed, particularly junior-to-be Tyler Wiegers, will be prime transfer targets. Redshirt freshmen Drew Cook and Ryan Boyle (who spent the year at wide receiver and didn't play, despite a complete lack of production among the other receivers) could also transfer for more playing time, but both players have the capability of moving to other positions and geographic (and, in the case of Cook, family) ties to the program.

Maybe he should call Tom Savage for advice, and that is no knock on Tom Savage. Or he could call Gio. He should hang in there and fight for reps and try to move up the depth chart.

Ash realized change was needed and is doing what's necessary to try and repair the broken O RU had last year.
Glad to see him realize the O needed work and is bringing in new assistants in an effort to fix it.

didn't even know Kuhr left until just now....anyways great hire by Ash. Seems like a vastly improved staff in terms of experience, nothing against Drew and Zach

This was a little out of the blue.
On reflection, running back was a position that did under-perform, but with as many issues on the line as there were, it was a little hard as an observer to say that there was definitely a coaching gap- at least in year one.
Definitely a good pickup; Erb turned Shonn Green into an NFL running back. Hopefully he will have continued success recruiting and coaching up our guys.

Is Okruch not long for this world (which is not a bad thing if you ask me)?
You know it's interesting, from the Dunleavy piece in NJ.com, he says "Rutgers struggled mightily in nearly all facets of special teams last season, and it is Ash's philosophy that different assistants take charge of different units. Kuhr had kickoff return."
So the first thing I thought, was well, if that's true, what the hell is Okruch's job?

Punting and kicking? :grimace:

Collect a paycheck?

The upgrade in experience with the addition of Kill and Erb is outstanding.

Kill 32 years of experience compared to 2 for Drew.
Erb 25 years of experience compared to 3 for Kuhr.

That's 52 additional years of collective experience on the offensive side of the ball.
I would have understood if he had more patience but I'm glad he didn't. The experience on the offensive side of the ball was certainly lacking. Hopefully the choices make a big difference.

Two time Top 25 Recruiter and Special Teams coach as well...

From the linked article:
"Nevada was the only school in the nation with two running backs topping 1,000 rushing yards in 2015. That same season the Wolfpack also had arguably the best special teams in the Mountain West Conference, from kickoffs and punts to return yardage."

Good recruiter, good with RBs, and good with special teams? Seems like a home run to me.

I hope we stop that stupid arm swing on kickoffs.

Attended the Indiana game with a friend who is not a huge football fan, (and multiple games with my kids), and they all thought it was laughable.
