Tampa Florida!
When would you expect leaks to start coming out about the RU FB HC position?

As we all know, it's not often in big time sports that we don't start hearing things prior to big events.

Don't expect many, they learned their lessons from 2013.
I don't think you can really do anything about leaks.

If you're looking for a coach you have to reach out to a lot of donors, you have to reach out to agents and coaches... The leaks don't have to come from RU. Lots and lots of people will know when you;re looking and most of them will be outside of the control RU.

The leaks are coming already. If you read this board carefully, plenty of hints have been dropped.

The second you need to reach out to high level donors, operational security is compromised. You never know who is friends with someone. You never know who is plugged into certain high powered HS programs. You never know who is plugged into recruits and what they are being told (even if in between the lines).

If you get a piece of what seems like innocuous information here, another piece there, a third piece from over here, you can paint yourself a pretty good picture of what is happening in the AD right now.

The wheels are turning to move on Flood. Does that absolutely, unequivocally mean he's out? No, not yet. Certain things need to fall in place.

Certain messages from the fan and donor base can still be sent.

As was posted here over the weekend, the best message you can send is to return your UNUSED tickets. I'm not suggesting some massive protest. BUT...BUT...if you have more tickets than you need, can sell or give away, rather than keeping them in your sock drawer, mail the UNUSED stub to the AD's office with a note.

I'm expecting to log on any day now and see thousands of posters on and an announcement about a press conference any day. Why wait, cut to the chase, and if current recruits want out, so be it.

If he loses to Army, I think you can make a case to leave him on the Palisades Parkway.

Short of that, there is no real advantage--other than to satisfy the blood lust of the fan base--to can him now. It's 2 weeks. The AD is already in contact with currently available candidates. If your top candidate(s) are still coaching, so be it. You can still reach out.

You're right. There is no advantage, but damn wouldn't it feel good to think that the AD felt every bit as fed up as the fans and just couldn't wait any longer?

I think the biggest thing that has been brought up a few times is that Golden, along with Mullen, was someone she liked back in 2013 and Golden's name is being bandied about again and he's available this time. Beyond that I don't know that there's much else out there.

Yeah, I want my leaders to be impetuous fans acting irrationally just because it feels good. Why can't they just say fuk it, I'm done with this shit... Why is it so hard for people to understand that this needs to be handled differently than any other school because we're too cheap to do it correctly on our own & we don't have a Plank or Pickens? Our donors & BOGs will only pay, & a different amount at that, based on a few candidates & if certain things are lined up. There's absolutely no harm in waiting until after the season.

Erm, doing it a week early (when you already know it's going to be done) <> acting irrationally. Maybe a bit impetuous, but there really isn't much of a downside to doing it a week early if you know it's going to be done, and if he loses to Army he's getting fired. There is no 'well we couldn't line up the coach we wanted', lose to army and you're at the very bottom of P5 programs and you lose your job.

I assume for a few reasons

1. The admin arent sold on firing the guy. Id buy that if he wins the last two and looks likely to make a bowl, they will keep him for another year. It would be terrible for the fan base, but that would be a reason to wait.
2. It allows you to gauge the market without jumping in - what if it turns out the best we can expect is, as per that SI article , an FCS coach or the ffifth best MAC coach, or a coordinator at a mid-level P5 coordinator. One can argue about making a change for changes sake, but taking an extra two weeks to figure out if its worth it wont hurt much - as long as we dont wait BEYOND the day or two after the MD game. No one we want is going to be available until then other than Golden or Schiano, but also none of them are going anywhere before then either.
3. Kind of a 2a - it allows us to line up donors. Now that it seems more likely than not that we will finish 4-8 or worse and fire Flood, it gives us some time to get the big money behind the idea before we announce it.

But really there is a reason to do it or not do it early. Its mostly a PR thing. Its certainly not about savings the class - thw two weeks wont matter.

This is what I am hearing from very good sources within Rutgers:

Flood to be fired for cause shortly after season is over.

Julie's short list is as follows:

Schiano
Herman
Strong
Davis
Fleck

Well, there's a leak. If you have paid careful attention to some of our other posters this doesn't seem out of line with what they have been saying.

Don't assume the AD is not as fed up as the rest of us. The empty student section was the final straw. The process is well underway. But because this is Rutgers nothing will be announced until the season is over.

Very interesting and ambitious list of names. I'm just wondering if she has the wherewithal to pull this off. I would hope she learned her lesson the last supposed go around and she has her ducks lined up accordingly. Fingers crossed she can get this done. Good stuff!

what is everyone's opinion of Butch Davis as RU head coach? This is my first time seeing his name mentioned. I think that would be a great hire for RU, especially with all of the HS coaches looking for a "named" coach. That would be very interesting.

Can't argue against any of those names. Land one of these guys and I can see a slight uptick in recruiting after the dust settles. You have my attention

Davis is hunting for a HC job. He has already contacted Miami, so if that list is correct, it must mean that he has put out feelers to Rutgers as well.

Don't overlook Charlie Strong! He has prior history with Julie. I feel that he has not been successful at Texas, only because it's Texas(that's all I need to say about that). And, CS is CS. Never was a good fit. But, I do like his character, recruiting skills, and understanding the game.

He is a program builder and great ethics. He cares deeply about his players and their academic success. He can also recruit extremely well in Florida and the east coast (not so much Texas). He is also defensive mind coach who can also develop QBs.

He is a bad fit for Texas but he would be perfect here. But he would have to get fired 1st from Texas since there is no way in hell we could ever afford that buyout.

He was able to get his team up to beat Oklahome. I'll take him

If this list is true, I throw as much cash as RU can realistically afford to extract Herman from Houston.
He is currently at about $1,300,000. at Houston. He is very affordable, but the question is does he want to come to the East Coast? Love his Power Spread Offense! Very successful at all his stops. Young, and has recruited "under the radar" guys while DEVELOPING that talent. Has excellent Asst's who are clearly loyal. Also, a very good possibility, which I would completely endorse.

The bigger issues with Herman is that he has a $2.5M buyout and he is going to be high on other team's boards. What he makes now, is not the issue.

Oh, OK, did not know that. RU will never come up with that. But, would have been a very good hire for the future of RU Football.

Butch Davis is not exactly suited for RU. He's of the Jimmy Johnson "school of yahoo," which really wouldn't play well in the NJ market, for HS recruiting and for the alumni and fan base.

He can coach. Sure. But . . . in 2011, Davis was fired by UNC, per an NCAA investigation of academic misconduct (cheating) and allegations of players receiving improper benefits (cash and gifts) from agents; Davis assistant and long-time friend, John Blake, had direct financial ties to an agent.

And then there's this: Davis infamously told his players in a team meeting, "If ya'll came here for an education, you should have gone to Harvard." Untouchable, to the RU admin. Just not possible.

We can get creative. We could pay a million over time - $250k for 4 years. Give them a million dollar pay day in a few years for a football game at Rutgers when the B1G money kicks in and have Hermann pay $500k of it. That is similar to what Florida did with their new coach and his buyout. Houston needs a few payday football games and might even like a basketball game up here for recruiting. Not as impossible as it sounds.

I can't see Golden. RU would be laughed at for that one after the Miami fiasco. But then again why they just might.

I was wondering this myself. Serious question, why the strong appeal of Al Golden?

I know we looked at him post Temple to replace Schiano, but it seems like his stock has fallen a lot and he struggled at Miami. I don't see how he could do better at RU now that we are in a much tougher conference. I guess he is better than Flood, but a broom would better coach than Flood at this point.
