Looks like Malcolm Pridgeon is going to be a much tougher get than it initially seemed

After his surprise commitment and then immediate de-commitment I assumed we were still going to be in the lead for his services considering he HAD just committed a few hours earlier so whatever caused him to love Rutgers then hadn't changed over those few hours.

But, that being said, after reading the NJ.com article about him it sure seems like he is looking to other places. Surprising considering he said he is really looking for a strong academic school. And then you also combine that with our success getting OL players in the NFL and us being close to home and you would think we would still be very tough to beat despite his de-commitment.

Either way I guess we will see.... I was just wondering what everyone else's vibe was after reading that article

I read the article, as well. -And truthfully, though I hate to say it, the vibe I got was that right now we have 2 chances with Pridgeon: slim and none.

Of course, as we all know and have seen in the past, recruiting situations can change very quickly and unexpectedly, so I guess you can never really say never in terms of a prospect. -But, to me anyway, Malcolm seemed, at best, indifferent towards/about RU.

Call me a pessimist, but if one decommits moments after committing, I'm pegging us at no chance. The rest is lip service / save a spot...

Here's how it goes. A top prospect commits to Rutgers. People around him freak out.. "Rutgers?".. giving the kids doubts he made the right choice. The competing recruiters leverage that making quick calls.. "Rutgers?". If they were on the fence about the kid and he sensed that before choosing Rutgers, now they seem more interested.. even if it is only to put him back in the market so they might make an offer or actually honor an offer they already had made.

Rutgers just does not have the advantage the top programs have of having pumped out generations of sports fan who chose their school, at least partially, because of success in football or basketball. We don't pump out future gym teachers and coaches. The state isn't full of people who want their kids and their siblings and neighbors kids to play for Rutgers.

There is something in the water here... and it is not limited to college sports and Rutgers.. just look at all the Cowboys fans, Steelers fans and so on. They are everywhere.

By the way his attitude about RU is reported, and the fact that he did not show up to to the big Man camp, it's fair to say he;s gone. Little to no chance here. I would agree with some of the commenters that someone has gotten into his head. It may NOT be friends, but could very well be coaches who are recruiting him from OTHER programs. They got to mommy too.

I don't know about he 'family' atmosphere at Baylor, but I doubt it's better than RU's. Notice that he didn't even mention RU in that light.

The family thing at Baylor is ridiculous. Does he not read the news?

Initially he wanted to go to RU to stay close to his mother, who has severe health issues. Other schools are probably pitching him with the idea that they can help him by having Benjamin Franklins visit his mom frequently.

Let him go sit the bench at Ohio State and then be an undrafted rookie free agent.

I am pretty sure he legit wanted to come here and then he was talked out of it by "outside forces". At this point it appears that he got sucked into whatever BS they were selling and he is no longer committing here.

As far as the Baylor Bear$$$ ... no comment.

If you can't sell the success we've had sending OL guys to the NFL plus the academics plus the family environment... then the kid has other motivations or just isn't confident enough.. we should be real solid recruiting this area... no expectations with this guy... (the player not the coach)

Why the dollar signs after Baylor Bears? Do they have a history of paying players and getting caught?

The outside forces are the human garbage piles coaching Nassau Clown College.

Looking at those schools, Ohio State has 3 senior OTs on their 2 deep depth chart while Va. Tech has 2 and Baylor has ZERO. Why the interest in Baylor is beyond me from a football perspective. I could see him thinking he could see playing time at OSU coming from a JC, though I'm sure their underclassmen farther down the depth chart aren't chopped liver.

All schools deal with the same "outside forces" and negative recruiting. Our coaches have to sell RU in a way that when a kid commits and people negative recruit, the kid has both the confidence and ammunition to say "Yes, I chose that school, and I am comfortable with my decision."

Full stop.

It's very interesting to me that he names OSU as a place of interest since there has been no mention of this kid by the recruiting staff on any of the OSU boards I frequent. OSU signed 5 OL in their 2015 class and already have 4 OL commits for 2016 and 2 for 2017. I expect both of those classes to sign 5 OL as well. I'll have to look into this some to see if there is legit interest from OSU since room is very limited.

this kid is indecisive, plain and simple. The act he pulled upon committing and immediately decommitting was an embarrassment to all involved, most of all to the player. I have a hunch he is not as good as advertised.

Do we have a major in the culinary arts at Rutgers... I'm not aware of any ...does Sodexo qualify as one? ... we are beyond this point and should just move on from Pridgeon ...He's definitely been influenced as well as others around him... Baylor which is 2000 miles away but does offer up great Tex Mex and BBQ.

Mario Batali went to RU but he was a business major. He went to a culinary school after graduation.
