Anybody ever measure The RAC????
Anybody ever measure The RAC????
All I've got is the decibel app on my phone. 88db in section 114 during some big games. I was in Assembly Hall last year for the RHJ shot in row 3 of the IU student section. When IU made their run the highest I got was 87db. Assembly Hall is a mecca for college hoops, but my phone says the RAC is louderAnybody ever measure The RAC????
The Bucknell game was the one aberration this year. December 23 and terrible weather.During the game, I was driving and listened to the second half on the radio after I learned Rutgers was up by 10 at half time. The 880 announcers, including Austin Johnson who played b-ball for Rutgers, repeatedly stated Mackey is the loudest arena in the B1G and toughest arena for visitors in the conference.
They added that even though Purdue was on break, a full band and cheer team was present.
When I went to the Bucknell game at the RAC, the gym was half empty, the band didn't show, and the cheer team totaled four.
Hard to criticize Rutgers b-ball and the RAC, but shows how intense the B1G gameday experience can be. Of course, the scene in Mackey would've have been different if Purdue was, say, ranked below #1.
I get it. For that reason I got a 100 level row E seat for $90 including all fees. The Bucknell game was the one aberration this year. December 23 and terrible weather.
Wife and I used to do a walk around the stadium pregame. That stopped when the Johnson Park side started to vibrate from the sound waves. Whoever thought, "that's it, we found the perfect sound level" is a fvcking moron".The piped In music at SHI before a game last year was over 100.
My nephew went there, they have a ton of close off campus housing. By the end of his freshman year, he moved off campus because that's what everyone does. I'm sure many of them came back early to party.I doubt Mackey was devoid of a student presence. The PU student body includes many from Indianapolis metro and Chicago metro that are within a reasonable driving distance to West Lafayette from their permanent residences.
Noted and sounds about right (like many other schools incl. Rutgers). Not being specifically familiar with nearby off-campus housing at Purdue, I didn't comment as such but that would certainly contribute to student attendance also.My nephew went there, they have a ton of close off campus housing. They said during the game that they had some sort of student throwback promotion and panned over the student section to show a crowd of older alumni.I doubt Mackey was devoid of a student presence. Lol. You are comparing the game that took place on Friday 12/23 at 5 pm during an ice storm vs. a low level OOC opponent we were expected to thrash, and a game vs. a top conference opponent as an undefeated #1 team in the country.During the game, I was driving and listened to the second half on the radio after I learned Rutgers was up by 10 at half time. My readings of over 100 came from the side opposite Johnson Park. Maybe it was even louder on the student end. Utterly stupid.Wife and I used to do a walk around the stadium pregame. That stopped when the Johnson Park side started to vibrate from the sound waves. Whoever thought, "that's it, we found the perfect sound level" is a fvcking moron".

Walking? We sprinted 😂lol, everyone at the game on 12/23, including the players, just wanted to get it over with and get on with Christmas - and not freeze to death walking to the car.

Purdue's volume was a hangover from RHJ's shot last year breaking their heart. I expect our volume against tOSU this year to set a record for the same reason.Second loudest ever for Mackey is impressive considering the students were on break.
I was there with my son. Parked in the deck and it was still a brutal walk. I was impressed as many showed up as they did.lol, everyone at the game on 12/23, including the players, just wanted to get it over with and get on with Christmas - and not freeze to death walking to the car.
Incorrect about the arena being half full for the Bucknell game. I sit in the 100s. Arena was mostly full. Some no shows in the 100s due to the horrible weather and opponent.During the game, I was driving and listened to the second half on the radio after I learned Rutgers was up by 10 at half time. That's what I'm hoping for.Purdue's volume was a hangover from RHJ's shot last year breaking their heart. I expect our volume against tOSU this year to set a record for the same reason.
Dude, I was there. The band band was there, wtf are you talking about? Maybe not as many, but there. Plenty of cheer and dance team. Not as many students as normal but respectable.During the game, I was driving and listened to the second half on the radio after I learned Rutgers was up by 10 at half time. I thought the same thing. I was 300's and mostly full. They did let people move to student section.Dude, I was there. The band band was there, wtf are you talking about? Maybe not as many, but there. Plenty of cheer and dance team. Not as many students as normal but respectable.
