Wrestling MATCH THREAD: Rutgers Wrestling vs. No. 2 Michigan

Well I guess you could say Britton can get out from 125 lbers. But not much else from him this match.

Medley with the head-in-the-hole go-behind once again. Britton escapes, but it won't mean much. Medley, with the RT point, wins 10-5.

Michigan leads 9-0

Aguilar looked unprepared. Where's Alvarez? Britton had no O or D on that front headlock. Not a good start.

Sebastian Rivera taking the mat to make his Rutgers debut against Drew Mattin at 141-lbs.

I'm not shocked by Aguilar losing because we've repeatedly talked about how good Ragusin is and how dominant he's been in freestyle recently, but it's how he lost. The lack of strength and being thrown around like a rag doll by a true freshman is absolutely freightening.

Rivera hits a pick on the edge, but Mattin does a hell of a job fending it off. They go out of bounds without a score

OK not exactly how I expected the 1st period to go. But two more to go. Mattin has done absolutely nothing and no stall yet.

Finally a stall call 1 min. into the 2nd.

Rivera the aggressor, but unable to capitalize on several takedown attempts. First period ends scoreless.

Rivera will start the second period on bottom

Rivera keeps Mattin down the remainder of the second period to keep a 2-0 lead, and accumulate over a minute of RT.

Rivera on top to start the third period

Mattin gets hit with a second stall call, giving Rivera a 3-0 lead. He then tilts Mattin for a four count, going up 7-0 with under a minute remaining

Mattin has wrestled Rivera twice in the past and kept it relatively close both times. Would be nice to pick up the major but I don’t think this match was going to have a pin potential or anything

Rivera keeps Mattin down to secure the major decision. He wins by a score of 8-0 after the RT point.

Rutgers is down 7-4 heading into 149lbs

Great job by SeaBass in the 2nd and 3rd to get the major, but he was pissed after the match. Pinched the mat and then threw his headgear heading to the locker room.

Love the fire and intensity from him!!

I've known Sebastian since he was about 4, and wrestled for his dad since I was 10. A whole LOT of fire in that family. Intense is an understatement.

Van Brill and Storr go scoreless in the first period. MVB goes down to start the second, and strikes first with an early escape.

1-0 MVB

No action the rest of the second period. MVB still leading 1-0 heading into the third,

He will start the final period on top

If they don’t call this 2 points then just get rid of replay for back points

Rutgers loses the challenge, seeking back points for Van Brill on a merkle attempt.

Storr willl remain on top, after being awarded the reversal. Storr leads 2-1 with 1:17 left in the third.

Damn MVB was so close to finishing that at the buzzer... needed to stay with it.
