the point is that just because RU has become competitive in some games does not mean they are all of sudden ready to COMPETE with the Maryland and Wisconsins of the world...different distinctions.
Once again the only thing that matters is winning and right now Rutgers has a lot of catching up to do to successfully compete in the B1G.
I understand what you are saying but its based on wishful thinking not reality. For over a decade Rutgers has consecutive losing seasons which has translated in worse recruiting and poorer performances.Showing improvement in some fans eyes is a feel good concept which has very little relevance with recruits who want to play in the NCAA Tournament on a regular basis.Winning is the only thing that matters in sports and losing is the reason coaches get fired every 3-5 years.Rutgers needs to get out of hibernation and face the stark reality that power conference athletics requires recruiting at a level not seen at this school for a very long time. When we play top tier teams, I don't think it is about winning.
It is about competing.
(Maryland is currently a top tier team)
When we play lower level teams, getting some wins here and there is important.
But the main thing is the coaching staff has to show a baseline of improvement (even if a clunker is thrown in once in a while).
Showing improvement and being able to sell that plan to recruits is the most important thing now (not winning).
