We dont have more than others, but we have less depth than the majority of teams in our division of the B10. Our #1s sometimes are as good or better than elite teams. Our #2s rarely are.Every single year injuries are trotted out as an excuse, as if we have more of them every single year than anyone else.
Maybe. You find a way to win or you don't. Schiano and his fans remind me of George McClellan, always calling for more time and more troops and always making excuses and rarely delivering much.We dont have more than others, but we have less depth than the majority of teams in our division of the B10. We are bowl eligible. We were not last year. Steady improvement. But not where we need to be yet.Maybe. You find a way to win or you don't. Schiano and his fans remind me of George McClellan, always calling for more time and more troops and always making excuses and rarely delivering much.
i suppose you mean ‘adequate’ and not ‘fine’ in that specific scenario. The problem is, that approach doesn’t work against good teams (2.0 hasn’t beaten any with a winning record), so he’s simply not good enough at the position when we need him to do something besides handing off or running it himself. It's not complicated. He is a fine QB when the running game is working and he can pass enough to keep everyone honest. This is the case with average to mediocre defenses/programs. However, he lacks the ability to pass when he is forced to (i.e., the defense is good enough to stop our run). In these situations, he has proven to be completely non-functional and overwhelmed.
No, we don't all agree to that statement. It's too oversimplified to be accurate. We all agree the offense is one dimensional because of his deficiencies.
but making good points, that's why I repliedI was being facetious.
but making good points, that's why I replied
Worse than that. 38-22.IIRC the time of possession was something 36-24 in favor of Iowa. If that's accurate they did get tired.
won't argue about issues being beat to death by those just wanting to bash Gavin, Schiano and the program.Except they're not good points, just dead horses that certain posters on this board like to beat.
That begs the question: is that a butthead, or an assface? It's not entirely clear. You:

i thought it was a nutsack at first tbh. took me a second. That begs the question: is that a butthead, or an assface? It's not entirely clear.
Iowa and Wisconsin are not Ohio State and Michigan. But the main point you missed is that sometimes you have to go ahead and work with what you have and stop demanding more time. That might be a reasonable analogy if McClellan didn't have the equivalent of Ohio St. or Michigan with regards to the troops, arms and supplies. He did.
Hmmm...good points and taking them into consideration, I just don't see average at this time.First off, gef21 looks at more than the stat sheet, if he's even looking at the stat sheet at all.
Your question goes back to everything else involved in having a good pass efficiency and completion percentage. We don't have WRs that can consistently get separation or catch imperfect balls, and we don't have a pass receiving TE. Our RB room is banged up. That doesn't forgive GW entirely - but he seems to be an average QB without above average guys at the skill positions to take up the gap.
Couple that with going against some of the best defenses in college football. The national leaders in pass efficiency defense are #1 Ohio St, #2 Michigan, and #4 Iowa. Our other loss, Wisconsin, comes in at 27th - and Penn State this weekend clocks in at #10. Northwestern is #39, and VTech is #41. It's not like we're going up against average defenses each week.
He has made some nice throws but has made some real head scratchers. He hasn't done much on the ground lately even when it seems obvious he should pull the ball back and run. Is that his decision or one predetermined by the coaches, which is even worse, because wide open running lanes are there and they aren't letting him decide. I'll add INTs, percentage of interceptions per dropback and Pick 6s to some of the many stats to consider as well. I'm just not seeing it and I really want him to succeed by the way.I am taking into account what he has done on the ground, and he has made some nice throws. If we are grading on a sliding scale of all NCAA QBs then he is an F for completion percentages. There are many, many more stats to consider besides just completion percentage.
No, we don't all agree to that statement. It's too oversimplified to be accurate.
Our passing game struggles due to a combination of problems with multiple players. Not solely because of GW
Schiano delivered a bowl bid, no thanks to you. He delivered competitive games for three quarters against elite competition, despite talent constraints.Maybe. You find a way to win or you don't. Schiano and his fans remind me of George McClellan, always calling for more time and more troops and always making excuses and rarely delivering much.
GW needs to fix some things but also curious what Teel’s QB ranking was in 2005.then what’s the explanation for his QB ranking around the very bottom in several categories ? are his receivers as a group also among the very worst in the country ? Is the OL pass-blocking the worst in the country ? is the playcalling responsible for his poor passing ? does the eye test say something different than the stats ?
If the answer to these questions is no, the only valid conclusion on the futility of the passing game is that it’s primarily him.
Schiano gets $4 million per year and I'm supposed to give more to him so he can coach a QB to throw a pass? Your only song is gimmegimmegimme.Schiano delivered a bowl bid, no thanks to you. He delivered competitive games for three quarters against elite competition, despite talent constraints.
There’s no finding a way to win if you lack troops and resources. McClellan had ample amounts of both. And that is why he was fired.
Rutgers does not, when it comes to competing against OSU, PSU, and Michigan. The differences are stark, and noticeable, as soon as you step on the respective campuses. So your analogy, as usual, is invalid.
We need more talent on the offensive side of the ball, and thankfully it’s on its way. But we have to build the infrastructure to sustain a successful program that can be competitive with the elite programs in the conference.
As bad as Teel was statistically as a frosh (2 tds, 10 picks) he was a 50% passer and produced 6.8 yds/attempt in 2005. Gavin - 22 career starts in - is 6.1 this year and is a career 46.7% passer.GW needs to fix some things but also curious what Teel’s QB ranking was in 2005.
and this is Gavin’s third year in Schiano’s stable, supposedly developing. As bad as Teel was statistically as a frosh (2 tds, 10 picks) he was a 50% passer and produced 6.8 yds/attempt in 2005. Gavin - 22 career starts in - is 6.1 this year and is a career 46.7% passer.
We play in the Big 10, not Fantasyland.Schiano gets $4 million per year and I'm supposed to give more to him so he can coach a QB to throw a pass? Your only song is gimmegimmegimme.
Gimmegimmegimme I can't score a single TD without millions more. But I deserve a raise. We play in the Big 10, not Fantasyland.
Schiano’s 4 million is his coaches salary. Ryan Days salary is $10M. And Ohio State alum kicked in another $13M to fund NIL for their football team. If we want to compete with Ohio State, we will need to boost our NIL giving. Otherwise we will just have to accept that we will lose to them for the foreseeable future. Same with Iowa, though their nil support is on a smaller scale.
I know you don’t want to donate. But it’s hard for me to understand how you are so willing to run your mouth, despite your unwillingness to do so.
We need similar resources to compete, just like in your McClellan analogy.Gimmegimmegimme I can't score a single TD without millions more. But I deserve a raise.
At any given time- and Mike is one of my favorites. But on his OL through his years- 5 guys that have at least started mult games in the NFL- Zuttah, Davis, Stephenson,Stapleton, Haslam. 2 guys that had mult years in camps- Fladell, Ryan B, and a top performer in college that got injured, Sosa.Teel also had Rice and Leonard. And Zuttah on the line.
Next year the freshman class will be acclimating, so in two years we’ll be exactly where we want to be.at the very least, we should have a full wide receiver room next season. Right now we have a banged up Jackson, freshman Strong and two healthy possession receivers in Washington and Dremel. Between this year's freshman class and next year's, there's a lot of players that should be able to contribute.
Exactly how someone can not realize this is beyond me.We dont have more than others, but we have less depth than the majority of teams in our division of the B10. Our #1s sometimes are as good or better than elite teams. Our #2s rarely are.
Not more injuries. Less depth. Not that complicated.Every single year injuries are trotted out as an excuse, as if we have more of them every single year than anyone else.
