After reading the nj.com articles and reading through the forum, here are my collective thoughts on this whole situation:

1. Firing Kirk Floyd and James Hermann was the best news Rutgers received since the Big Ten invitation. It was like Christmas and Hannukka both fell on the same day!

2. Al Golden- do we really want a recycled, failed, HC as our next coach? Someone posted that we'd secure our spot as a second-rate program if we hire him-- 100% agreed.

3. Need to own our state, recruiting-wise. Go look at Ohio State's roster, over 60% of the kids are from Ohio and they get the top kids. I've been saying it for years now-- we need to build the "Great Wall of Jersey" to keep our recruits home/other schools out.

4. The AD- interesting hire. Seems like a no-nonsense type of guy, no time for the circus that occurred in the past. Seems like he will rule with a tight fist and not tolerate any BS. Seems to understands that this is a BUSINESS ahead of anything else. His lack of AD/Athletic experience is not a concern of mine. As long as he bridges the gap in fundraising he will be golden.

6. Mixed feelings about bringing back Greg Schiano. Pros: knows the program, homecoming of sorts, finish what he started, "grace period" to clean up the mess/Cons: should he just ride off in the sunset, will anything else he can do here tarnish his legacy?, he doesn't have that ballerific house anymore

If you're coming up with Kirk Floyd and James Hermann you need to do some serious re-reading haha. Look up Gary Schiano while you're at it.

Oh yeah, "James" Hermann. Stopped reading right there.

The OP says we need to own this state and build a wall around NJ, of all the candidates on the list Golden has the best chance to do that...but the OP doesn't want him.

I'm not wedded to any one coaching candidate, IMO, any solid coach that has the resources to hire a solid staff can win here. Some of you guys act like the program will die if we don't hire the guy you want...unlike last time, Rutgers is taking this hire very seriously so I'm very optomistic that we are going to get a coach that will do very well here.

As someone who celebrates both, having Christmas & Hannukah falling on the same day sucks. Better to space them out & enjoy them both.

KJ_RU- I actually agree with your point. To my point on Hobbs, I think he will make a prudent hire, but the RU screw is what scares me. Given the PR mess that we've been the past 3 years or so, I think he will clean it up and make a decent hire.

I will give him a clean slate and let me screw up before I bash him, not letting my opinion be based on what happened before him.

What are everyone's thoughts on my Schiano point? I think it is valid. Too bad nobody can read past my (apparently poor) stab at humor to speak on the rest of my thoughts.
