My thoughts

Sorry about your cat...pets are indeed family members...I cried like a two year old when I had to put down mine because she had incurable cancer...so I get it
You WUSS! LOL! Seriously, I know what you mean. I have a nine year old golden retriever we got from a private breeder when he was 7 weeks old. He is definitely family and it will be devastating to my wife, son and me when he goes. He is not only part of the family, He IS family.

BAC, sorry for your loss. A good friend of mine who lives out in Colorado, just lost his dog of 13 years. He and his wife didn't have any kids. Their dog was their child. They were devastated for months.

Bac, I am sorry for the loss of your cat. When my wife passed away 22 months ago I lost both of my dogs within the next 4 months. 2014 was the worst year of my life. My wife and I lost 4 dogs during our married life and many cats over the years. They are a part of the family and we missed each and every dog and cat over the years. It is a sad time whenever a family pet is lost.
I myself am quite happy with the hiring of Coach Pikiell. I hope he can do well.

Was waiting for your thoughts on the hire, Bac. Nice post. I hope Hobbs is committed to surrounding Pikiell with a talented staff. I agree with your sentiments on Shoes and Patel. No offense to those guys but we need better.
Sorry to hear about your cat bac.
Glad you're on board with hiring Pikiell.
He might not seem like a WOW hire, but hope he makes us say WOW Steve is good.
Don't expect him to have instant success , but think he'll make RU MBB more competitive and better than it was for a long long time.
Whether he's the bridge to RU becoming a good program and constant Dance member or
someone that becomes The One we say made RU MBB into the type of program we always hoped it to be is something we'll find out by the time his contract is due to be extended.

I'll think positive and expect to see Pikiell coaching RU MBB in the NCAAs by the time his contract is due to expire.
A new era is starting at RU and it is the Era of winning Men's Basketball under Coach Steve Pikiell

Very sorry to hear about your cat bac. On the bright side ru hired a guy that can coach. That alone is something to be hopeful about.

Hey Bac sorry for the loss of your cat man, just a few months ago I had to put down our family's 16 year old cat, so I feel your pain.

To be honest I did not read the rest of the post yet I will as soon as I finish this and we have all year to debate if we have opposite views. Some things are more important than message boards. Feel better.

I will support him because I am a Scarlet Knight but this hire seems no different than Bannon, Waters, FHJ, Rice or EJ. No other P5, BE or top midmajor wanted him, which is like no offers for a FB recruit. I'm highly skeptical. Hopefully, he does better than those guys.

Stop trying to hijack the thread, Leonard. We're talking about cats here!

Sorry for the loss of your cat ? Geezus H Christ, what has this world come to?

You really want to talk about dignity after showing such lack of class with a post like this?

You're either not a pet person, in which case you wouldn't understand the bond people form with their dog or cat....or even worse, you're just cold hearted.

To answer the question you asked above, the answer is obviously a world without common decency.

I understand cleaning house but why not keep shoes? My understand is he got us Sanders, Laurent and Foreman which should be enough to keep his job. Get rid of everyone else. If they get rid of shoes and sanders and Laurent transfer that would be an absolute disaster and set the program back even further. To me it's not worth the risk. Keep him on to try to keep players for transferring. What is the downside of keeping him that justifies that risk?

I was in the Sendek camp and was meh on Hurley and was frankly stunned at the Hurley worship.

Nice coach with head coaching experience. He built a program. He is a winner. He has won 22 games six of the last seven years. He has Metropolitan ties. Solid solid hire. Very much on board.

nobody made fun of the loss of your cat. I questioned the appropriateness of you broadcasting it to the board in order to solicit sympathy from others. You appear to be a sensitive guy.
Knightmoves , you are a real asshole. In your next life I hope you come back as a dog so that you can smell yourself for eternity.

I think the Calhoun aspect of all of this is overlooked (yeah, I know Bill Walsh recommended Terry Shea).

Pikiel won't just be picking his brain, but it almost sounds like Calhoun's going to be involved. They're going to talk again, about picking a staff. I love this coming from a man who took a nothing program with no facilities (Calhoun and I agree: facilities mean very little) and turned them into a national powerhouse.

And hasn't he been making rumblings about getting into coaching? Isn't Calhoun in the background at RU just perfect for us? Anybody object to his fingerprints showing up on this program? I'm not talking about him being an assistant coach, I'm envisioning him showing up for a practice here and there. Being on hand for a recruiting visit at RU. Making himself known as a consultant to the program.

What kind of publicity does the program get now?

From reading the that article, and other related stuff, is this a totally wacky thought?

Just so you know, we lost our 10 year old Boxer last year. Greatest dog I've ever known and an integral part of our family.

Yet somehow I resisted the opportunity to draw attention to myself about it on a message board.

Everyone on this board loses loved ones, family members, friends, acquaintances and pets. Because a guy has 7 zillion posts doesn't make his feelings more important than the rest of us. But that's just my opinion, nothing more.

Do you where that L on your forehead everyday or just when you post on the board

Completely agree! Also Calhoun wouldn't be wasting his time if he didn't believe in Pikiell. I heard Calhoun had big ten offers and was going to bring Pikiell is the coach in waiting after he retired. All good signs. Might be wishful thinking here but If he could get Calhoun to come on as some sort of special advisor role that would be HUGE for recruiting and send a clear message that things are changing at RU

Thanks for the all the kind words guys. Very tough losing Artemis as he was a one of a kind and a constant presence everywhere I would go at my place. He had lost a lot of weight in the last year and I was suspecting a kidney issue in the end. I guess we always prepare for the day in the back of our minds but it doesnt make it any easier when it happens.

Nice attempt at an insult. I would have thought you were better than that. Apparently not.

I will leave you with this bit of worldly advice. If you put more effort into your relationships with human beings then you'll be less dependent on animals to bring happiness into your life.

That's it for me in this thread.

I like cats, and I like coaches who can recruit. That is the beginning and the end for me with this hire. If Coach P can recruit, he will have success. If not. . . .

dude - just let it go man. usually when 40+ people suggest you MIGHT have done something insensitive, you might want to step back and perhaps consider that what you might have thought was benign, was actually...well insensitive.

bac - sorry to hear about your cat.

and KM - sorry to hear about your boxer. I am more of a dog guy myself...

Know it's tough bac, 14 years brings a strong relation with your pet and I'm sure you felt Artemis was family more than you thought pet.
That what makes the passing hard for anyone that cares .
Most of us know how you're feeling and sympathize with you and consider Artemis' passing a loss for you and not something that you just grin and bare it easily.

We have an 18 year old kitty and she looks 10 years younger .As a pooch guy I never liked them but I have fallen hard for this one. I know how you feel. As for Rutgers I agree with all your say but at this point care more about the cat. Too much bad hoops under the bridge.

First off, it's a public message board, he can post whatever he'd like, as can you. Secondly he was simply giving an explanation, as to WHY he hadn't been heard from on the topic up until now, when he is arguably the most outspoken person on this particular board. Third, BAC actually has friends on these boards, friends who might care about something personal that has him upset as such.

Food for thought.

Well put.....but amazing that you had to explain that to someone.
